Happy Sunday, notification squad! Yeah I got a LOT of comments requesting I react to Jaiden's video and I thought it best I do it now and be respectful with it! Huge shoutout to editor Jamie for turning it around so quick and to Jaiden for making such a fun video!
This! As a pokemon fan I am endlessly fascinated by the digimon's designs and I would love a deep dive into how and why digimon exist in the lore and what they're all about!
@@TheLeafcuter One of the difficulties here is that Digimon consists of several distinct universes, where the answer to "what is a Digimon" is completely different. The only consistent answer across all series is that they are creatures made of digital data, but this doesn't tell you very much about them. Everything Pokemon exists within one universe so it's a lot easier to ease into and generally figure out.
Not gonna lie she picked the wrong game i have biased i like dusk more than dawn but nevertheless its good but its not for someone whos trying to get into digimon. I got my nephew to get into digimon in a weird way its a fan game called digimon tamers rebirth i think cause i dint wanna make him sit to play a ds digimon game lol. And i know my nephew isint gonna finish a digimon story anyways since he cant even finish a pokemon game.
I was thinking exactly the same thing: Digimon as a franchise is not something I would get into through video games. It's pretty much the inverse situation to Pokémon in my opinion.
the thing is is that jaiden likes games. not the card games or really the shows. she does games. so the only real way to get into digimon is gaming for her specifically.
Exactly the thing is that Digimon is not really a gaming franchise, or at least it depends on what you consider a "gaming franchise". It's a Tamagotchi spin-off, so the best way to get into it is playing the Tamagotchi-like V-Pets. Getting into Digimon through the games is exactly like getting into Tamagotchi through the console games and not the original portable little devices.
12:18 Yeah, 15 hours isn't that long, but I think the point Jaiden was making wasn't just that it was too long, but that not enough happened in the plot to justify it taking as long as it did. Also keep in mind that she was using speedup, so the actual length would've been significantly longer.
Im guilty of having 180Hrs. Into dusk mainly for my obsession with dusk and me maxing out all stats and the fact that i sometimes tend to fall asleep when i grind so most of the time is just me asleep......then i wake up which ironically my dsi can last that long without being plugged it but it happens multiple times.
@Glorious-Free-time yeah newer phones battery dont last long due to how the phone uses the battery way too fast nowadays the older the phone the faster the battery drains.
@@emmanuelortiz1555 question is up to just the final story boss or does that include everything up to the legendary tamer or the gaia origins? Cause those two final extra main quest takes a bit more time to grind for. And the legendary tamer quest is locked under using the wifi system.
This is the third reaction I saw of this video from a digimon fan, and it’s so funny how every recommendation on what game Jaiden should have played was different 😂 Great reaction and video!! Keep it up ^^
I still think she shouldnt have started with dawn cause i played dusk and oh boy i feel her pain but since im obsessed with dusk and digimon in general i can let it slide her starting out with dawn not so much cause Dawn and Dusk isint something you start with trying to get into digimon for obvious reasons that Jaiden had to find out the hard way.
I commented on Jaiden's video recommending DW3 but I'd completely forgotten about the Digimon Adventure PSP! Good one Karn! And thanks for being one of the few big Digitubers who are forging a positive atmosphere for new and veteran digimon fans alike.
@@Karn_EX i was one that said cyber sleuth was a good starter as its not difficult and i liked the story i still play it to this day on my switch after my ps4 died
A big thing for me was when I noticed SHE NEVER USED HER FARM, I feel so sorry for her, if she plays cyber sleuth she'll need that farm island, I hope she can find and figure it out 😰
Side note, love your takes and fully agree with most of them, the only thing I don't is your recommendation and that's just because I've never played it and therefore can't recommend it, it does look really great though
I think the big difference between Digimon and Pokémon Games, is the genre. Digimon games have been multiple genres, so it’s hard to find a game that a large portion of the fan base would agree is good, just because there are certain game genres that even existing fans don’t like. Pokémon is basically the same jrpg every time so the only discourse is which Generation people like best, which doesn’t really effect whether you generally like Pokémon Games or not.
I still think that Cybersleuth is the best starting point, for a Pokémon fan. It's a really good turn-based JRPG, speaking as someone who was "converted" through it and kinda liked Digimon World 1, but not enough to dive into Digimon. Cybersleuth changed that, and I love it (and Hacker's Memory) nearly as much as Gen 4. CS had me looking in the wiki for some cool abilites, possible evolutions, and just enjoying planning what I was going to do with my Digimon. It has some flaws and I understand people that don't think it's the best game, but it's REALLY good, and a fantastic starting point into Digimon for people who like turn-based RPGs.
To be honest, during the entire video I was feeling sorry for Jaiden for not liking the game and suffering a lot. It's my favorite NDS game of Digimon, and my first walkthrough of the game I did understand everything by mere intuition and exploring the menu. And I'm currently playing again on Dusk edition, while Jaiden played 15 hrs in game I'm currently 72 hrs in game and still didn't beat the game. I wanna get that BantyoLeomon before the end game! >:D
It's a shame right? I feel like a lot of people got angry but her experience is her experience y'know? Hopefully she can continue to explore the franchise and may even come to like Dawn/Dusk in future
@@Karn_EX Yeah, it can't be helped. That was her experience and it can't be changed, but hey at least it didn't made hate the franchise. So there's still a possibility that Jaiden will find the "perfect" game for her to enjoy. And I'm waiting for that to happen! I want her to enjoy the franchise on her own way.
You know I think Jaiden realized the Seadramon line weren’t worms. She literally sarcastically calls it a “Well crafted nickname.” She knows what she was doing lol.
Pretty sure it wasn't a complete joke. I think as she made the whole point of Agumon not working with the nickname or as an evolution it was probably largely sincere/overlooked the Dragon part of Seadramon. At the end she remarks on getting it back as a worm. If you watch her cut up playthrough it seems like something genuine: ruclips.net/video/UWOG73-Ki9k/видео.html
@@Karn_EX Fair enough I guess. I’m not gonna lie I thought thinking that they were worms was stupid so I was trying to give the benefit of the doubt I guess. Though I did genuinely think she didn’t think it was actually a worm
@@Karn_EX Also, a lizard becoming a snake makes sense in real life evolution... according to what i've read, there a scientific theory that the snakes lost their limbs a long time ago because of evolution.
