- I've been wanting to indulge in a bit more non UK vanlife, ever since I got back from my last trip earlier this year. Luckily for me I was able to fly all the way to Italy to pick up a brand new luxury camper van (aka a large motorhome). So now I have it for the next 10 days!
In that time I will be travelling back through Europe in the motorhome to experience van life in style. This 1st episode is all about the journey to collect the motorhome, and exploring sunny Italy!

I came down from Switzerland into Italy past Lake Como in a micro camper last year and I do not envy you trying to do the next leg of this journey in a 7.5m long motorhome. Next episode is going to be a hell of traffic jams and narrow roads for about 6 hours. If it weren't for the fact there's a delay in uploading and you will have already faced that nightmare road from Italy to Switzerland I'd have been telling you to get on a motorway, head to France or Austria and come at Switzerland from another direction for the sake of your sanity and that camper's paintwork!
Hi mate, not sure what roads you took but I didn’t have any traffic or difficulties the entire trip luckily! Apart from a slight queue at a toll road in…. (I can’t remember what country it was haha) but yeah in general the drive was easy mate
@@Adz I must just be unlucky. Every time I've tried to go to Italy the traffic was a nightmare.
It was possibly just a different route mate. I tend to just take the fastest route on Apple Maps most of the time

Stopped at lake garda (bardolino) in May, was a beautiful place.

I've got a very similar motorhome. I used to launch my drone discretely from the window hatch above the rear bed. Just place the drone on the roof and away you go 👍

Yes it’s a 1 way trip because they build them in Italy and need them back in the UK. As it happens I did go in the pool the next day and the water felt thick 😂😂😂

We still laugh now, the attendant had to get her some quantas FLEECE pjs to wear, they where XL she was 10yrs old tiny and bloody boiling hot when we arrived into 33deg heat! 😮😂😂

No they build them in Italy and rather than paying to have them shipped to the UK they allow people to drive them back over the course of 10 days. The money covers insurance and the ferry so it’s a win win situation for them and the customer. Haha BEEP BEEP

Why didnt you explore Florence, its beautiful! You seem in a hurry to get out of Italy? Also I would recommend July, definitely not August, too hot, April, May, end of Sept be your best bet.
I had 10 days and Switzerland was the main place I wanted to see. Plus the motorhome doesn’t have aircon or an extractor fan so it was far too hot to sleep. I’ll definitely do Italy in my own van though as it has an extractor fan and can keep cooler

Just catching up on your adventures!! I have a query about how you travel on planes with a drone. Do you put it in the hold luggage or hand luggage? If hand luggage do you have to have your batteries seperate?
I’m pretty sure batteries can’t go in hold luggage. Each airline has different rules though as to how many you can take and if they’re spares or contained in equipment. Also the battery capacity comes into it. So it’s best to check with the airline
I've just bought a vw crafter lwb. I drive a transit for work with an arm rest. The vw doesn't have one 😢

Looks like this "hire" company is a front for a camper manufacturer, wherein their hire customers are actually paying to be delivery drivers to get the vans into the UK for sale as new, albeit pre-registered!!! An incredible wheeze. Kudos to whoever thought it up...
Yeah they don’t hide the fact that’s what they do. It’s a factory re-location trip. (They also hire them in the UK). But it’s a win win situation as the money covers insurance and the ferry crossing. Good business model though!

It was so nice there but Switzerland is even better I think! The motorhome itself was £400 (including insurance and the ferry crossing) but unfortunately the fuel added a fair bit onto that! Haha BEEP BEEP
