Former Monorail pilot at WDW - the trains there use the Thales train automation system. Pilots can either use the Semi automatic Train Operation (STO) or the more manual ATPM (sorry, my memory fails me on the acronym - something like "automatic train protection mode" basically the pilot is driving but there are safeguards active on train spacing) Great history here, if you look uppictures on the last Vegas Monorail shop it basically looks like the setup in the WDW Monorail shop today. Thanks for all your wonderful videos! And thanks for all the memories you gave me when I worked there. I'm sure you don't remember me out of the thousands of people you've encountered on your journies but I've had the pleasure of welcoming you, ally, and London onto the trains a few times and it always made my day!
I watched the TI and Mirage shows as a kid. That’s when the strip was more family friendly and I really enjoyed being down there. I also rode the monorail back then too! It went from a couple hotels, the Excalibur to something else. The Luxor had a river ride! Hard to believe.
Super Fun Video!!!! Just turned 57 years old... And... Happy belated New Year!!! It's been a great almost 11 years of your great content...from wacky to cerebral...and everything in between!!!! I love you man!
Justin, you sell the Las Vegas High Roller Wheel so short (I guess due to your fear of height); but it has a STRONG Disney connection. A company formed by retired Disney Imagineers designed the ride and oversaw the construction. One of those Imagineers (with over 30 years) became the first General Manager of the High Roller. He installed many attractions around the world for Disney Parks. I worked for him for eight years. If you go into the ride you can see glimpses of Tomorrowland/Space Mountain influences through out the pre-show line.
We were just there on the 31st of December and we caught breakfast before our flight at a McDonald’s where we had a views of the monorail - pointed it out to my kids and everything, and then boom you post this video! Vibing! Perfect timing!
Justin, I want to tell you this is the first time in over 3 years that I’ve watched a video that was this long. I usually will watch a video that’s maybe 15 minutes, great job!
How interesting is the Monorail in Vegas. Don't know why i'm surprised, they do like to reproduce the iconic stuff from around the world. I love your travel vlogs.Always have.
Not-so-fun fact: In the 1980s, the Horseshoe (formerly Bally's, formerly MGM) was the site of one of the worst fires in U.S. history, where 85 people died. The MGM was then rebuilt, and in 1986, Bally Manufacturing purchased the resort and renamed it Bally's. The new MGM Grand was then built at its current site. Thanks for the up-to-date info on the monorail, Justin! I remember when the WDW versions were purchased, but hadn't kept up with the revisions!
I have been going to Vegas for over 30 years, and I have never ridden the monorail. I might have to try it! You're absolutely correct about the distances between the casinos. On a hot summer day, temperatures can reach 110 to 115 degrees! You don't want to walk the length of the Strip in that heat! Great video!
I recall standing in the 114 ° heat watching Battle of Buccaneer Bay in the summer of 1999. Such a fun show but my cheap plastic flip flops melted in the Vegas heat. It did however kick start my interest in Pirate movies when a certain Disney film came out a few years later 😜
Despite living in Southern California my whole life, and going to Disneyland as a kid, I think my first monorail ride ever was actually in Las Vegas. I don't think I ever rode the Disneyland Monorail until I was an adult. I think that's because my parents and my friends never really saw it as an attraction. They always saw it as transportation. Since we never had any reason to go to DTD, there was no reason to take the monorail. Weird, huh?
Rode the Monorail a few times on my 1st couple vacations in LV. The problem with it is that it's stationed all the way in the back of the casinos. It's a long walk just to get to it. I guess they couldn't figure a way to run it down the center of the strip. After my 1st couple trips I always got a rental car to get around off strip, Downtown, out to Red Rock, out to the Wild West down to South Point and the M Resort. I had no problem driving all over LV to the Off Strip places.
I thoroughly enjoyed this! During my first Vegas trip in 1999 my TOP priority was to ride the old Mark IV monorails from Disney. To this day the maintenance shed for the 2 Mark IV monorails is still there near the Horseshoe (Bally’s) with the 2 beams cut off!
The original roundhouse for Coral and Lime is still sitting there behind Horseshoe. I remember Mouseplanet having photos of both trains sitting out in the desert. The Bally’s monorail had a lot more graffiti. Stopped in Vegas for a night in October when a friend and I made a trip to St George and Mesquite. The down escalator at the Sahara station was broken then, too, as well as the elevator. Had to make our way down the stairs in the dark Fun fact: the Welcome to Las Vegas sign does not have a copyright. You would be able to make a Welcome to Randomland sign like that if you wanted
So it’s sounding like last time you were here in Seattle you didn’t ride the Monorail from Seattle Center to Downtown Seattle? So much history there. Looking forward to your upcoming video after your next trip through Seattle ❤❤❤❤ love love love your videos!!!
