THANK YOU, DREW! I cut 2 equal sizes of cardboard, for the sides, so my stair rugs would be centered. 👍 I'm glad you showed where to place the strong, double-sided tape. I'm about to start my project! 👍 Thanks to you... and Yaaay to me for tackling this project. 👍👍👍👍😁
Great job, every other video on this subject is way to much. Your video is easy to listen to, simple and done very well. Keep on producing instructional how to's please.
This was today’s project and watching your video, with its warm communication and helpful tips made a difference. That link to the tape was a big plus as well. Best wishes!
@@laurakatemarshall7330 Hi Laura. I do not. The pads I selected had a fair amount of cushion. I’m not sure you can add cushion without sacrificing their flush fit to the stairs. Passing for stairs is usually done under stairs that have been carpeted.
He said half a day. LOL. I like to put them closer to the bullnose so it's more protective of the higher traffic area. Interested to see how this double sided tape works. Thanks RSB!
Drew, thanks for the great "how-to" video. Did you use "X-fasten Double-stick Woodworking Tape" or X-fasten Double-sided Carpet Tape? The link takes us to the Woodworking tape.
the fall was hilarious. Thank you so much for the information! quick question: Would this be possible to do with carpet that you cut vs the pre-cut/ pre-made carpet tread you had? I have some stairs that aren't a conventional shape so I'm looking into maybe getting some carpet and cutting it myself.
Thanks so much. It should work as long as the underside of the carpet is a material the tape will stick too. Also I would be concerned about the look of the edges on cut carpet as the treads have a sewn edge on them.
Never used a laser. Would have liked to see how that works and how you position it but still loved the video. I bought treads ages ago and still haven’t installed them. Lol
Aaron, thanks so much for watching. The laser was set up on a tripod and used as a reference. I didn’t include it in the video for just that reason. It’s a set it and forget it helper.
Hey Theresa. It is very easy to do. Play the tape as close to the end without it showing on the topside. The tape I used is linked in the description below. Let me know if I can clear up anything else for you. You got this!
I don't have wooden steps but I have carpeted tan steps that look kinda beat and was wondering if these would work. I think they would look nice but may be impractical I hope not cause I want them
Great video. Any recommendations for that 1"in that is not covered? My puppy can't go downstairs because where his paws land it isn't on the carpet but the uncovered space.
You can have less of a gap at the edge. Just make it the same gap throughout. Another option is to install a runner on your stairs instead of carpet treads
You may want to test coming down your stairs. That’s where most of the slip hazards are. I would cheat to the bull nose if it were me. If you walk down and you feel there is adequate tread under your foot, leave it, but if not, adjust and press on. Good luck
@@ReadySetBuildIt I pulled it and replaced it butted against the back wall. After some though, my kids drag their feet and they'll peel it up if I hug the nose to close. HUGE improvement and my aging dog doesn't slip now. Will upgrade to a full runner or at least something that curls over the nose when we improve things, but this was def worth the $50 for pads and tape. Thanks for the tips!!
Very good vid! I just got a set of stair carpets for my older dog (who slid all the way down the stairs last week). :( Was thinking of tacking them down, but I think I will go with the tape now. Thanks!!
Thanks for the great video! I just painted my basement stairs and want to add carpet treads. Since the stairs are painted, do you think the tape is enough?
Hi Carol. I’m glad you got something from it. I think the tape will be plenty. I would only suggest making sure the paint has cured for a week or two before putting the tape down.
@@ReadySetBuildIt we appreciate your humor and having fun while showing us a Tutorial. mean the falling down the stairs demonstration was truly the highlight. Then the whistling. LOL. I’ve watched the beginning five times over. 🤣😃
@@ReadySetBuildIt One regret is not putting the treads at the tip of the stair, when I go down the steps your foot is going off the carpet, which is so annoying. I might have to redo it all.
@@Tonibey1 I’m not sure why you would need to clean them while the carpet treads are down. They are taped to the stairs. That would defeat the purpose of affixing them. I’m glad you figured it out though.
Thank you. great video , You explained a lot of stuff that is just not mentioned in any other video.- also confirmed my fear of "no tape" options

glad i looked at this video; was about to staple treads for the entry to my kids playroom. feel much better w/ tape. thanks.
Absol;utely, And if you don't like the runner at any point, no harm , no foul.
Oh nice I have a stack of those exact same stair treads sitting in a pile waiting for me to find this video. I thank you good sir!
My pleasure. Thanks for watching.
Easy breezy and straight to the point.
Thanks
Also a good idea to check if the pile is directional, and if so, lay it so it’s smooth towards the riser, and rough towards the bullnose.
That’s a great tip. Thank you.
Excellent video and clearly explained and demonstrated. Thank you!
Penny, thanks so much for watching.

But it's probably worth it and not expensive
