  • Join me as I search out and then discover an abandoned colonial era home site to metal detect. I find an interesting half cent coin that has been modified and also uncover a really cool four leaf clover stick pin that I think dates to the early 1800's or so. I do mention another large cent coin that I found previous that I wanted to show at the end of this video, but I cannot find it at this time. Sorry.

My biggest regret is starting detecting when i was still in a bad place personally, i ended up selling almost everything i found the first year..but detecting is what brought me out of the dark place and now you have to pry my treasures from my cold dead hands before i would sell something. Love going back and seeing where it all began for me..right here with the Chigg.

Beau, Thanks for the video! Not only was it interesting, but it also was very educational. You showed us how to look for and discover an old home site that was not at all visible in the deep woods. You used the bricks to hit at an old home, approach it from the correct direction, and then apply forensics to discover different metal objects that hinted at what happen to this home and barn.. Typically, one would have just walked through the site, but you showed us how to discover good locations for metal detecting!! I will use your techniques here in California. Great job!

Actually it was great that you did not edit out your problem finding that button. We all run into this especially when new at detecting just last weekend I was teaching a friend to detect, he exclaimed "Signal disappeared "!! I told him to check the hand shovel and sure enough a dime was stuck to the back side of the shovel. He laughed saying that he never would have looked there.

I LOVE the sound that detector makes. Its a much softer/smoother sound that the other ones you use. And since I was in a "giggly" mood while watching this video, I kept mocking the high pitched "MEH!" sound when you dug that coin thru the root. MEH! MEH! MEH!

I have a whites Sierra Madre with two coils, the 9" and the 15" and my IDX pro. I found an old old car buried in the riverbed covered with 3 feet of dirt and gravel. WOW, I thought I hit the mother lode for sure. After I dug a considerable hole I found the car which I didn't further dig up. It was a car from the twenties or so and I broke off the brass windshield holder that holds it open for ventilation and it was as shiny as the day it was made.
Good luck on your detecting ventures.

I had a signal dissapear on me once, dug it, and dug it, and a root popped up...dug around it, underneath it, took the pinpointer out...nothing.
Then I raised the pinpointer to the root....signal. Guess the root grew around/ over the object and kinda absorbed it. It was after all a site where there had been heavy fighting, and judging from the craters throughout the area - heavily bombed/ shelled. To confirm that, I started to scan the sides of the crater about five meters away....and sure enough, shrapnel everywhere... .

Sewed a patch of hook (and loop, ie. Velcro) to each thigh of my Target cargo pants. Then glue 'loop' to Dollar Store type bristle scrubbers or ? to another material suited for what you're hunting. Put the scrubber on the hooks when hunting or you can substitute anything you want, like green pad. The hook is plastic and doesn't get destroyed when washing. Just remember to pop off the 'accessories' before washing

you should come on up to my town (Elmira, NY). We had a civil war prison camp near a river. To my knowledge, it has never been seriously detected. We also had a large amusement park in the early to mid 1800s which I know has never been seriously explored. I've always been of the belief that there would be lots of silver coins waiting to be found. I also have access to Mark Twain's farm which has never been detected. I know during the Civil War, several waves of the Union Army took basic training here and several regiments including the 50th NY Engineers drilled before heading south. There's also an area very near me where the federal govt. used imminent domain to removed the people from 121 farms due to bad soil. They bulldozed the houses and barns and made nation forest out of it. These farms had been there since the early 1800s straight through 1930s. I know as fact that only a handful of these farms have been explored and I know which ones have not. Also many old Indian camps none of which have been touched. Let me know if interested.
