Do you reckon it's a good purchase for music producers? I recently bought the DT 990 Pro (80 ohm impedance) headphones and wanted to get the most out of these headphones through a DAC/AMP system, without breaking the bank. The DX1, seems fit for the job, but what do you think?
I had the original hip dac and thought it sounded good, but it's gain was too high for me. I think the dx1 is at least more usable. It's been too long for me to really comment on sound.
excellent review! I know that it's more than twice the price, but how would this compare to the Magni+ & Modi + setup. I'm comparing the DX1 against those. It will be my first purchase of a amp and Dac. Not sure which way to go... Any thoughts? Thanks for the great straightforward - no-nonsense reviews.
Honestly, I’d probably take the dx1. Smoother to my ear than the Magni. Might depend on the headphone though. If you want to liven a set up, the Schiit Stack might do the trick.
@@MrAyrit also heard of turning off C1E from bios could remove the static, but if the dac amp fixes it then I won't bother, unless it's still worth doing
Thanks for the review of this! Was able to snag this for about $80, so pretty great value i think. But wanted to ask, if i connect the RCA outs to another amp (and plug in a headphone there), will the front headphone outs in the DX1 still output audio? Might be a weird question but this would be a use-case i would want. Thanks!
I haven’t tried the ua5. I believe I had the 4, but thought it was faulty, so never reviewed it. I see no reason why it wouldn’t work well with the variations.
Hey, I was wondering a few things: how does the dx1 compare to the ifi zen air? If I’m planning to only listen to IEMs, would a dongle dac like the truthear shio (which is 35 dollars cheaper) give me about the same sound quality?
Sorry, I haven’t heard the zen air, but I have an ifi uno-more musical to my ear. Hard to say with the dongle. You definitely won’t need additional power. I haven’t heard anything about the shio, but truthear seems to be making some pretty good stuff.
I don't see why it would be a problem. A lot of people never shut off their SS amps (me included). People often let things burn in for several days (tubes are another story though).
I'm new to all this trying to learn. I have a pair of Razer Nommo Pro speakers. They are like the Rolls Royce of the Razer brand as far as speakers go. I also want to purchase a pair of Bluetooth Focal Bathys. I know the headphones already have a DAC inside them. Do I need a DAC/amp for the speakers sake? Can I connect the BT headphones to a BT compatible DAC/amp so everything is connected into one place. If so, any suggestions? I currently have a GSX 1000 and used to have pair of Focal Celestees, but discovered I'm just not a wired guy. Now I'm a bit confused on what to do. I wanna replace the GSX 1000 as well because I purchased it used and there is a weird problem with it where it randomly makes a loud 'thump' sound out of nowhere. The same sound you get when saving settings on it, but in this case it just randomly goes off out of nowhere and scares the shit out of me. I do like have the volume wheel right in front of me though from the GSX 1000. So what equipment would you get if you were in my shoes? Thanks.
I gave my wife a Micca Origen for her desktop and she lost her mind over it. Now she uses the Koss KPH 30i headphones, which most audiophiles recognize as an anomoly in the headphone world. Yeah, cheaply made plastic headphones but they sound every bit as good as some two hundred dollar headphones I've owned. At any rate, I tried to upgrade her to the Zen Dac II and she slapped my hand away. She absolutely loves that little powerhouse.
Do you know if I'm able to use this for the ps5 without a converter? From the research I've done, the PS5 only supports UAC1 not UAC2. I dont know enough about this stuff to know which the topping dx1 is but maybe you do?
I don't have the 600 anymore. I think you'd probably be okay, but really you're probably going to want some more juice for those. You might look at the Fiio K7 if you want an all in one. Or really, something with a tube like the xduoo ta10r.
im curently looking for an amp for my hd650. I have found schiit magni as a recommendation but it is not available in my country. will Dx1 suffice to provide the same power to drive the hd650, make it much more louder?
I don't understand, maybe I'm doing something wrong or my ears are garbage? The first thing I bought was a Fosi Audio Q4 Mini. This DAC is three times cheaper... but it sounds 3 times better. what's the joke? The Fosi Audio Q4 Mini has a fatter and more powerful sound, the bass sounds much better, you can add or subtract. at the same time, the high ones are not bad... DX1 sounds a lot simpler to me. I listened to both on the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro (32 Ohm)
@@MrAyrit I'm not saying I disagree with you. I'm trying to understand.. maybe I haven't reached audiophile enlightenment yet?) because I've watched a lot of reviews on dx1, everyone praises it... That's why I bought it....but I expected something else....it sounds more neutral.
I wish I had heard the q4 so I could comment, but I haven't, so it's really difficult for me. I did just film a review on the fosi k5 pro, which looks like it is pretty similar to the q4, but with a mic input. I feel like if I was picking and didn't need the mic input, I would still probably take the dx1, because I found it to be just a touch tighter and cleaner, but again, all this is subjective.
I listen Sennheiser HD660s with Topping DX1. Actually a beast combo.

Nah, I think you'd be fine.

Good review. I have the IFI Hip DAC 2 and it broke down after two months of use, which will have better sound?

kinda a noob to dac/amps, but was hoping it would get rid of the static noises (especially when i move my mouse)
I would hope so.

Needless to say it did and it works amazingly, but is it still normal to get a subtle pop when I go to test the windows volume ?
@@SuperEjizz Sorry, can't comment on that
why didn't you include the schiit fulla in this comparison?
I don’t have one any more, but I think I’d probably take the dx1 for sound quality.

Ifi said they’d send one. Hopefully, it’ll be here soon.

Hello, can the Topping DX1 be use with active speakers like JBL 305P MKII? Can you control their volume? Thanks.
Likely a dumb question since I'm new to this kind of hardware, but can this be used with a headset (In-line mic with standard headphones)?
Not a dumb question. It cannot. You’ll want to look at something like the Fosi K5 or Schiit Fulla.
@@MrAyrit I appreciate the quick response! I'll try out the K5 and just use the splitter it comes with.
Can this dac/amp be used with studio monitor speakers (I use JBL 104-BT) or are they suitable only for headphones?
It’ll work with monitors.
maybe that's a stupid question. can I let Amplifier (Brooklyn Bridge) play for 20 hours? (This is about headphones burn in)