I think she just called it worm because it's funny to call a big sea dragon a worm because it has no limbs. Idk seems people just in general are looking way too deep into it.
In all honesty you should do a video in which you teach Jaiden how vast Digimon is and how she can more easily get into it just like Jaiden learned more about the competitive side of pokemon from another Poketuber alongside a General "What is Digimon" video. It can be a very informative and at the same time Fun moment for Jaiden as she can probably enjoy Digimon more and find an aspect she enjoys aside from the digimon designs. You and probably PragMagik can team up as well since PragMagik is also a pokemon fan who enjoys Digimon and heck you can even get The Actor for Koda Dino Charge Blue Ranger to give her more Digimon insight and just my ideas for this as I'm sure a lot of Digimon fans and fans of hers wanna see her get into digimon more
U make a really good point about bandainamco and the release schedule. I plan on making a video about one of her overall points that I do really agree with, as someone who kinda fell off the franchise for years before coming back, in that there isn't really a clear starting point for the franchise and it feels overwhelming to an outsider looking in. This is why channels like yours are super helpful karn! Keep up the good work!
Yeah, digimon is like the epitome of a multimedia franchise. I agreed or atleast understood most of her criticisms about the game. Dusk is probably in my top 5 Digimon games, but that is mainly because of being able to get digimon I was acquainted with through anime/manga/cards/other games.
Agreed. When she first started ragging on Dawn I was confused, because I remember the game very fondly. Still have my copies of Dusk and Dawn and played them a couple years ago again and had a great time. Once she started explaining her criticisms they were valid, and I found myself wondering why I enjoyed those games so much if I agreed with all of those negative points she brought up. I realized it’s because it probably has my favorite roster of digimon and digimon evolution lines of all time. All of the lines were very good, I never found myself disappointed in my evolution options. Also Coronamon and Lunamon are just perfect.
You also, probably, remember most of the maps, making it easier to go through the game, which makes a much more enjoyable experience. So all in all, the DS digimon games are better on second playthroughs.
the marketing for survive of course showed off the cool battles, but it also never once hid from the audience that it was a visual novel. in basically every website reporting on it ALSO said it was a visual novel. the INTERVIEWS all said visual novel. I think people just assumed that the new Digimon game was going to be Cyber Sleuth Again or something, and never once even googled it
Everytime she described the mazes and how you'd need to revisit them I couldn't help but think, "isn't that just...mystery dungeon?" But I haven't played dawn and dusk so maybe it isn't that similar
I remember having to quit the original digimon world ds when I was younger because of that damned swamp thing with the whirlpools, and when I tried dusk it felt even worse. The random encounters dont help either with just how frequent they are
Video idea alongside the "what is a Digimon" idea... The mechanics of each Digimon world in the animes and the games. They are all wildly different worlds in each iteration. Maybe a good video idea?
@@DrawciaGleam02 I mean... what are they though? "Digital lifeforms", yeah, but generally how they came to be or how they can be perceived is completely different. Like, despite working _like_ computer programms basically every time, sometimes they are just that, computer programms that developed a will of their own and grew to something independent of humans, while in other cases they only work like that, but have been independent from the beginning, becoming perceivable to humans through technology. Like, it is generally a very vague thing and different from series to series. Then there's also Digital Lifeforms, which confuse many Digimon-fans as well, like, how are they a thing but not Digimon, most likely answer is they simply don't have DigiCores, but DigiCores themselves are a lore-aspect I don't think is really mentioned in much media.
Personally a Huge Pokemon Fan and Definitely a Digimon Enjoyer Started as an DGM Anime Fan and Currently Hooked on the TCG I consider both of them Monster Tamer Series but that's about where I stop Comparing and just Enjoy them For their Unique Aspects in Storytelling, Designs & Gameplay
My introduction to Digimon games was cyber sleuth, I thought it was a really good transition from Pokemon to Digimon. It's just gen 5 triple battles all the time, tho as a long time fan of the anime I understood more how Digimon works. I'll definitely have to try playing Digimon adventure psp at some point because it does look fun. I still stand by my opinion that survive touches what makes digimon, Digimon but for a beginner probably not a good start off point sadly
It's definitely a much better pick but I think some of the traversal and mission stuff Jaiden complained about will probably manifest in Cyber Sleuth too lol Adventure PSP is a REALLY good beginner game I think, worth checking out at any stage though. Survive is so so good but yeah not a beginner game haha
@@Karn_EX honestly I think with Dawn the issue was more a accumulation of smaller issues that dragged the overall experience down. Cyber Sleuth did a lot of quality of live improvements and is way better at engaging the player into it's story. It's absolutely a viable game for beginners because it has a lot more good stuff going on to ignore the bad. I don't want to be too harsh on Dawn and Dusk but those games seem like they are very tedious and uninteresting for people who aren't already engaged in the franchise. I think Cyber sleuth is just a way more polished game which can engage people who aren't into digimon already.
I'd honestly love to see a video series where Jaiden just binges Wikimon or bogleech's digimon reviews and talks about the Digimon designs she likes, if she's worried about trying another game: I mostly enjoy the series less for the games or the anime (tho I do occasionally consume both) and more just as a monster/creature design thing where I keep up with the new digimon, make charts of my favorite designs, and come up with my own headcanon evolution lines.
It's funny because I literally left a comment in her video that she should have done Adventure PSP as her first game. Also, as a person who grew up watching digimon, it's wild that people don't know that digimon talk and are sentient. Blew my mind.
Honestly I think having an explanation video on digimon, digital worlds, digi destined etc would be great. I’ve been a fan since it first aired in the UK and I still get lost ever now and then. Potentially worth a series with an overview and then explain each series
Very glad to see you did a reaction to this, I was hoping :) a 'What is a Digimon' for the people who have no clue may be a great idea and a way for new viewers to get into the channel!
You summed up a lot of my thoughts, Karn. As a casual enjoyer of both Pokemon and Digimon, I still felt the "oof" with Jaiden starting with the games instead of the anime, but I am glad that there are some people who are being kind about that response and counterbalancing those that are being "rude" - because the latter will just turn her off from the series more, maybe. I hope she can find more enjoyment from Digimon. And I definitely think a "Professor Karn" series for beginners for the franchise would be really fun to see. If nothing else just so we can get a new Wormmon design with a labcoat like Agumon Expert.
