Joe, I immediately subscribed to your channel the first time I heard you play. I'm 66 years old and have been around music my whole life. Your talent, humble personality and innate drive are what make superstars. Your honesty and ability to look at your life from 2,000 feet, is your key to growth and success. You have a beautiful fiance and I'm sure will have a beautiful family in time. Life is short and you certainly have, and will continue to make the sacrifices and decisions to make the most of it! Thanks for letting us come along for the ride!
What a beautiful story Joe. You really did the hard work, took the risks, and went for it with all you had. It's really inspiring, just like your playing.
Thank you Joe for sharing your wonderful and incredible success story…..WOW. I felt your humbleness and determination in your story that kept me “spell bound” as we say here in North Carolina. Love your picking. God Bless You!
Duuude, what a story. Made me smile, I had to learn the piano until I was 14, so I „borrowed“ my Dads guitar when he was at work to practice like crazy. Anyways, I found you a while ago on Spotify, you are my number one musician on the planet, love your songs and your technique. You ARE gifted, no doubt, but you also spent blood, sweat and tears to get there. Amazing man, respects ✊🏻
Great story on the value of making a solid commitment to do something. I have known Admirals, generals and fighter pilots who grew up 100 miles from a paved road and went to school in a one room school house. Being relatively free from a lot of modern distractions might be a key part of the recipe.
A story of determination, self belief, sacrifice, HARD WORK, passion. You are extremely good at your calling and craft, and I love listening to you. Great job mate! Congratulations! Thank you. God 🙏🏽 Bless
What an inspirational person & musician. I love it. And flair, focus & feedback. I will now want to practise more & be deliberate with my play & music. God bless & thank you 🥰🙏💖🎶🎯
Hey Joe, as an old rocker from the 70s, I have seen your TedX the other day, first time seeing you. WTF! Lad, you blew me away. I have found out you know Tommy E. who I also have met a few times here in PA, USA. Watching your technique is simply an amazing feat. With that, I am glad you were stuck in the outback "having" to learn your ass off. Which you have. Congrats to you! I look forward to meeting you one day. I have an apartment in NYC, Greenwich Village. Between myself and a close friend, we have around 80 vintage guitars. Chet Atkins is one of my favorite players, I have a few of his vintage Gretsches. My favorite being a 64 Chet Atkins Countryman. Which was also George Harrison's favorite. Seeing the young lads like yourself taking the guitar to these new levels is a mind-blower. For me, it was learning how Jimmy Page tuned up for songs like The Rain Song and Black Water Slide, or Black waterside, originally by Bert Jansch, who I also got to know back in 1980s in San Francisco. Those were tough tunes to work out. Now, 40 years later, to see your talent at playing such quickly laid out melodies is mindblowing. Tell Tommy I said hey, and look forward to seeing the both of you one day, touring the states, here... Oh, that's right, your in Nashville!! Well, I know a bunch of players down in town there. So one day I may tap you on the shoulder and request a lesson in 21st Century Guitar!!! Enjoy... The sky's the limit, Brother!
I love Nashville, used to live there. I saw your first vid, rocking around the Christmas tree, love it. You're playing reminded me of Tommy's. Lol and behold, u know them. You're blessed bro. I really enjoy your playing. Lots of people that u mentioned I've listened to..esp Chet, Jerry, Tommy..so on. Keep playing! Your skill really shows..I "feel" the music.
You're not only one of the most incredible guitar players I have ever heard, but your perceptions and equation for success are astounding. Your success route could carry over into any field... sports, writing, teaching, etc. You will be a role model for young people just like yourself. You are my number one guitar hero young man. God bless you.
Great story Joe and such an inspiring one. I'm still playing guitar after 50 years and still in love with it. Saw the Emmanuel Bros back in the 80s and was an instant fan. And it's great that they mentored you because that's the magnanimous nature of their craft and yours. Sometimes , as you say, difficulty can drive us to follow our passions and life that we lead. Fortune favours the brave. All the best to you. You are a brilliant player and I've seen lots of great ones. Thank you. Best , from "down under".
You probably dont care but if you guys are stoned like me during the covid times then you can watch all of the new movies and series on InstaFlixxer. Have been watching with my brother during the lockdown xD
I loved your story! It is the story of a young man with a lot of Determination, Discipline, Will Power, and Courage ! God Bless you Joe. You’re such an inspiration for so many Young Players ! Keep Up the good work.
Very inspirational and shows just what you can accomplish if you put your mind to it. Don't ever let anyone tell you "you can't do it" for any reason.Great video !
Hi Joe, Thanks so much for sharing your story. I loved the story, it reminds me of my childhood, I grew up in NSW too in the bush. Unfortunately I didn't have the opportunities that I needed. I'm a singer learning guitar later in life, I've been talking with Anthony Snape and lots of Australian artists and my goal is to be good enough to go to Nashville and write songs and perform. I have recently completed a Co-write with an Aussie artist who has the National number 1 and top 5 plays internationally. So I have a long way to go but I need to work harder like you have. I wish you a the best and I hope you have some awesome shows with Phil and Tommy Emmanuel and many others. You truly are incredible mate 🤠🎤🎵🎸👏👏🇭🇲
Cool story man. Good for you for not letting them pressure you. I really dig your music kid. I think you're one of those rare people who has the drive and talent to achieve your dreams. Beat of luck to you.