Never ridden the Seattle monorail? It’s a really cool one. I usually park downtown and ride the monorail to the Spaceneedle and the Sci-Fi museum. The monorail even goes right through the middle of the building the Sci-Fi museum is in.
las vegas locals pay $1 for one-way tickets FYI! Also, Welcome to Las Vegas where the escalators are always broken and the traffic cone is the state flower.
The 9-10,000 taxi drivers wouldn't allow it to run down the Strip, and it wouldn't allow it to continue on from the MGM to the Airport. They OK'd it providing it was hidden.
I found the former Bally’s/Lime Green monorail 1984 in nearby Sandy Valley in 2021 as a front yard decoration at someone’s house. I sent Adam the Woo out there a few months later and he literally missed it by one day; as the family just sold it. It was moved to California, and I found it in the City of Santa Fe Springs 2 months ago in the parking lot of a metal fabrication shop. I’ve made a video about it recently. Feel free to check it out.
THEEERRREE GOOOOEEESS THEEE MOOONOORAAAIIILLL VIDEEEEOOOOOOO...i'm surre those glass windows over that bridge wasn't for no spitting your gum, but for something more dreadful, more like ANTI- self deletion partitions....WWweeEEIIIiirRRD!!
Gee, Justin…all you been talking about is the monorail …oh, wait….never mind! My wife and I went on the first system, between the two casinos, then years later, the entire ride. We did what you did…stop at every stop and spend a little at each casino. Bro, that’s a lot of walking between the stop and the casino! I didn’t know that they were actual monorail, monorails….from WDW…..awesome. Thank you sir!
Addendum! About halfway through, you can see the sign for Battista's Hole in the Wall (Italian restaurant, by the Horseshoe), then you basically right pass over it ... they're the BEST - highly recommended (many celeb photos on the wall - it's been there for years).
The monorail is fun to ride and I've attempted to use it exclusively to get up and down the Strip, but for me the walk just to get back there is so long and winding that I'd rather just walk up and down the Strip. I think it's useful if you're for instance staying at back of MGM Grand and your room is closer to the station, and you maybe want to get to the Caesar's Palace area. But if they actually continue to extend this to the airport that would be an absolute game changer and totally worth it. I'm super excited just thinking about that.
Hope you’re all doing well coming into the new year, I saw Ally is still having treatment from her operations from a few years ago, it must be so hard to see the one you love most struggle, I hope you both an incredible year, you both deserve one, take care! Looking forward to the vlogs this year!
I agree slot machines aren't as fun as arcade machines (although the new machines are more like arcade games than traditional slot machines, and take your money faster)
For many years in a row I rode in the front of a monorail because all you had to do was ask and it was way better although it was extremely hot on summer days then riding in the back.
Granted it’s been years since I’ve been to Vegas like late 80’s early 90’s. I have friends that moved there and this is the first time I’ve head there was a monorail in Vegas and it’s been there since 95. lol
I'm going to Anaheim in July to watch the Angles play the Colorado Rockies. I have other things planned as well. I am going to explore the orange circle and try to find your booth. I hope I run into you I'd love to get s sick pick with you!
Never, ever going to happen! The 9-10,000 taxi drivers in Sinless City call the shots! They wouldn't even allow the Monorail to go from the MGM to the Airport or to Allegiant Stadium.
The original maintenance garage before the expansion is still behind Ballys with the tracks cut off. I always thought maybe this monorail was still in there but this sure answers that question 😃
I met monorail society president Kim Peterson as we were both staying at what was then the Las Vegas Hilton, now Westgate! Miss the old Star Trek adventures that used to be inside
I remember there was a crow time in the South County. Specifically Saddleback College. This was mid-late 90’s early 2000’s. They would fill the parking lots. Haven’t been there in about 20 years so I’m not sure if they still congregate there.
I remember riding the original shuttle in the 90's when they first opened. It was a pretty big deal to have a free airconditioned ride as far as Ballys instead of trekking in the heat by foot to get up to that area until they started charging.
The 9-10,000 taxi drivers wouldn't allow the Monorail to continue on from the MGM to the Airport, nor to the new Allegiant Stadium. They call the shots in Sinless City.
I think you’re right about the “out of sight, out of mind” thing. I rode it in the past and enjoyed seeing Vegas in that way, but on a recent trip I assumed it was gone because I didn’t see anything referencing it. Oops 😅.
There was a different Treasure Island show, later, in which scantily clad women portrayed sirens trying to tempt the pirates. I got to see both versions of it back then.
Great Video ! The Monorail must extend to the Airport, the Brightline Station and the new Sports Stadium ! You can go from downtown Chicago to O'Hare Airport or to Midway Airport on rail ! tjl P.S. Road the Monorail when at the Seattle Space Needle...