I play in weekly Pokemon card tournaments at a local game store, and I always use my Digimon playmat. It's a great conversation starter, and I'm often surprised to find other Digimon fans there! Solid proof the series don't have to stand in opposition to each other
I agree, there's no reason someone can't be a fan of both Pokemon and Digimon, in fact I think it would make sense for someone who likes one to at the very least be open minded about the other one, too. I myself have enjoyed both series since I was younger, and part of the reason why I got into Digimon to begin with was because of it's similarities to Pokemon; it's also in no small part because of this that I don't like when people call Digimon a "rip-off" of Pokemon, as to me that just shows that they are more closed minded and haven't really experienced what both franchises have to offer
a 7 character name limit (pokemon) is a thousand times better than a 5 character name limit. with every character added to the limit, it gets exponentially better until it hits about 10 characters in which there is a massive usefulness drop-off. it's exponential growth directly into diminishing returns
3:40 I don't think the marketing for Digimon Survive was misleading. I think wanted a full RPG like Cyber Sleuth or the world games and didn't saw (wanted to see) the "warnings" that it is more a visual novel with some rpg gameplay. But still i don't know why some people are so negativ about it. For me it was like a playble Digimon Season (and a actual dark one) and probably a lot of the people who complain got into digimon through the anime.
Honestly my only criticisms with Jaiden's actual video are the title and the thumbnail, both are very misleading about how she ultimately feels and come across as very negative which is what's most likely going to upset Digimon fans- otherwise the video makes some fair points about her experience with her owning up to the fact that she didn't pick the right game but still coming out with the positive outcome of enjoying Digimon despite this experience. Though I disagree with you; I do need Digimon-related therapy, but not because of the games, because the anime keeps consecutively coming directly for my feels
Kinda strange that Jaiden changed the title of her video from "Pokemon fan tries DIgimon for the first time" to "Pokemon fan tries Digimon and hated it"
what i really like in Digimon is the story both in game and anime because they are well written, ill do anything to finish the story even if the gameplay is bad because for me the treasure in digimon games are the story.
This is actually a good point, well done editor. Also, loving the background you have improved. The Card display is amazing, and I am so jealous of your collection. I will comment again when I have seen the entire video lol
Ya a lot of people where too hard on her and tend to forget this was her first time playing Digimon she chose the wrong game to start with yes but she generally did like the Digimon designs and said she had her favorites and said she would do cybersluthe eventually
Ya people get a lil too invested in a franchise like I love Digimon more than Pokemon even though I love both I can't see getting mad over her opinions on something this trival an I just hope people's remarks and comments towards her Video doesn't scare her away From playing and getting more into Digimon
there is a trifecta in my brain when it comes to things pokemon-like. Pokemon used to have great games so I play the old ones, the designs for digimon is pure eyecandy so I watch the shows from time to time, and Yugioh is the best card game I have ever played, and I sometimes go to local small tournaments. If I devoted myself to pokemon, I would be traped with gen 5 and below because anything after that is terrible garbage, if I became a pure digimon fan then I might burn myself out on my love for the designs, and If I became a pure yugioh fan then I would be forced to suffer through the meta in the online games. Subjecting oneself to only 1 thing in a genre is a terrible thing to do, and I'm glad Jaiden is branching out more and I encourage everyone else to do the same.
04:00 "there's no one game pokemon fans agree is the best either" no this is true, but it's gonna be one of the main stable of games, not pokemon dungeons or w/e spinoff, and also Jaiden hasn't had to go looking for that opinion in Pokemon fandom because she's familiar with it. I agree it's a slightly flawed perspective, but if I googled "best pokemon game to start with" while I'd find a number of opinions, they'd probably boil down to a much smaller number, and judging by pro/con lists I"ve seen of each game, it would probably be easier to come out with a general idea of "it should probably be one of these 2-3 so now I'm free to pick on aesthetic alone". That's my experience as the spouse of a pokemon fan anyway, ymmv. Also... unless you get into the spinoffs, the core gameplay of pokemon games doesn't really change, where it sounds like there really IS no line of "core gameplay" for the digimon games, so that makes it harder to figure out where to start on its own. But then again, this is coming from someone as unfamiliar with the franchise as Jaiden was, so there may be things I'd only be able to figure out by talking to a knowledgable digigames fan, of which I know uh.... none. ^^;;
Jaiden’s video has dug a ton of digimon RUclipsrs up for me, which has been really fun because I’ve always loved the anime but never played any games since digimon world as a kid. I remember wanting to figure that game out but I just couldn’t. So it’s great to find a RUclipsr who could explain where digimon fans are these days and that it’s not all about the games. I found another RUclipsr who was lost on copium saying every digimon game was perfect and she was being dramatic. Great reaction vid 👍
I hope she does another Digimon video in the future; Honestly, Karn, I think you should do a crossover with her, like doing a Digimon challenge or something! Personally for me Digimon for me is a game franchise whether we are referring to the video games, V-Pets or even the more recent card game. I guess the anime and mangas aren't so much my thing but I think a lot of that has to probably do with my age plus I am just a big gamer first.
Being someone who loves both Pokémon and Digimon but has been more active on the Pokémon side of things, I can confirm that us Pokémon fans going at each others throats is 100% accurate. Thing about this is there are a lot of different types of pokémon players and fans at different levels just due to people coming and going every generation and how mechanically robust the main games in particular are under the hood that I would probably be sitting here writing 2 sociology papers going throught all of it. Also someone on patreon should convince Karn to play some Pokémon VGC.
As a fan of digimon and pokemon Digimon you fall in love with through collectibles and the series Pokemon you fall in love with through video games and cards
The Digimon game franchise is as if they were all spinoffs of each other and although this is confusing, it's amazing, there are high chances that you will like some of the games thanks to their vast amount of game genres, for example my favorite Digimon game is Digimon World Championship
I saw Jaiden's video first, and seen other's reactions before your's first, but your is the best! It makes me want to find my old digimon game (that I cant remember the name of) and play it some more!
It's true, there's no agreement on what game, or even what generation of Pokemon is the best, the problem is that Pokemon games are generally the same gameplay wise, with tweeks here or there. You can pick any one, and the consensus will be "yes, that is a good example of the pokemon game experience". Digimon... Well you have a Vpet simulator on World 1, a very flawed Dungeon Crawler for World 2. A Pokemon clone on World 3, Front Mission with even more visual novel in Survive, party fighting games in Rumble Arena, and so on and so forth. I love all of those games but none of them are great examples of what a Digimon Game is, because there's no way to tell what that game type is. I think World 1 is still the best one to play if you don't mind a guide, because it's a videogame version of the Vpets, which seems to be what Bandai puts more resources into.
