Diy Hack: Install Carpet Treads On Hardwood Stairs With No Tools!
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 18 сен 2024
- In this video, i show you how to install Carpet TREADS on hardwood stairs and we'll DIY this in less than Half a day. Without the need of a compressor and nail gun, we managed to lay carpet treads on our stairs. This is an incredibly quick project. One that is both functional and ascetically pleasing. The treads go down with just two strips of double sided carpet tape and leave no residue behind, should you need to pull them up at some point in the future. If you have slippery stairs, I would highly recommend adding carpet treads to your stairs.

Thank you. great video , You explained a lot of stuff that is just not mentioned in any other video.- also confirmed my fear of "no tape" options
Thank you. I appreciate it.
Installed... and in+laws were over yesterday, complimented the "great job" !!
@@Thetasquared that’s awesome! I’m glad it worked out.
THANK YOU, DREW! I cut 2 equal sizes of cardboard, for the sides, so my stair rugs would be centered. 👍 I'm glad you showed where to place the strong, double-sided tape. I'm about to start my project! 👍 Thanks to you... and Yaaay to me for tackling this project. 👍👍👍👍😁
I’m glad to hear. You’ve got this 👍
Great job, every other video on this subject is way to much. Your video is easy to listen to, simple and done very well. Keep on producing instructional how to's please.
Thanks so much Gary. I appreciate you!
Oh nice I have a stack of those exact same stair treads sitting in a pile waiting for me to find this video. I thank you good sir!
My pleasure. Thanks for watching.
Easy breezy and straight to the point.
Thanks
glad i looked at this video; was about to staple treads for the entry to my kids playroom. feel much better w/ tape. thanks.
Absol;utely, And if you don't like the runner at any point, no harm , no foul.
Excellent video and clearly explained and demonstrated. Thank you!
Penny, thanks so much for watching.
Love 💕 this video. I will follow your instructions to a T. Thank you for these valuable instructions.
Thanks. It really is a fun project with instant gratification
opened like 3 videos and your intro kept me here. cheers and thanks.
Thank you very much.
You are a good son. Thanks for the video. I have been wanting to do this for awhile.
Thank you and thanks for watching.
Thanks so much for this video! We are moving into an apt/townhouse with wooden stairs going up and I was worried about falls! This info helps!!
Angelique I’m happy the video has brought some value to you.
Awesome thanks for sharing! I like how you do not have to destroy the wood stairs!
Thanks John. It’s pretty much the only way to add grip without doing something permanent.
Great video! Not too much talking, (like so many "how to" videos) just instructing!
Thanks Carolyn
Just the video I was looking for, thank you! Also, loved the fall down the stairs 😅
Lol I appreciate that
Also a good idea to check if the pile is directional, and if so, lay it so it’s smooth towards the riser, and rough towards the bullnose.
That’s a great tip. Thank you.
Great video with clear instructions.
Helped me a ton. Thank you!!
Thanks, I glad my video helped
This was today’s project and watching your video, with its warm communication and helpful tips made a difference. That link to the tape was a big plus as well. Best wishes!
Laura, I’m so glad it was helpful.
@@ReadySetBuildItDo you have any experience with adding padding to these particular treads? I would like them to be cushier. Thank you.
@@laurakatemarshall7330 Hi Laura. I do not. The pads I selected had a fair amount of cushion. I’m not sure you can add cushion without sacrificing their flush fit to the stairs. Passing for stairs is usually done under stairs that have been carpeted.
@@ReadySetBuildItYes, that makes sense. Thank you.
extremely valuable video, thanks!
Thanks
thanks for this video...I came to search for TACKING down carpet treads and found this ...you helped so much !
I glad it helped. Paula.
Thanks for the video!
I hope helped
Love it. Thank you ❤
Thanks for sharing 😊
Thanks for watching!
Thank you. Great video.
Thanks for the view
Love it! Thanks man 👍
Thanks for watching!
Exactly what I needed. 👍🏾
I’m glad this video helped.
Lol at the slide down the stairs. Funny and informative!
lol thanks
Laser level; brilliant! Thank you Ready Set Build It!
I’m glad it helped. I think it really simplified the installation.
Thank you very much. All the best.
I subscribed solely on the intro fake falling 😂 Great video!
Haha. Thank you so much!
When you have kids running up and down stairs, these are a good idea.
They definitely bring piece of mind
Thanks for the video!
I appreciate you
Beautiful video! Easy peasy. Thank you!
Pleasure. Thank you for watching
Such a good video.
Thanks so much
Great Video!!!! You are Awesome! I subscribed
Thanks so much!
Thank you so much! I can do that! At least I hope I can! You make it look like I can!
🤪😝🤩
You absolutely can. Thank you for checking out my video.
Thanks for the video. I bought the exact same carpet treads.
Absolutely! Thanks for watching.
Great video! Especially the intro falling down the stairs! ! Lol
Thank you
Thank you for this video!!
Thanks for watching
Thank you!
Thanks for the view
He said half a day. LOL. I like to put them closer to the bullnose so it's more protective of the higher traffic area. Interested to see how this double sided tape works. Thanks RSB!
A year and change of 5 kids under 11 running up and down them. They are holding up like day 1, but time will tell.
