Will depend on what revs you're seeing at wide open throttle? Do you have a tacho on the engine? If it's reving to max rpm the next pitch up may give you some more speed. If not it may labour the motor and you'll go a little slower. 40hp on an 18' boat isn't heaps of power even with it being alluminium so a lower pitched prop might be required to get the engine to rev within its required rev range.
Hello Simon, I've seen you've tested both Suzuki and Yamaha 40hp 4strokes, which one is better in your opinion? Which do you recommend and why? Fuel consumption is equal? Would appreciate some info from you experience on these 2 :)
I think they are both great engines. The Suzuki seems to have more low down torque and a slightly better tiller handle if you are not using forward controls. Its gearing means it can spin a 15P prop with a much bigger diameter than the Yamaha. Neither motor uses a lot of fuel so that wont be an issue with either, in saying that I believe the Yamaha was a little more efficient. I found that the Suzuki had issues if you are trying to connect it to a NMEA network with Lowrance Simrad gear however that's not a super common requirement on engines of this size and I'm sure that problem has been sorted now. Yamaha is the more common choice with commercial operators near where I am as they are renowned to be bullet proof although I've never heard of any reliability issues with the Suzuki. You'll be happy with either however if you're going to load your boat up with people and run it heavy I'd buy the Suzuki.
Thank you for usefull info Simon, I was thinking about Suzuki also, because of almost 200cc bigger block. that should be the reason of more low -mid torque.
almasi72 not sure about the 25hp? The 40 and 50hp engines have circular restrictor plates in them with holes to let the air through. I believe the 60 has no inlet restrictor. The plate in the 50hp has more open area in its restrictor plate to let more air through than the plate in the 40 (the 40 has 4 holes) . im not sure exactly what else is done to the engine. We found an additional 500rpm at WOT with the plate removed spinning a 15" P SS Solas prop on a 40hp.
almasi72 can you let me know what happens if you make the change? I'm not sure if it will need an ECU remap also however if you don't you'll know immediately after removing the restriction plate.
Hi Simon, did you remove the complete restrictor or did you change it with the part from the DF50? Did you changed the CDI and had you any problems after re-districting (without CDI change)? The CDI from the 40, 50 and 60 all have different part numbers. Thanks.
Hi the restrictor was removed and the CDI was reflashed. I wasn't here when it was done so I'm not sure if the process however I was told it was remapped to what a DF60 ran. It gave me another 400 rpm at full throttle on a 15P prop (big difference)
Thanks for your answer. So there must be some difference in mapping in the CDI in addition to the rev limiter?! What did you pay for remapping? Could every dealer do this? A new CDI costs over 1.000,- Euro. I ordered the DF40A last week and i dont want to buy a new CDI.
@@Koni205 yeah I think most dealers could do it although I don't think they would advertise it as Suzuki wouldn't like them doing it as everyone would just buy a 40 and reflash it Mine didn't cost anything as a friend did it as the motor was slightly underpowered for the boat and it didn't achieve the performance we were after.
@@Koni205 I was wondering about the reflash also. I have a DF25A and I want to remove my restrictor plate. Did you have to reflash your df40 ? Greetings from New York
G/day Simon is that a 11 x15 prop you got from Solas, I live on the sunny coast! Also considering the outlaw, do you have an under floor tank or the normal 25l tank? Great vid mate I have the 50 just about to swap it from my hornet!!
Slick Filmz there pretty much the same. renegade probably looks better although I've heard the outlaws go a little quicker as the blade Hull is a little sticky
Slick Filmz I reckon once they're both a year old they are worth the same. they say the blade Hull is really dry on the quinny however I've ran that stacer Evo through some tough windy stuff and have been amazed how dry it is. you'll be happy with either. The $2k saving on the stacer will buy you an ipilot electric motor
also see how much the 50hp will cost you. they are not a light boat so it's good to max out the hp on them. especially if you've got a couple of people on board.
Hey, I'm just wondering what hight bolt holes is the motor positioned on at the transom ?
Hi! Is the df40 the same engine as a df50? Can the engine easy get tune to a 50 hp etc, or not?
Does the nose stay down when out solo going onto the plane?
Hello. What was your speed. I can’t seem to find it?
Wow that was very informative
Where is the tilt and trim button located?
Sir, did you completely remove your restrictor plate, also did you change your ecu or did you leave it as it was ? Thanks in advance
Do you think a 15"pitch prop would give me a little more speed on my 18ft Aluminum v hull Lund with my 2 stroke Suzuki 40hp? i currently have a 14p

im looking same engine for 10 seat dive boat .. is it going to worth to go for Suzuki or Yamaha ?
Poonam Darne what size motor are you after? Same comments mentioned earlier apply to most of the HP sizes.
How do you de-restrict the DF40? Is there a way to de-restrict the DF25A as well?

Thanks for the info. I'll look up the schematic for the DF25A to see if there is a restrictor plate.
I found the schematic and yes, the DF25A does have a restrictor plate that is not there on the DF30A.

Does the trim switch on the end of the tiller handle rotate with the throttle twist or does it remain stationary?
needs out trim a touch
that spray though

Hey mate - yep its a 11 x 15P Solas and yes it has the underfloor tank in it. Great little boat. very dry riding and smooth for a tinny
Cheers, just did some research on it, was the choice of a tiller to keep the cost down or the practicality of the space??
BundaFP originally for the space however I’ve since put a side console in it. Surprised me how much space you still have with the console
v/nice I'm thinking that will be the way to go!! Thanks for putting up this post mate, straight to the point!!
@@SimonH2O is it 11" or 11-1/2" diameter?
this or the 420 renegade?

do you think the blade hull is essential? i have been quoted 16990 420 side console outlaw with 40hp etec and 18990 420 renegade with 40hp etec