So glad you did this reaction video. And I agree that with Digimon, it's the anime first and then the video games. Definitely a shame she couldn't ask you for recommendations.
Yay! You did the video! I'm so glad you got to see it and I'm glad to know someone else who played Digimon World Dusk and had fun with it! 😊 I'm looking forward to seeing your video explaining Digimon to those who don't know it yet. I hope you can invite Jaiden Animations to join you
For me, I am basically the opposite of Jaiden. I for the love of Arceus could not get into Pokemon, but Digimon was my jam. Everything from the characters that were my age, at the time, and had complex issues that they had to solve. Friendships made and lost. A sense of adventure. ACTUAL STAKES! It had it all for me! Even the less popular seasons I enjoyed simply because of my nostalgia. But Pokemon, no matter which one I watched, it was always the same. Ash does this, Ash goes their, pawn to king. I didn't hate the games I played but they were still the same thing. Do this, do that, stop them, help those. I can get why people enjoyed I just couldn't get into it. Digimon was for me and I love it to this day.
I'm a Digimon fan before I was a Pokemon fan. But I think you might be interested in the Pokemon manga as it is better than the anime. The anime now is just Goh (Ash's friend) with plot armor and forced friendship with the Pokemon they catch. But the manga has what you might be looking for. There are stakes and have dark messages (like unethical animal experimentation) and the characters there don't have any Ash, but characters parallel with the game MCs and changes every "season" on the game that it is based on. Most characters are interesting like Red being great in his town but realizing that he still has so much to learn about. Ruby and Sapphire being childhood friends and growing up to be opposites of who they were back then because of an incident that happened. And etc.
@@Karn_EX Also, thanks to you, I not only upgraded my phone to one that supports NFC (for the app), but I also preordered the Vital Bracelet BE. Which is crazy as I don't know much about the Digimon universe, but I couldn't help wanting to revisit the idea of having a Tamagotchi again. (Also also, I have been needing an excuse to upgrade my phone for a year now, so it's not ALL your fault :p)
I wouldn't mind seeing a video of you educating Jaiden on Digimon, would be a really fun watch/listen for both Digimon fans and those unfamiliar with the franchise that are fans of Jaiden
My take of medium temperature is that even though Dawn/Dusk are better in a lot of ways, World DS/the original Digimon Story is a better introduction to what the game is all about and giving things to you gradually instead of all at once. EDIT: not even saying World DS is the *best* start, just a better one than dusk/dawn
Funnily enough I got into Digimon through Cyber Sleuth. I had wanted to get into the series for a long time but didn't really get around doing so until I played Cyber Sleuth. Although it references older pieces of Digimon media a lot it felt really newbie friendly to me. Since then I've played both Cyber Sleuth games, Digimon World Next Order, watched Tamers and a little bit of Ghost Game, and read V-Tamer as well as a little bit of Digimon Next. I also started playing Survive recently but I haven't cleared a route yet and with Scarlet/Violet just around the corner I think it's gonna be a while until I get back to it. I plan to watch Digimon Adventure soon as well as some other seasons.
Cyber sleuth is ok to start with since its newer game before survive came out and it a more polished version of dawn and dusk which i do love dusk (looking at my 180hrs. Into the game) but i also see the problems that dusk have which cyber sleuth did a lot better. But as a fan if jaiden dint wanna start with cyber sleuth she shouldnt have started with dawn in my opinion DW3 is nice it was my first digimon game then its reverse i got DW1 but i dont remember much of it then went to redigitize then Ds titles in order World Ds And then Dusk cause i like Dusk better...... Then im currently revisiting digimon redigitze but the 3ds version.
IMO Digimon actually intended to be played for a long time like they are your partner. That's why I think Next Order is the closest representation of what original intended Digimon game style which is the Tamagotchi style (esp with Vita) but with touch of updated style mechanics and storyline. While The first Digimon World is great, but most of the stuff kinda outdated and newer fans wouldn't like it bcs it is annoying to raise them, plus not much variety of Digimon. Most Pokémon fans fail to like Digimon bcs their expectations of Digimon being similar to Pokémon which they're not. Especially the evolution mechanism.
You making a video explaining Digimon to those that don’t know and how to get into it would be interesting to see from you. From other Digimon RUclipsrs too, to see how you guys each view the franchise and enjoy it.
some of the issues with the games were the mass appeal strategy. this was alluded to in some interview after they stopped the western releases but I think the reason why a lot of the "good" games are Japanese exclusives is that a lot of the games were subject to some decision making from the Bandai EU and US branches. not that it changed any major game decisions, but communicating across countries and languages while avoiding different types of red-tape (and sometimes censorship but not always) made development take a lot longer than they should have and it shows. the Japan only releases were less restricted in that manner and are so much more polished but it could also be the "grass is greener across the fence" mentality I guess, not that they will ever straight up admit it and throw shade.
Yeah, I think the huge difference between pokemon and digimon games is that there isn't really one 'main' series with digimon. It's far more experimental than pokemon, more willing to go off the wall and be weird. Sure, there's arguably the 'world' and 'story' series as mainline games, but they've all got their own distinct flavor, story, and game mechanics that makes them distinctly different. Pokemon, in contrast, has its core foundation/plot/main games stay largely the same each time, just with a new skin of paint and some quality of life changes--not counting the occasional spinoffs (not saying the formula is bad, just that it's been pretty much the same for 25+years). There are way more spinoffs/weird releases with digimon, which can be hit or miss--and Bandai seems really keen on bringing up the misses as excuses for not releasing the hits in the west. It always feels like an uphill battle with Bandai to actually get English releases of stuff. On the flip side though, pokemon--while not exactly treated *well* by Nintendo--at least has regular releases and easy/legal access in the west.
I agree with you Karn, Pokemon fans do argue a lot more on what is the best game, but I do think one fundamental argument as to why it's easier to get into pokemon games is that, well, most pokemon games are fundamentally the same. Yes there's varying issues and changes between them, but the rules and goals don't change too frequently between games and you can start from nearly any game and understand pretty perfectly. Digimon games all vary wildly in what sort of gameplay they have so that's why I think it's more difficult to pick a Digimon game to start off with.
