Have done this run passing the Doric back in 2009 at the end of the war. There were no paved roads back then. Just dirt tracks...dusty and full of sand. hardly motorable but we were on Honda XR's so that didn't matter much. The military used to maintain some presence within the Dorc those days. I still remember riding hard and fast off the dirt trail towards the Doric and out of the shadows near the tree two fully armed soldiers popped out with their weapons completely taking my by surprise... scaring the day lights out of me as well cos those days, these areas were super remote. Mines were not cleared and there was demarcated areas with that yellow and black tape indicating potential mines. Great to see things are a lot normal since then and the road is clearly motorable. I our entire run through Wilpattu and this stretch, we came across only one SL navy buffel vehicle.
And the Doric was in much much better condition too. Now wind and rain erosion seem to have taken its toll. Sad it's nor looked after. It's in such an amazing location
