Love This Keep Them Coming Modal
After Moog One, Modal Argon8 is my next buy. This synth is amazing...
You got me Modal! I was just about to purchase a Minilogue XD. Now I'm going to wait to see the final version of the Argon8.
They both have their place. I have an XD and I wouldn’t sell it for this, because it offers things the Argon8 doesn’t. I’m gonna have to go with both myself.
@@HotStrange you have deeper pockets than me. Kudos to you.
i truly hope they do not take away from the raw finish too much, it looks good
OGASI Only bad thing is the lettering is hard to see against the finish.
@@smoothoscillator1 Make the text black and bolder.
Wish they were branding “Modal” on the back vs. Argon8.
@@swancakes it has both?
Having just demo'd both the Argon8 and the ASM Hydrasynth at Knobcon this past weekend, sound wise, I'm more impressed with the Argon8. To my ears I heard some nice rich harmonics in the patches and some really nice bottom end: I turned off all the fx just so i could hear osc's and filter. Glad I held off dropping a chunk of dosh on a 002.
The hydrasynth also has amazing bottom end but not quite the same richness/harmonics from my brief time with it.
Of course these are early/quick assessments. Will be interesting to follow each synths development.
The 002 has elements that the Argon doesn’t have - analog VCFs and VCAs and an analog overdrive to die for, at the very least. I wouldn’t pay for a new one, but the used prices are decent. That said the Argon8 is very intriguing, especially at this price point.
Modal has had more time to really perfect their sound engine. I agree, the Argon8 seems to sound much more organic and also seems to have a character to its sound, which is something the Hydra lacks in just a bit, IMO. Both are amazing and I can see the argument for either one, but personally, I think I’m gonna go with the Modal as well.
F*ck me! This is awesome!...Got to have it! 8 voice, full size keys, aftertouch, £579!...Minilogue who????
Awesome! JACK: Put up the sounds video👊
Jackson, you had me at a real-time quantized sequencer.
10:07
yep , he can't comprehend it ...( gazes into the void)
Cheers for the overview, looking forward to the other vid on it :) Boomshanka
I’ll take mine in pearlescent purple/green ty
Sounds amazing will be getting this.
To me the Argon8 sounds more organic than the Hydrasynth and seems to have a bit more character of its own. Granted, this isn’t Modals first outing, like it is for ASM, but in the end I think I’m going to end up buying the Argon8. Especially knowing more filter types will be added. That was my main draw to the Hydra. It’s still a tough choice. Both are great and I could see myself owning them both one day, but going purely based on sound, I prefer the Modal.
That is one awesome synth!
Well it's a must have. Could have done with i fullsize audio in though ... not that I ever use my audio ins :)
That’s my only complaint. Would’ve loved a full size audio in as I use it a lot to process drum machines, vocals, guitar, etc. Definitely still getting it, though.
Sounds AMAZING! Love it love it love it!
Anyone else think it would look good in a sky blue?
That would look awesome
Was my exact thought. Similar to the SH-101.
It would look better in a dumpster. This synth is certified trash!
Can it do bass?
Very cool piece of hardware.
that little sequence at the end. yeah
I’ll take one! For sure!
Modal has a sound that's just different.
More sounds please
One request, make the headphone out 3.5 and make the audio in full size instead if possible.
The Drift ist Awesome :)
May be the stick could be a little shorter? I see it protuding over the knobs and it could be damaged when puting the synth in a gigbag.
This!
That would have to be a huge gig bag to fit this. And I really hope they don’t take this advice. The joystick already looks short enough. Any shorter and it wouldn’t be nearly as playable, which would suck seeing as it’s a tool for performance.
@@HotStrange Huge? Why? this synth is smaller than the Ultranova, the perfect size for gigging (even for carry on luggage). Im just worried with a mobile part protuding over the rest of the synth, but of course playability goes first, and Im sure Modal will make the best choice.
the filter sounds like if you ran a digital "acb" technology synth from roland through an elektron heat,.
Is this the affordable 002?
Not exactly. It’s 100% digital.
93% talk 7% demo.. wow
SVEEP THA FILTAAA!
Link to sound demo, or isn’t it made yet ?
So much for saving money
At this point Jack is basically a commentator for my bank transactions…
7:48 - oooh, jaakkkk
I might just sample that
I love the sound of the Skulpt (I think that the Argon sounds similiar) BUT the hardware of the Skulpt is real horror ! Please better hardware on the Argon ,-) THX
Obviously the hardware is better on the Argon8.
Interesting synth and interesting that people wear hats indoors.
I was getting a lot of comments on how bad my hair was so I popped a hat on, seems to have worked in that respect but I do agree it isn't in line with reasonable etiquette. Apologies Sir X
How’s that interesting?
Always wear a hat indoors..weirdo.