Nobody does better research on these videos.Learned more than i ever knew on the monorail and I live here.Well done!
It’s cool that you actually travel out to Las Vegas to make a video about how the monorail originally came from Disney, you are definitely committed!
I watched the TI and Mirage shows as a kid. That’s when the strip was more family friendly and I really enjoyed being down there. I also rode the monorail back then too! It went from a couple hotels, the Excalibur to something else. The Luxor had a river ride! Hard to believe.
As your buddy Adam the Woo would say... There goes.....the Monorailllll!
Super Fun Video!!!! Just turned 57 years old... And... Happy belated New Year!!! It's been a great almost 11 years of your great content...from wacky to cerebral...and everything in between!!!! I love you man!

oh wow that is awesome! If I ever go to Vegas I'll have to check that out for the Disney connection alone!
Walt loved trains...I do too
Great video Justin
There gooooes the Monoraaaaail" 😂
Seattle still owns 2 of the original monorails
We were just there on the 31st of December and we caught breakfast before our flight at a McDonald’s where we had a views of the monorail - pointed it out to my kids and everything, and then boom you post this video! Vibing! Perfect timing!
Sacramento California has the first Disneyland monorail
I'm not a gambler but this sure makes me miss Vegas
Justin, I want to tell you this is the first time in over 3 years that I’ve watched a video that was this long. I usually will watch a video that’s maybe 15 minutes, great job!
Thanks for sharing all this new info Didn’t know about a monorail in Las Vegas, ❤️

Best video on the LV Monorail I have ever seen! Outstanding! "Nine thumbs up!". Thanks Justin!!
I took my best friend in 2005 for her 21st birthday, and we rode the monorail. I haven't been back to Vegas since, unfortunately.
I rode the monorail there this weekend! How funny!

Rode on that monorail at Las Vegas before! In fact, I've been to Las Vegas 5 times way back!🎰 Jumping Arrhinoceratops!🎰
This was a fun adventure! Thank you for all the work you put into it and for making fun videos.
Excellent video! I've always been interested in the Las Vegas monorail...thanks for doing this, Justin!!
And why doesn't it go to the Airport, ever wonder? 9-10,000 taxi drivers have a say in that!

Seattle has a monorail
So it’s sounding like last time you were here in Seattle you didn’t ride the Monorail from Seattle Center to Downtown Seattle? So much history there. Looking forward to your upcoming video after your next trip through Seattle ❤❤❤❤ love love love your videos!!!
Seattle has an amazing Alweg Monorail still in use with the same 1960s train vehicles
Thank you for all the info on all the monorails. We enjoy learning about different things.
Thank you. Really enjoyed this video

Absolutely love the travel videos! Reminds me of the route 66 trips 🤙
las vegas locals pay $1 for one-way tickets FYI! Also, Welcome to Las Vegas where the escalators are always broken and the traffic cone is the state flower.
And the last big city in the country to have no light rail system
I remember in 1995 walking thru Bally's to get to the Monorail... my very first time to Vegas, back when Vegas was awesome!!! Thank you for sharing! 😎
I had no idea that monorail existed, and it is impressive how close to the strip it is and you can't even see it.
The 9-10,000 taxi drivers wouldn't allow it to run down the Strip, and it wouldn't allow it to continue on from the MGM to the Airport. They OK'd it providing it was hidden.
That was RAD! Awesome stuff Justin. Now ssshhhleep well.
Pretty sure that preview center was at one point apart of Star Trek the Experience. I can tell by the doors at 35:12
I found the former Bally’s/Lime Green monorail 1984 in nearby Sandy Valley in 2021 as a front yard decoration at someone’s house. I sent Adam the Woo out there a few months later and he literally missed it by one day; as the family just sold it.

love your videos huge fan
I rode the Vegas monorail 20+ years ago 😊
I went when it was still really new. I was probably 2 or 3 and remembered being scared of it. I've never used since as I am a local 😅
Justin, if you’re ever in Colorado, I highly recommend going to Fort Collins and doing a main street video and visiting totally 80s pizza 80s museum!