Definitely! Pokemon games are waaaay easier to pick up, I was just more responding to the specific statement that Digimon fans don't agree when Pokemon fans rarely do either haha
@@DrawciaGleam02 BW and its sequels were absolutely hated on their release. It is only in the past few years that the people who grew up with those games are old enough to talk about why they liked them, which has shifted public perception. People don't like Emerald, because some people really hate the design of the Hoenn region. Honestly I don't think enough people are willing to try the GameCube games due to accessibility to make a strong consensus.
She posted in her Jaiden channel an edited montage of her stream recording "Jaiden Experiences Digi-Torture", where you can see her first-hand reactions to the game (like freaking up at Tokomon's teeth), and get a grasp of how she played it.
I agree that Digimon is way more a story-anime type of franchise than a video game franchise, and thus getting in through the games is....a hard sell. BUT Jaiden is also mostly a video game creator, so its logical her first instinct going in blind would be to attack a video game. Flawed premise, but a logical one knowing Jaiden.
Also I'll say that Digimon games are often traditional JRPG in build. That meaning, lots of grinding equipment and random encounters. Lots of us enjoy that (especially if we enjoy Dawn and World DS) but alot of folks find that sort of gameplay torture. Definitely this video is a case of various preferences colliding...but still very well done
I do really hope a few very vocal people don't end up turning her away from the franchise going forward. That being said, while exposure from a big RUclipsr is nice, I am mostly worried about how she portrayed the Digimon fandom as a whole throughout. It was a very negative light and if this is going to be a lot of people's first exposure, it could do more harm than good. I've seen this with the Bleach and Fate fandoms, it gets labeled as "overprotective", "elitist", or just "toxic" by a few big channels, and then all of the sudden we need to defend ourselves despite always loving to bring in new fans. Especially when someone rags a franchise, then a few outlier members get mad about it, and then they say, "see, I told you they were all like this!" I am annoyed that she was apparently given everyone's number 1 starter pick in Cyber Sleuth, and just said no. Everyone suggests Cyber Sleuth for newbies, and then she claims the fandom is the one who can't come to an agreement.
I know exactly what you mean especially regarding bleach, I like totally not Mark for example but he had this way of constantly painting Bleach fans as the problem either in his reviews or on twitter while mostly ignoring all the positive comments he got from the community, even going as far to say the One Piece and Dragon Ball community aren't toxic which if he spend any amount of time on social media he'd realize every decent sized anime and up has its toxic fans. The victim complex he eas displaying on twitter really turned me off his bleach reviews not to say some people in the community werent giving him un warranted shit but it would of been the same if he had similar issues with one piece or dragon ball but because he holds them at such high regard of course the fanbase has no reason to be toxic when both of those series are clearly some of your favorite and some albeit clear bias towards them and how they are structured.
I'd just say that every fandom, especially Pokemon, can be terrible at points. As stated, Pokemon just has better entry points to get your feet wet, while Digimon only has the Adventure anime.
@@alfredgomez3128 The animes are the best place to start, but I do get her going for a video game first, as her channel is basically a Let's Play one sometimes. In that case, Cyber Sleuth was easily the best choice. Wish she had a more solid reason given than: looking like Persona. Even if it was like Persona, a good video could still be made from it. Though, Dawn/Dusk are honestly very tame for JRPGs, for length, difficulty, even as far as being "mazes". Series like Final Fantasy or Blue Dragon, are far harder. Maybe it's from coming off of Pokemon's very linear dungeon progression.
My favorite description for digimon evolutions is from Drawfee. Karina explains how with pokémon the line goes Charmander, Charmelion, Charizard. But with digimon it’s more like Charmander, Charizard, Charizard with pants and a gun, Gyarados, Professor Oak in bdsm wear, and then Ditto.
Yeahhhh I commented under Jaiden video when I first saw it. When she claimed Cyber Sleuth wouldn't be the game she would like and it was like Persona, and then she went and picked a DS game, I paused the video and said Yeahhhhh no wonder she wouldn't like Digimon. She probably picked one of the worst games to start with. I also wondered WHERE she was looking at because the Digimon reddit and twitter typically do not argue over what game to start with. I rarely ever see anyone recommend the PS1 Games to start with. I honestly would have recommended her to play Cyber Sleuth or Digimon Adventure game. I honestly feel like she would have loved Cyber Sleuth as that seems like more of her jam. Kind of felt like some of the video was just being funny but overly dramatic at times. It kind of gave the wrong impression lol I don't think she hated the experience, but she definitely should have found a digituber to consult like she did with the nuzlocke community for Pokemon.
I think Next Order is the best for a new Ayer getting into the franchise. Not perfect but it has the raising elements that are central to the franchise and a lot of quality of life features that weren't present in World 1.
She should've played Digimon Rumble Arena 2 for the ps2 While far from the average digimon gaming experience... She likes the designs and fun non-maze grindy gameplay... And it's super easy to pick up
My introduction to Digimon was through Digimon Rumble Arena 2, which then lead me to watching Digimon Adventure and Digimon Adventure 2 and I loved them and I've been a fan ever since. My favorite of the video games though is definitely Cyber Sleuth and even though she decided not to play it, I think if you're not going to introduce yourself through the anime Cyber Sleuth is the best video game to introduce yourself with due to its simple mechanics and good variety of Digimon to discover
woah. This is interesting. It makes a lot of sense that the games might not be as good knowing that it isn't the main focus of the franchise but the anime was. Thanks for the context.
8:38 I could be wrong, but I think that, ironically, the ancestors of snakes actually did have limbs that they gradually lost over time. So, that is how evolution works.
Kinda disagree with theres no game pokemon fans generally agree is the best place to start. In the pokemon community, i'd say a large majority could agree the FireRed/LeafGreen are basically the perfect games to start with. They're not to difficult but still requires some thought, the puzzles are easy in some points and challenging at others, the general level curve is pretty good, etc. The only hurdle is actually getting the games since they're GBA games. However, this can be easily overcome if you just install an emulator. Good video though, interesting to see how the other side lives.