I'm noticing a strong expansion for hardware and digital synthesizers, I'm so confused that I always want to rely on experienced and kind people like you: I'm seeing these synthesizers, which ones do you think are excellent in sound quality and creation? my musical genre is trance, I saw that I am also FM.
1)BEHRINGER DeepMind 12D
2)MODAL ELECTRONICS Argon8
3)ASM Hydrasynth
4) ROLAND Jupiter-Xm (its much higher price)
I like your opinion, please. thanks
If you want trance the buy a Roland JP8000 off ebay, it can be heard on countless trance records and the instrument which arguably defined the sound of the genre more than any other. If you can afford you could get an Access Virus TI I would say that would be the most prevalent synth in the late 2000s - plus you able to plug the virus ti into your computer and use it like a soft synth.
@@spaceranger145 I have heard and read that the synthesizer access virus also has 2 problems with the supplied software, they have bu and do not work with PCs. yes, I saw on ebay synthesizers that made the trance story but I want the FUTURE.
@@gexcube1981 If you don't want to work with pcs how are you going to arrange your music? There are a wide variety of sequencers and grooveboxes out - it may be wise to focus on finding a good sequencing solution before looking into hardware synthesizers.
@@spaceranger145 I choose hardware because after so many years I got bored always clicking with the mouse for everything, and I'm looking for better solutions for my work. I use bitwig, ableton live. thousands of vst and presets. want a good buy on synth hardware. not paying huge sums.
You are so much better then Roland .....
have a nice day Gentlemans
So where’s the sounds video??? :)
Hey Marcus, it'll be out in the coming week or so I'm assured, thanks for your patience my man X
Make it mpe compatible and it would definitely kill the korg minilouge
Make this in a desktop/rack format and Im in.
This seems to be a great product, and even better that it is a UK made instrument, but 37 keys!! Really? 49 keys is only just enough but 37 would be a deal breaker I'm afraid. Most of the big manufacturers have 61 as a minimum, for good reason. ASM Hydrasynth is the latest competition, so you need to be better than the rest. I'm looking for a new lead synth, and would love one of your products, but not with 37 keys. Come on guys, make it into a marketable product and it will do well.
Smh just get a different keyboard, 37 is fine
... honestly if you‘re somewhat serious about actual technical playing all onboard synth keyboards are deal breakers.
Get yourself a real good midikeyboard and just be done with it.
You should probably invest in a nice master keyboard then. They’re not gonna redesign the synth to fit your needs. It’s made to be compact, and being compact means a smaller octave keyboard. Any good musician can make it work :)
This synth seems very very desirable and musical. I want one for sure. I can see a mkii of this with some hybrid analogue stuff in there. Maybe another filter or just a drive or basic eq. Just a touch of analogue before it hits the jack plugs hits recording. By all means not a dealbreaker and obviously something you can add to the chain. But i d like a way to have a but if optional analogue color in there. I quess i should get this as well as an analogue heat. But the heat seems pretty pricey all of a sudden
That’s exactly what the other Modal products are. Digital oscillators with analog filters. Personally I love digital/wavetable synths and I’m glad it’s all digital. It gives it that icy character that I love.
@@HotStrange ah ok, i didnt know that, only looked at the craft and skulpt. The other ones are very expensive tho?
it has no weak point.
Sir Cliff it’s weak point is that it’s digital. Your better off wasting that much money on amazing VST plug-ins and midi keyboard. Nothing real special about the Aragon8.
Why does Serum sound better?
It doesn’t. It sounds different. Equally as good but different.
Tooooooo much talking !!!! Its better to talk about that synth than listening to it.
Fy
8:20 Are you guys listening to something else, because all I hear is a bloody racket!
And jibber-jabber !! At least halfway in before one note was played !! A good demo starts with a piece of music to showcase a selection of the sounds available !! Hearing the sounds will sell better than explaining the tech features !!
Hi Tamsin, I agree but it's so hard to combine everything without alot of planning (sadly we never get the notice or time) so we split the videos now on here into talking and non ("less") talking for each product. I make sure I warn people at the beginning, in the future I think I might have to be be clearer and more stern when I issue that warning of "Waffling". Sorry for wasting your time but thanks for giving it a go anyways. Peace X
You must not be a fan of early 90s IDM.
@@jackduxbury1632 I like the jibber-jabber.
Love your reviews, Jack!
Very tiring to watch
Who designed the front face? White on grey? You cannot read anything! Have you check the Hydrasynth, more keys, more features, more wavestable, more effects, better look and an amazing front face with backlid knobs and buttons. How you gona win this war? Oh I forgot, you are more expensive!
The Colour will Change and Hydrasynth is more Expensive
its not the finished colour scheme ......
@@jonfromtheuk467 Good to know!