@@ReadySetBuildIt 4 under 5! Triplets plus one! The tape works like magic. 👍
LMAO at beginning of video. He’s hilarious!! 🤣
Lol I appreciate that
@@ReadySetBuildIt we appreciate your humor and having fun while showing us a Tutorial. mean the falling down the stairs demonstration was truly the highlight. Then the whistling. LOL. I’ve watched the beginning five times over. 🤣😃
@@JovinMyHeart4Eva lol
Very good 😂
🤣
Drew, thanks for the great "how-to" video. Did you use "X-fasten Double-stick Woodworking Tape" or X-fasten Double-sided Carpet Tape? The link takes us to the Woodworking tape.
Hey, thanks for letting me know. I added the wrong tape. I used the carpet tape variety. I updated it to the one I used. Thanks for watching.
Thanks!
Welcome
I have those same treads
They hold up well
Very good vid!
I just got a set of stair carpets for my older dog (who slid all the way down the stairs last week). :(
Was thinking of tacking them down, but I think I will go with the tape now. Thanks!!
Wise decision my friend. Thank you for watching.
Never used a laser. Would have liked to see how that works and how you position it but still loved the video. I bought treads ages ago and still haven’t installed them. Lol
Aaron, thanks so much for watching. The laser was set up on a tripod and used as a reference. I didn’t include it in the video for just that reason. It’s a set it and forget it helper.
That laser tool seems crazy to me .. never used one in my life.
But it's probably worth it and not expensive
Laser level is awesome. Great for hanging pictures, laying tile, and anything requiring a straight level or plum line
جميل جدا 😍
Thanks so much
Nice video. If you decide to remove them down the line, would the sticky tape damage the steps?
Great question. It won’t. If there is a little residue left behind, good gone will take it right up.
the fall was hilarious. Thank you so much for the information!
quick question: Would this be possible to do with carpet that you cut vs the pre-cut/ pre-made carpet tread you had? I have some stairs that aren't a conventional shape so I'm looking into maybe getting some carpet and cutting it myself.
Thanks so much. It should work as long as the underside of the carpet is a material the tape will stick too. Also I would be concerned about the look of the edges on cut carpet as the treads have a sewn edge on them.
New hardwood stairs put in and just bought the stair heads but I didn't want to ruin my hardwood floors by having residue left behind. Thanks
It will always be my choice. I’m glad they worked out for you
Great video. Any recommendations for that 1"in that is not covered? My puppy can't go downstairs because where his paws land it isn't on the carpet but the uncovered space.
You can have less of a gap at the edge. Just make it the same gap throughout. Another option is to install a runner on your stairs instead of carpet treads
looked easy to do. just wished you would have told us how far in to place the tape on the tread. And the width of the tape you used. thanks.
Hey Theresa. It is very easy to do. Play the tape as close to the end without it showing on the topside. The tape I used is linked in the description below. Let me know if I can clear up anything else for you. You got this!
I have 3/4" at the bullnose and about 1/2" in the back. Only installed one so far, but feels like maybe I should push them all the way back.
You may want to test coming down your stairs. That’s where most of the slip hazards are. I would cheat to the bull nose if it were me. If you walk down and you feel there is adequate tread under your foot, leave it, but if not, adjust and press on. Good luck
@@ReadySetBuildIt I pulled it and replaced it butted against the back wall. After some though, my kids drag their feet and they'll peel it up if I hug the nose to close. HUGE improvement and my aging dog doesn't slip now. Will upgrade to a full runner or at least something that curls over the nose when we improve things, but this was def worth the $50 for pads and tape. Thanks for the tips!!
@@ThePackDad that’s awesome. I’m glad it worked out for you. Happy New Year!
I need to do this. Just took all the carpet off stairs. Refinished them and they are slippery!
This will absolutely solve your problem
Thanks for the great video! I just painted my basement stairs and want to add carpet treads. Since the stairs are painted, do you think the tape is enough?
Hi Carol. I’m glad you got something from it. I think the tape will be plenty. I would only suggest making sure the paint has cured for a week or two before putting the tape down.
@@ReadySetBuildIt Thank you so much for the very quick reply! I will wait a week or two.
Which laser level do you use? I’d like to purchase one
I use a Huepar. I have it linked in the description of the video. Check it out.
Thank you!@@ReadySetBuildIt
Hilarious how the guy is looking at himself in the monitor while he's talking instead of looking at the camera toward the viewer. 🤣
Absolutely hilarious!
And here's me paying attention instead to the work he's doing. Dam.
Thanks for the info. What size tape roll did you get for the standard staircase?
Very welcome. 2”x30 yards was plenty with much left over.
@@ReadySetBuildIt One regret is not putting the treads at the tip of the stair, when I go down the steps your foot is going off the carpet, which is so annoying. I might have to redo it all.
@@goldilocksfh7744 I hear yah. The good news is the tape easily releases.
@@ReadySetBuildIt ok good. It took a lot for me to lay it down. You made it look so easy though lol.
@@goldilocksfh7744 haha
What kind of tool did you use to cut the double sided tape?
It’s a utility knife. Really any cutting tool will do.
how long does this tape last?? Few days, weeks or really longer ?
I can’t answer to how long it last, but I can tell you it’s been in place for a year now and it hasn’t moved once.
@@ReadySetBuildIt interesting, what brand of tape? By chance maybe until remember
@@lollawell1732 xfasten. There is a link in the description for this video to all the tools and products I used
I have a feeling we bought these for the same reasons
I would say so
Comedian too? Hehe
Haha
I'm kringing everytime I see the laser twinkle in his eye lol ... not good for the cornea i think.
I made it. Don’t worry.
Great video. Thank you!
Thanks Judy
