The industry shifted from a business model where they make good games for profit, to one where they use psychological manipulation techniques to trick the consumer into financially and emotionally buying into the game regardless of quality. That's why they hired all these psychologists, invest hundreds of millions into marketing, and create the facade of "community engagement and transparency", over the past decade or so. If you can get consumers to buy into something that is average, bad or doesn't even exist, you completely eliminate risk of loss altogether. That's why despite preorders being obsolete and completely unnecessary in 2024, companies push preordering in your face - as they can make a profit before a product is even released. Gamers are arguably the most scammed group of customers in consumer history, even insurance companies don't take the liberties with their customers that game devs do, and it's partly because there's no ISO standards, legislation or anything enforcing humane treatment on gamers' behalf. So companies just rob gamers blind.
Y'all still bought it and complained it has issues. That's why I didn't buy it. The industry has been like this for a decade, everything's either rushed or borderline unplayable. Continuing to spend vast amounts of money, especially on preorders and deluxe editions, and then being somehow surprised that it wasn't what you expected, it's kind of self-inflicted at this point. I miss the days of buying a game on release and having minimal to no issues with it. Especially back in the day of the Xbox and PS2, you didn't have day one patches. You HAD to have a great game on release, because if you had anything game breaking, then you basically just printed hundreds of thousands of useless discs. And even "indie developers" and "small studios" excuses can only go so far, too. No thanks, I'll stick to the original Horizon 1 and 2 and TDU 1 and 2, and definitely The Crew 1 when that becomes playable again. I have no interest in anything that came out after that era. I'm fine with "missing out", because I know all of my older games continuously give me a rich, fulfilling, and polished experience through and through. I don't need the latest and greatest to experience that.
@@pinko-fish Good thing I have enough old games to last me my whole life, then. And it's not that I dislike AAA games. I really don't. I WANT AAA games, but back then AAA used to mean something. People for example want Burnout to come back. I do too, but if Burnout officially came back, I wouldn't want it to be revived as a cash grab, or full of microtransactions, or full of battle passes and FOMO. Burnout was NEVER about that, and it never should be. People like old games not because of nostalgia, but because back then people actually cared about the craft. Now it's just money money and more money. As Anton Hand, developer of H3VR said, if you're trying to figure out what will make you the most money, and you're a video game developer, you've already failed. Careers like these need genuine creativity involved, not shareholders. And hell, you don't even need a big budget to do it. If you're concerned about what makes the most money, then go write some banking software or something, stay away from something like game development that requires you to have a passion for the craft and be determined to provide end users with the best experience you can possibly give them.
This is my opinion too, games this days feel very soul less. I love older games especially when it comes to racing, I want a story mode game which gets a couple dlc and is offline to play too with an option to play multiplayer if I’ve got friends on it.

Yeah, I don't want a vague "thinking-about-it" kind of statement, I want a legally-enforceable guarantee that Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown won't end up like The Crew.
@@AH-lw2bjHonestly the voices being from women have nothing to do with anything, speaking as we have Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa. It’s more of the fact these “assistants” in the games talk too much and are annoying.
Let’s be honest, the PS5 hardware IS NOT the reason the game is not 60FPS. Other games are already doing it. The lack of performance is on the developer, not the hardware 😅. I appreciate the honest recommendation to wait on this game.
Can't even run the game smoothly on mid-range PCs. The engine of this game can't handle anything on this scale, which means they should have ditched their "in-house engine" for something that can actually be optimized for lower-end PCs.
I don't like that the number plates in this game all say Solar Crown because if they didn't care about obvious details like that then they clearly didn't care about any others
So I would usually agree if this was another game, but the other TDU games always had that TDU version as the plate, so I don’t know if that was necessarily an oversight in this case.
@ConnorGibbsAK Oh right I didn't play the other ones I just don't like the game constantly reminding me that I'm playing a game with the title everywhere
The car graphics are like NFS 2, the gameplay is also NFS 2, and the character graphics look like Mario. Is this what I’ve been waiting for 3 years for and pre-ordered with such excitement
Bro there has literally been a demo and betas you can play and see footage of, and the game did not look any better in those than at release, yet you still pre-order? If you don't want this to happen stop pre-ordering games.. And about graphics, they are the least of this game's issues. The graphics rival Forza Horizon 5 in terms of level of detail and lighting in my opinion, at least on PC (idk about PS5), but of course it's subjective. What comes to character models, are they any better than FH5?
Do you mean Need for Speed: Payback, the sequel to the (unneeded) reboot, from 2017 or do you mean the actual Need for Speed 2 from, like, 1997? Saying the graphics look like Need for Speed: Payback is fair, I guess (never played that one), but, if you're claiming that the graphics in Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown look like an almost three decade old game, that's just a tiny little bit of hyperbole.