The thing is digimon franchise not have a specific genre, every game is kinda his own thing, while pokemon games have their own difference for the most part the gameplay and core mechanic of what make them play as a pokemon is still kept, you still have turn based battles, you still catch pokemon, you still have 4 moves, you still make a pokemon forget a move to remember another move and etc, while you may not like the story or some pokemons of each gen in the end of the day you're still playing a pokemon game, meanwhile digimon games just kinda have their own thing some games play very focus on story, other games play similar to a typical rpg, some games follow the original tamagotchi style, other games follow the fighting style and etc digimon don't have a specific "core" gameplay that you see on every single main game of the franchise.
My first digimon game was Digimon World Dawn, and when I got the game, I had no memory of digimon or ever hearing the name, but as I played stuff started to click making me remember Digimon the First Movie that gave me nightmares and two kids telling me that Agumon was my partner.
Not too surprising. Diving in Digimon isn't easy to get into as casual audiences may think, Jaiden does need proper recommendations from Digimon Fans to know which game is ideal to go into first.
I just got into Digimon myself, for a number of reasons. I mean I checked it out as a kid and had generally positive opinions about it, but I never got really into it, but after rewatching Jaiden's Digimon video, and also watching an old Curtis Conner video about the Pokémon TCG that ended with him buying a bunch of old Digimon booster boxes, as well as the negative legend video about him getting into it, I decided to pick up Cyber Sleuth (well actually I bought it during the Christmas sale last year when I got my new pc, because I've kinda wanted to get into Digimon for a while) and I have barely thought about anything else for weeks (ADHD/Autism right there). I am at chapter 7 atm, trying to grind for platinum numemon so I don't have to grind as much in the future. I am also trying to get omnishoutmon but that's a longterm goal.
To be honest, her video got me interested in the franchise. I just saw the graphics and really loved the pixel art and overall design of everything. I’m sadly not much of a gamer, but hey, I love all the work that goes into games. And maybe I will pick up the trading cards to collects em. Sadly. The only videogame rpg that will forever hold my heart. Will keep on bein “combat of giant dragons DS”. Wait, is that even an rpg? Oh, wait, no. It’s a fighting game. Guess I’m only good for breaking bones.
If anyone wants to get to know Digimon or get into Digimon, I'll always recommend starting with Adventure (Tamers is pretty good too) because that was my experience. And what a wonderful experience that was!! I started as a Pokemon fan, I collected stickers, brought some figures and toys, I still remember some pokemons and episodes from the first 2 seasons of the anime fondly. But Digimon turned out to be way more special to me. And I'm not trying to even compare franchises because they are very different (those who think Pokemon and Digimon are the same have never watched both shows and don't know any better, I'm sure) I think I just outgrew Pokemon? While Digimon grew up alongside me. Digimon also has imo way more memorable characters, season, and plots. I still remember my Pokemon days fondly, I must have been around 7 years old? Idk. But Digimon is something else. Digimon is super special to me. Specifically and mainly the first 3 to 4 seasons. Adventure is and always will be in my heart❤
The thing is, we like digimon games because we wanna experience having the digimon we like as partners and because of this a lot of flaws are ignored XD
I started out with championship thinking it was just the coolest thing, then got ds and dusk and grew from there. definately thknk the anime helps out alot as j was mostly team pokemon then saw Omnishoutmon and reversed might try the psp game 1 day *legally*
I definitely need to go back to it, but I kinda feel like Championship is overhated. I enjoyed it as a single player combat tamogachi game with Pokemon Ranger inspiration. Though I might have also just been 15 and not know any better lol
Oh god that’s literally exactly my (and my cousin’s) experience with games. Yeah in retrospect it seems really hard to imagine going into these games without having seen.
I was hoping you would react to this, although I extremely respect her goal and exactly how hard it was for her to track down the game to start with, I do agree with some of her issues with the game in particular but some of her takes were very much going against the mechanics of the game it's a jrpg you're going to have to grind and talk to a lot of people to get more of the story, and I'm sure she didn't know if she picked a sequel to start with, it is interesting to me that people find this game to be very long when the story is extremely short. I agree with your take it's hard to start these game without watching the show, I know a lot of people say things like read the book, watch the movies, but Pokemon started with the game and then made a show which, is still in the shadow of the games give or take who you ask, it really is like what if you tell terrible spider-man game and based everything you knew about spider-man on one in the movie tie in games where that would be incorrect Lord have mercy Imagine trying to get into the X-Men games and playing any of those terrible games.
Happy Sunday, notification squad! Yeah I got a LOT of comments requesting I react to Jaiden's video and I thought it best I do it now and be respectful with it! Huge shoutout to editor Jamie for turning it around so quick and to Jaiden for making such a fun video!
I saw this yesterday and I Laughed my ass off
I was thinking of telling you too! Glad you did this!!
Here's another idea: Royal knight DNA digivolutions. I honestly just think it would be awesome to see Alphamon and Omegamon fuse.
You should reach out & do a Collab with Jaiden.
Happy Birthday!
A super general "What is a Digimon?" video would be great. Very general lore videos would be a fun series. And be healthy for old and new fans.
Actually yes
Very yes
One hundred percent agree.
Jaiden: And so I tried to find the best Digimon game to play
Karn: *pauses video and inhales sharply*
Ahahahahaha
I think we all did that, ad immedietly felt Jaiden's inevitable pain
@@clayxros576 My reaction to her decision was "Oh boy, she's gonna regret this."
Well, I didn't expect this encounter
I was thinking exactly the same thing: Digimon as a franchise is not something I would get into through video games. It's pretty much the inverse situation to Pokémon in my opinion.
For sure!
i feel the same about pokemon card game
the thing is is that jaiden likes games. not the card games or really the shows. she does games. so the only real way to get into digimon is gaming for her specifically.
Yeah for sure
Im guilty of having 180Hrs. Into dusk mainly for my obsession with dusk and me maxing out all stats and the fact that i sometimes tend to fall asleep when i grind so most of the time is just me asleep......then i wake up which ironically my dsi can last that long without being plugged it but it happens multiple times.
@Glorious-Free-time yeah newer phones battery dont last long due to how the phone uses the battery way too fast nowadays the older the phone the faster the battery drains.
I remember beating up the game the first time with 13 hours. Maybe 21 with the extra quests.
@@emmanuelortiz1555 question is up to just the final story boss or does that include everything up to the legendary tamer or the gaia origins? Cause those two final extra main quest takes a bit more time to grind for. And the legendary tamer quest is locked under using the wifi system.