Loved this video. I used to work for the Las Vegas Monorail. Thank you for bringing back good memories.
Addendum! About halfway through, you can see the sign for Battista's Hole in the Wall (Italian restaurant, by the Horseshoe), then you basically right pass over it ... they're the BEST - highly recommended (many celeb photos on the wall - it's been there for years).
Disney Legend Tommy Kirk was living here when he passed in 2021.
Nice! Fantastic history
You find some very fascinating facts and information.
My grandpa is still here 👩🏻🇱🇷🌎🌌💯🇱🇷😎🥰 Justin 🌎🙏
Hey Justin good vlog and thank you and keep up the good you do love jarl
You really need to get to the 80s restaurant there in las Vegas while you are there. It’s called back to the 80s Cafe and more
I am sure the security cam footage and audio when you sang in the solo car....They must have Loved it!!! So fun!!!!!!!
Video was amazing!!

It would be fun to turn a decommissioned monorail car into a home office.
Loved the adventure!

There are times when you’re talking and get excited that your voice goes full Roger Rabbit LOL
I'm going to Anaheim in July to watch the Angles play the Colorado Rockies. I have other things planned as well. I am going to explore the orange circle and try to find your booth. I hope I run into you I'd love to get s sick pick with you!
I hope that the system will be expanded to both sides of the strip and down to the Brightline Highspeed train, as well as the sport arenas.
Never, ever going to happen! The 9-10,000 taxi drivers in Sinless City call the shots! They wouldn't even allow the Monorail to go from the MGM to the Airport or to Allegiant Stadium.

So fun!
I hope the Vegas monorail doesn't rattle the way the WDW monorail did, the last time I rode it.
I met monorail society president Kim Peterson as we were both staying at what was then the Las Vegas Hilton, now Westgate! Miss the old Star Trek adventures that used to be inside
I rode the original monorail when it was first built. Back then, it was free.
I swear you need a PBS show. RUclips just is not enough lol. Love your vlog.
Hi long time happy 2024 was busy why I missed some of your videos Justin
I remember there was a crow time in the South County. Specifically Saddleback College. This was mid-late 90’s early 2000’s. They would fill the parking lots. Haven’t been there in about 20 years so I’m not sure if they still congregate there.
I didn't know it (the Monorail) was so extensive. Looks like the way to go.
I remember riding the original shuttle in the 90's when they first opened. It was a pretty big deal to have a free airconditioned ride as far as Ballys instead of trekking in the heat by foot to get up to that area until they started charging.
In 1985 they charged a transportation fee to ride the Monorail at WDW.
Yes it would be great to extend the monorail north and south
The 9-10,000 taxi drivers wouldn't allow the Monorail to continue on from the MGM to the Airport, nor to the new Allegiant Stadium. They call the shots in Sinless City.
Finally my friend, hopeu go more often las vegas, beautiful city, its the Disneyland for adults 😂
some neat remnants of the star trek experience at the westgate too
How many Allies long is that monorail track?
Another Disney connection is that the treasure island pirate show was a Kenny Ortega (high school musical) production
Super love it!
Don't forget about the monorail on the other side of the strip
Barry Manilow is on my bucket list 😆
good afternoon, justin. 👋🙂
I’ve stayed at the Stratosphere many years ago…
It’s terrifying up at the top 😳😵💫😬
I think you’re right about the “out of sight, out of mind” thing. I rode it in the past and enjoyed seeing Vegas in that way, but on a recent trip I assumed it was gone because I didn’t see anything referencing it. Oops 😅.
There was a different Treasure Island show, later, in which scantily clad women portrayed sirens trying to tempt the pirates.
I got to see both versions of it back then.
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Barry Manilow puts on a great show - seeiously!
So cool
I believe those WDW monorail cars are sitting in some guys front yard in the desert near Death Valley. I seen them in another video.
Great video. Adam was there in spirit. You guys rock on the collaboration videos
Great Video ! The Monorail must extend to the Airport, the Brightline Station and the new Sports Stadium ! You can go from downtown Chicago to O'Hare Airport or to Midway Airport on rail ! tjl P.S. Road the Monorail when at the Seattle Space Needle...