PD may have made GT7 online only but at least I’ve never had trouble getting onto that game and I’ve had it since launch. Online only sucks, but it sucks way worse when they don’t have the servers to back it up.
I'm glad I don't get hyped for games anymore, people get so excited just because it's a returning IP. Sorry guys, looks like this is dead on arrival, I hope that don't lie through their teeth and actually update and fix the game but that's only ever happened once in the gaming industry.
Not sure why everyone is so surprised about this, this was evident in the first initial ‘gameplay’ previews we seen of this game. Game graphically looked like its a ps3 / ps4 early game. All these issues and bugs don’t surprise me at all that it looks so unfinished and rushed as end piece. Car reflections, the visual look of the game character graphic and customisation, lack of traffic (ghost town) and engagement, no soul or life. Lack of number plate customisation pretty much tells you everything here lol. Also why the needle for rev counter is juddering so much at times - this is just few things I’ve noticed so far from this video lol
Can't blame PS5 for no 60fps, blame really poor optimisation, there are far more demanding games like Spiderman 2 and Horizon Forbidden West that don't just hit 60, they push past it with zero frame drops. It's possible to get a lot out of this console with very little sacrifices.
So if the blame lies in the developers for poorly optimizing their games, the question left is, WHY THE HELL are Sony making a PS5 Pro? Don't get me started on the waste of a console THAT will be. Do Sony suddenly think that games that are poorly optimized from the beginning will magically suddenly run at 60fps on the PS5 Pro? And it won't be every single game anyway. It's on a case by case basis.
Tbh I would rather to play the TDU 2 with the World mod, which adds new cars, changes the physics and basically modernizes the game, Theo you should play it and compare both of them.
Theo wearing the "always online bad" shirt in the video about TDU:SC's launch 😔👌 edit: the note about making the shirt while he was waiting to access the servers is icing on the cake lol
I’ll be sticking to CarX Street, this is a mess as you’ve said Theo, the fact they gaslighted you in regards to the code speaks volumes, even they know they overhyped this like hell 😂 physics look janky as fuck almost like Need For Speed The Run in some areas which is worrying, the graphical quality is dubious at best as the reflections don’t seem that great and frame rate and shadow quality is below mediocre, that being said the sounds are good I will give them that, and the map itself looks amazing and enjoyable, but there’s a lot more negatives than positives and i personally believe it’s been way over anticipated and suffered the same fate as the WRC games that the devs previously released
As a Hong Kong resident, I’m delighted to see Hong Kong’s map featured in a racing game, closely based on the real world. However, the graphics don’t seem to match console or PC quality. It is at most on par with mobile games.. I’m not very optimistic about whether the current performance can support the connections when it’s officially launched. Regarding the game details, they’re good but could be improved. For instance, while it displays Chinese text, it uses simplified Chinese characters rather than traditional ones. It’s a bit like seeing British English words in a U.S. context, but interestingly, some textures use traditional Chinese characters. I’ve noticed bus stops, but oddly, no buses appear-quite different from what we see in games like Sleeping Dogs.
I noticed yesterday that you can stay logged into the game while idle indefinitely. It does not kick you out for remaining idle so if they implement an algorithm to log out players that are idle for long periods, server access may be better.
I know I can't say much since I haven't played this game myself but im gonna be honest here...the game never looked good to me and still doesn't thats just me. The characters look so emotionless and look like robots and stiff, cars look nice though just the graphics for some reason look strange even though they seem good. Again I haven't played the game and it just came out so I feel like judging the game is a little crazy its just that its been so long since the last game and this what we get after so long yknow🤷
This made me re-evaulate CarX, it already looks mediocre but this is much, MUCH worse, even with more budget, years of development and a decently big studio behind it, it's just crazy.

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
you can only play those old games for so long before you get bored...

They just need better optimization for both PC and consoles, that's the first thing they should fix! 30~50fps is unacceptable in 2024...
I think it’s less of optimization and more of the server based bs. Their servers are absolute shit.
I wonder when we'll actually get next gen gaming.

Exactly. Just like the original TDU games. Hopefully they will take Ubishit's lead (can't believe I'm saying this), and put an offline patch into TDUSC like Ubishit will be doing with The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest.

The graphics look like one of those parking simulators on mobile😭😭

I just wish it wasn't full online pvp. I love the game so far, though.
It literally looks like the crew 2 but at 30fps
Crew 2 was a lot of fun at least… this game looks so boring.
And at least The Crew 2 will be getting an offline patch. Same with Motorfest.

The Only Thing They Need To Change Is The ALWAYS ONLINE Feature. Its Never An Hard Thing Developer?
Cars look like they are out of a mobile game
Plastic electronic toy cars are the ones.
I noticed yesterday that you can stay logged into the game while idle indefinitely. It does not kick you out for remaining idle so if they implement an algorithm to log out players that are idle for long periods, server access may be better.
Always online is a massive red flag... gonna wait for this one to come to ps+ instead of wasting money on it
Love your t-shirt, Theo. Nothing but the truth.
I know I can't say much since I haven't played this game myself but im gonna be honest here...the game never looked good to me and still doesn't thats just me.