This is the third reaction I saw of this video from a digimon fan, and it’s so funny how every recommendation on what game Jaiden should have played was different 😂
Great reaction and video!! Keep it up ^^
Hahah maybe she was right!
I noticed the same thing!
@@Karn_EXive just seen a lot of cyberslueth recommendation and disgust at the persona comparison for some reason
Seriously what’s wrong with persona
I commented on Jaiden's video recommending DW3 but I'd completely forgotten about the Digimon Adventure PSP! Good one Karn! And thanks for being one of the few big Digitubers who are forging a positive atmosphere for new and veteran digimon fans alike.
I think both are fairly good starts! And aww thanks, I'm just tryna have fun here and keep it light and welcoming if I can!
@@Karn_EX i was one that said cyber sleuth was a good starter as its not difficult and i liked the story i still play it to this day on my switch after my ps4 died
Digimon World 3 is even more of a grind fest than Dawn.
I wouldn't consider it a great start point personally.
I just played rumble arena 2 lol.
Jaiden: confused on how a lizard digivolves into a sea serpent.
Me: That's nothing. You haven't seen how a Digimon fuses with a human yet.
Surprised no one mentions a whale becoming a pixie
Or a dog turning into a cat, then turning into a humanoid angel , and then turning into a dog dragon thing lmao
If you watch her cut up playthrough it seems like something genuine:
ruclips.net/video/UWOG73-Ki9k/видео.html
@@Karn_EX Fair enough I guess. I’m not gonna lie I thought thinking that they were worms was stupid so I was trying to give the benefit of the doubt I guess. Though I did genuinely think she didn’t think it was actually a worm
@@Karn_EX Also, a lizard becoming a snake makes sense in real life evolution... according to what i've read, there a scientific theory that the snakes lost their limbs a long time ago because of evolution.
You could say it’s a wyrm
I think people just assumed that the new Digimon game was going to be Cyber Sleuth Again or something, and never once even googled it
FINALLY A REACTION VIDEO THAT SAYS SOMETHING EVERY 10 SECONDS AND ACTUALLY *REACTS* INSTEAD OF EVERY 10 MINUTES AND JUST *WATCHES*
Haha yeah I wanted to not just let her video play without any commentary
Everytime she described the mazes and how you'd need to revisit them I couldn't help but think, "isn't that just...mystery dungeon?"
But I haven't played dawn and dusk so maybe it isn't that similar
I remember having to quit the original digimon world ds when I was younger because of that damned swamp thing with the whirlpools, and when I tried dusk it felt even worse. The random encounters dont help either with just how frequent they are
I knew you'd react to this! Poketubers are always reacting to her videos so I knew a digitizer like you would react! Also happy birthday!
Thank you!! 😁
Video idea alongside the "what is a Digimon" idea... The mechanics of each Digimon world in the animes and the games. They are all wildly different worlds in each iteration. Maybe a good video idea?
Yeah! I'd be super into this!
Surprised more people aren't triggered by Jaiden's "what is a digimon"..... 😆😆
@@DrawciaGleam02 "A miserable pile of lies!"
... ops, wrong franchise.
@@DrawciaGleam02 it's been 20+ years and I'm still not even sure lol

It's definitely a much better pick but I think some of the traversal and mission stuff Jaiden complained about will probably manifest in Cyber Sleuth too lol
Adventure PSP is a REALLY good beginner game I think, worth checking out at any stage though. Survive is so so good but yeah not a beginner game haha
@@Karn_EX absolutely true, especially all the missions that have nothing to do with Digimon
You have to give Jaiden props for even giving Digimon a chance. Most Pokémon fans wouldn’t even do that.
This was the first thing that came into my mind when I saw Jaiden upload this. Karn HAS to react to it 😂
I play in weekly Pokemon card tournaments at a local game store, and I always use my Digimon playmat.
@@matthewkuscienko4616I agree. It’s okay to like both.
a 7 character name limit (pokemon) is a thousand times better than a 5 character name limit. with every character added to the limit, it gets exponentially better until it hits about 10 characters in which there is a massive usefulness drop-off. it's exponential growth directly into diminishing returns
3:40
I don't think the marketing for Digimon Survive was misleading.
If someone is interested in digimon, they should go through animes, movies and mangas, not video games.
"Digimon fans get along better than the Pokemon fandom" 100% accurate, the Digimon fandom (now that I am reentering it) feels very civil.
the argument of "oh pokemom gans cant agree what the best game is either" well yeah but they CAN agree at least on what games are good or not
They actually can't lol people shit on HGSS all the time

Yeah it's not that deep y'know, like I get the frustration but people gotta chill on fictional creatures
04:00 "there's no one game pokemon fans agree is the best either" no this is true, but it's gonna be one of the main stable of games, not pokemon dungeons or w/e spinoff, and also Jaiden hasn't had to go looking for that opinion in Pokemon fandom because she's familiar with it. I agree it's a slightly flawed perspective, but if I googled "best pokemon game to start with" while I'd find a number of opinions, they'd probably boil down to a much smaller number, and judging by pro/con lists I"ve seen of each game, it would probably be easier to come out with a general idea of "it should probably be one of these 2-3 so now I'm free to pick on aesthetic alone". That's my experience as the spouse of a pokemon fan anyway, ymmv. Also... unless you get into the spinoffs, the core gameplay of pokemon games doesn't really change, where it sounds like there really IS no line of "core gameplay" for the digimon games, so that makes it harder to figure out where to start on its own. But then again, this is coming from someone as unfamiliar with the franchise as Jaiden was, so there may be things I'd only be able to figure out by talking to a knowledgable digigames fan, of which I know uh.... none. ^^;;
(sorry for the wall'o'text)
Would love to do a crossover if Jaiden wants to!
@@Karn_EX try asking her or teach her the ways of digimon
Being someone who loves both Pokémon and Digimon but has been more active on the Pokémon side of things, I can confirm that us Pokémon fans going at each others throats is 100% accurate. Thing about this is there are a lot of different types of pokémon players and fans at different levels just due to people coming and going every generation and how mechanically robust the main games in particular are under the hood that I would probably be sitting here writing 2 sociology papers going throught all of it. Also someone on patreon should convince Karn to play some Pokémon VGC.
i saw jaiden's video prior to yours and the fact that seadramon line is one of my faves so i was practically screaming "its not a worm!!!"
