I think I know what you're talking about and I know how you feel, RGE. At my previous job at a grocery store, often whenever I was in the middle of something that the supervisor asked me to do, that same supervisor would tell me to drop that task and do something else that they wanted me to do. Come on, at least have the common courtesy to give me a list if you want me to do multiple tasks. It may not be exactly the same, but the feeling is there.
I mean, in that example, the prototype was supposed to be done the next morning. Couldn't the boss and CEO have told that customer (politely) "We're sorry. Our IT department is currently working on another project that's due tomorrow. Will it be alright if you wait until then?" What difference was one day? If the customer was willing to wait, then his or her patience would have been rewarded. But if that customer has a Veruca Salt "I want it now!" mentality, then a person like that is proof that the customer is not always right.
I actually just quit my job today because that problem you stated there was only one of *_very many_* issues I was having with my new manager (which I'm hoping she'll get fired for me quitting because from what I heard, she was moved to that position because she dun fucked up royally as a warehouse manager and was on thin ice with literally every employee who worked under her writing essays on why she was a terrible manager during the last employer evaluation by the employees). It was not uncommon for me to be literally 3+ projects deep with her *_still_* telling me to go do something else. And this was on top of my other day to day things I needed to get done that I never had time to because the store manager decided that running a retail store with about half of a skeleton crew was smart. (basically, we were all worked to the bone because management refused to hire new people, *_and at the same time cut everyone's hours_* so that we were always playing catch up doing literally 2-4 people's worth of jobs in a 3-5 hour time span).
It was an absolute shitshow. The only saving grace was that the coworkers were actually cool and fun to work with. It was made even worse because I was working in areas that were waaaay above my pay grade, and still getting paid the company minimum wage. No PTO, no benefits whatsoever, not even guaranteed hours because as an intermittent employee, they could legally assign me literally 0 hours to work a week, but still be on the payroll of the job. Because fuck the employees and trying to build up any sort of loyalty from them: *_just exploit and use them until they quit and then replace them!_* Because humans are disposable resources!
At the very least, I already had a few job options lined up, so I was literally in the waiting phase to see if that manager was going to fuck around, and then find out. And when I mentioned that I was ready to quit because of her bullshit, she literally told me with a straight face that she would have no problems handing me my resignation right now because as the little dictator she was, she literally told me she hated defiant workers, which is the reason why shey's a single 50something miserable cunt that literally no one liked. *shrug* If a manager isn't going to value a hard worker who actually has great work ethics (and all my previous coworkers could attest to that, believe that!) by trying to figure out why someone wants to quit and just instead replies "well then, just quit", then I have no qualms about moving on. There was literally no room for growth in that company anyway, as there were people stuck in the same positions for 20+ years, which told me that the company cared fuck all for anyone outside of HQ and the little clique that they developed for this region.
God damn am I glad that I'm finished with that shit. I knew that job was already affecting me because I had literally _no motivation whatsoever_ as soon as I got off work, not even to play games. My brain just wanted to shut down and hole up in my room and be away from people in general. It fucking sucks being an introvert because basically all jobs require human interaction of some sort, and I just hate it. At least I have soft skills, but god damn is it physically draining.
@@JaegerYukari In my case, it wasn't that the supervisor was a terrible one. I had a feeling that some of my coworkers were avoiding their duties on purpose. Because I was more dependable, I was left "holding the baggage". There were some that were willing to help me, but a majority of them were lazy and didn't take their jobs seriously. Often times they wouldn't work at the store for long anyway and would quit at a moment's notice, which makes me wonder they even got the job in the first place.
Anyway, I wish you the best of luck at your new job. I bet it'll be a million times better than the job you just left.