Just wooooooow man, you talk about being inspired, omg! You stuck to your guns and structured your life around your music and successfully pulled it off 😎 kudos
You're a real inspiration mate. I admire your tenacity. I'm gonna learn from your example and set up a practice routine for myself. I'm 32 this year, my baby daugher is 1 y.o and I picked up the guitar specifically so I could play all the Chet Atkins tunes like Windy & Warm, Wheels, Baby Coming Home to my daughter & show her the wonderful world of thumb picking. Hell, maybe she'll find it cool enough and make a name for herself like u did.
Joe, I just watched this one, thanks for making this. It’s always cool and interesting to hear how someone rises above challenges. I noticed your book collection in the back. Don’t forget to keep making your book videos. It’s interesting what grabs peoples interest. You should read Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace. Oh, and also, Confederacy Of Dunce's by JK Toole. But the trick with that one is you have to hear the audio book because the narrator brings it to life. It’s on RUclips. By the way, just saw Billy Strings in Sacramento. Really great show. Would love to see you two jam. Tommy Emmanuel probably has the connect to make that happen. Marcus King is another one. Antonio Rey and Philip Sayce ! Hope to see you on the road again soon Joe!
Joe, thanks for everything you do to provide us with not only music but story. I think, what we can all get from your story, is just persevering through your goals. No matter what they are, we can’t be swayed by the things that steers us away from our goals, even if it provides monetary values beyond what our own dreams can provide. Glad you didn’t sign the contract obviously but more happy that you paved the way and not take “the easy way out”. I’m like a big believer in “choices dictates the future”. You may not have met Genevieve if you had signed that contract many years ago and your Nashville dreams would definitely be pushed back. Much love, Joe, and I hope (when this COVID virus gets controlled) to travel to see you play and talk it up again.
Loved this video Joe. I discovered you when you opened for Tommy Emmanuel a few years ago in Northampton, Mass. I had no idea who you were until that show. You blew me away that night. We spoke very briefly when I bought one of your CD's in the lobby, and I've been a big fan ever since. My favorite part of this video is how you kept refusing to sign their stock contract; love it!
Great story, well-told. I love how the title suggests this is a story about Joe Robinson, but in fact it's as much about your parents, friends, inspirations, and role models who inspired and supported you as it is about you. hi joe.You are my favorite guitar player. Your work has given me strength and imagination many times. It filled me with confidence when I was confused. I look forward to the improvement of the epidemic and you can come to China to perform. I hope you will take care of your health.😀😀😀😀
Great story Joe, amazing determination, congratulations. I also love and play guitar here in Chile. I introduced you to my family and friends. They all love your playing. Congratulations. I enjoy watching you play and singing is very good a great complement to playing.
Seems so long ago now. The footage of your win is a favourite of mine for the image of your grandparents Barbara and Bob, so ecstatic for you. No doubt in my mind they were your biggest fans. Sad they’re not here to see you now but you’re still doing them proud 👍
One of the best motivational videos I’ve ever watched! You deserve everything that you get for the hard work that you’ve done but the fact that your doing exactly what you want to do and loving it is priceless. Keep climbing!
@@Joe_Robinson let me know if you do. I’ll let you know the best places to visit. Just make sure that you plan your trip between November and May. The summer months are extremely hot and humid. Would be awesome if you could perform at Dubai Opera!
Inspirational. Don't sell yourself short. You WERE that great. And that you had the balls to stand up to SONY as well as a TV production company… I know the industry and a few bands who are friends of mine were screwed by Atlantic (among others). Do your whatever you can to catch Richard Johnston doing his one-man-band gig in front of the New Dixie all the way down the road.
Inspirational. I share your videos as they come up on Facebook, and my friends' comments are uniformly raves. What a great story. So that is how you did it. I will have to show m son this. He`s 14. Unfortunately I have a hard time getting him off his phone to practice his guitar.

Do you realize that your face just lights up when you talk about music? :) It is absolutely amazing that your passion and obsession started when you were so young. You have put so much time and energy into your craft, it's not much of a surprise that you continue to improve. I'm trying to imagine how you will be playing in a few more years lol Anyway, you have yourself a faithful fan here (and I'm not the only one ). I've always loved listening to all kinds of music, but I was never very familiar with the fingerpicking style. So when I came across some of your videos, you introduced me to a whole new world of music that I have come to love. Thank you so much for that. Sorry this is so long :) Love to you and Gen!! xx
What a great story. Seeing all your hard work and dedication from such a young age come to fruition is so inspiring. (I'm twice your age!) We love your music and your style of playing, and we are really looking forward to seeing you live here in Illinois next week!
Have no clue how I stumbled across your video but so glad I did. Extremely motivating, getting up at 4am to practise before school hit hard man. Subbed for more.

Joe, I love these types of story videos. Please keep them coming. Obviously enjoy the playing too no doubt. These story style videos are so watchable here on youtube though. Cant wait for the next one. (Nice cliff hanger with the 'that's for another video though')
Temagog, huh? The father of my best friend at KHS designed Berthold Bridge. Loving your passion in this video. Congrats on your very well-earned success.