As a fan of digimon and pokemon
Digimon you fall in love with through collectibles and the series
Pokemon you fall in love with through video games and cards
The Digimon game franchise is as if they were all spinoffs of each other and although this is confusing, it's amazing, there are high chances that you will like some of the games thanks to their vast amount of game genres, for example my favorite Digimon game is Digimon World Championship
I saw Jaiden's video first, and seen other's reactions before your's first, but your is the best! It makes me want to find my old digimon game (that I cant remember the name of) and play it some more!
Aww thanks so much!
I hope you can invite Jaiden Animations to join you
I was waiting for this!!!
A LOT of people asked for it, guess it had to be done haha
And etc.
Great video! Thanks a ton for bringing clarity to the franchise and it's games.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I'd be down for it!
Entire time I was watching I was saying to myself "Should've played Cybersleuth"
And Karn is now has a beard, beard boy
Great video as always Karn! I would love to see a series where you go over the basis of Digimon (maybe also having Jadien as a Co-host?)
That'd be cool, thanks!
Yay I was hoping you would do this reaction!
Thank you! Hope you enjoy it!
I thought Emerald, BW and their sequel, and the shadow pokemon games were universally loved by the fandom......
Love seeing your videos!!! :D commenting for that sweet sweet algorithm....
You're the best! Thanks so much!
Definitely, it makes sense for her channel type. That's why I really suggested Adventure PSP cause it's kinda best of both worlds lol
I think she enjoyed the most important part about digimon, being the digimon themselves. So i think that's a good thing.
100%
I do really hope a few very vocal people don't end up turning her away from the franchise going forward. That being said, while exposure from a big RUclipsr is nice, I am mostly worried about how she portrayed the Digimon fandom as a whole throughout. It was a very negative light and if this is going to be a lot of people's first exposure, it could do more harm than good.
I've seen this with the Bleach and Fate fandoms, it gets labeled as "overprotective", "elitist", or just "toxic" by a few big channels, and then all of the sudden we need to defend ourselves despite always loving to bring in new fans. Especially when someone rags a franchise, then a few outlier members get mad about it, and then they say, "see, I told you they were all like this!"
I am annoyed that she was apparently given everyone's number 1 starter pick in Cyber Sleuth, and just said no.
You making yourself look weird bro chill out
@@alfredgomez3128 i 'll say tamers is a good starting point as well
@@alfredgomez3128 The animes are the best place to start, but I do get her going for a video game first, as her channel is basically a Let's Play one sometimes.
She should've played Digimon Rumble Arena 2 for the ps2
While far from the average digimon gaming experience... She likes the designs and fun non-maze grindy gameplay... And it's super easy to pick up
Haha yeah definitely a good party game style
My introduction to Digimon was through Digimon Rumble Arena 2, which then lead me to watching Digimon Adventure and Digimon Adventure 2 and I loved them and I've been a fan ever since. My favorite of the video games though is definitely Cyber Sleuth and even though she decided not to play it, I think if you're not going to introduce yourself through the anime Cyber Sleuth is the best video game to introduce yourself with due to its simple mechanics and good variety of Digimon to discover
Woah i also got introduced via digimon rumble arena 2.
woah. This is interesting. It makes a lot of sense that the games might not be as good knowing that it isn't the main focus of the franchise but the anime was. Thanks for the context.
No prob!

I could be wrong, but I think that, ironically, the ancestors of snakes actually did have limbs that they gradually lost over time.
It actually is interesting how Empathetic Digifans are to her. But non-digifans are a bit more critical on her.
I was so waiting for this video haha
'There's always Yo-ho-ho!' XD I'm unabashedly stealing this line XD
If anyone wants to get to know Digimon or get into Digimon, I'll always recommend starting with Adventure (Tamers is pretty good too) because that was my experience. And what a wonderful experience that was!!
I started as a Pokemon fan, I collected stickers, brought some figures and toys, I still remember some pokemons and episodes from the first 2 seasons of the anime fondly. But Digimon turned out to be way more special to me. And I'm not trying to even compare franchises because they are very different (those who think Pokemon and Digimon are the same have never watched both shows and don't know any better, I'm sure)
I think I just outgrew Pokemon? While Digimon grew up alongside me. Digimon also has imo way more memorable characters, season, and plots.
I still remember my Pokemon days fondly, I must have been around 7 years old? Idk. But Digimon is something else. Digimon is super special to me. Specifically and mainly the first 3 to 4 seasons. Adventure is and always will be in my heart❤
HEY! I left a comment that she should collaborate with you for a future Digimon video. No spoilers of course. Happy Belated Birthday!
Hah nice! If she ever wanted to do more Digimon together I'd be down! And thank you!
3:02 Except when it comes to Anime series, then it's
Our war Game
*boooooooo!*
You know you love it
Big worm turning into a dragon from a lizard isnt that basically Snivy from Pokemon...?
(My thoughts as the poor adorable digimon is being called out)
When he was talking about digivolution being weird and random and I'm just sitting hear munching on my food thinking "and then there's Soulmon"
The thing is, we like digimon games because we wanna experience having the digimon we like as partners and because of this a lot of flaws are ignored XD
6:29 you literally go inside someones head, and fight a god seeking to change the world, and cyber sleuth has a side quest to fight the deadly sins.
You also do that in Final Fantasy X
@@Karn_EX yes but it also happened to be announced the same year as persona 5

I started out with championship thinking it was just the coolest thing, then got ds and dusk and grew from there.
definately thknk the anime helps out alot as j was mostly team pokemon then saw Omnishoutmon and reversed
might try the psp game 1 day *legally*
I definitely need to go back to it, but I kinda feel like Championship is overhated. I enjoyed it as a single player combat tamogachi game with Pokemon Ranger inspiration. Though I might have also just been 15 and not know any better lol
Oh god that’s literally exactly my (and my cousin’s) experience with games. Yeah in retrospect it seems really hard to imagine going into these games without having seen.
Funny enough my first digimon game was digimon rumble arena 2 for the ps2.
Great video!,keep up the good work and never give up
Thank you! Will do!
The Spider-Man game analogy just doesn’t work when all the 3d games except 2 are really good😭
Really liked this video! Very insightful and just your commentary is engaging! You’re a cool dude!
I appreciate that! Thank you!
