My relationship with this series has been a bit of a wild ride, and I have you to thank for it. Way, way back in... 1999? 2000? I bought a copy of King's Field (KF2 JP), and... I hated it. The beginning was too hard, the controls were weird ("L2/R2 to look up and down? Whaaaaaaat?"), and I just totally bounced off the game. Flash forward 20+ years later, the RUclips algorithm gods decided to put your KF2 magic only run in my front page, and my reaction was basically "huh... I didn't like that game at all, but I do like watching challenge runs of old, janky-ass games. Maybe I'll have a look." And you did such a great job showing off the game that I went "hey, this game actually looks kind of cool. Did I miss out?" So I hooked up my PS3, popped in KF2, and... I loved it. I'm not sure what about me changed in 20 years (though playing a bunch of Souls games might have something to do with it), but this time I was totally into the game, exploring, making progress, and just being totally immersed in one of the most atmospheric PS1 games ever made. After that, I decided to play the other 2 PS1 KF games "any way I can" (to borrow a phrase from SNESDrunk). KF3 was next, and I loved that game even more. I even got a fan translation for the original KF and played through that, and while it's not quite as good as the others, that's to be expected given it was literally FromSoft's first game ever. And really, it's still pretty good for the time it comes from. Finally, I ended up buying a legit used copy of KF:TAC for $90 (retro game prices are freaking crazy sometimes), and it was worth every penny. Easily one of the best PS2 games ever, and that's quite the accomplishment considering just how many gems that console has. So yeah, I went from hating KF to being a huge KF fan, and it's all because of you. Seriously, thank you so much for showing everyone how great these games are. Now if only we could get FromSoft to do modern remakes of these games. Seriously, we live in a world where The Last of Us Part 2 got a remaster like a year after it came out, but these games never got any? Ridiculous.
Also, you made this one really tense by counting your mushrooms and letting the viewer know the depth of looming despair. And yes, "yote" sounds right.
Just finished watching, the whole video was a treat.🖤 I for one am a big fan of the alliteration and i hope to hear more. As a woman I nearly didnt make it through... but thankfully you mentioned the Light House, saved the whole video for me. Fantastic content, looking forward to the next one.
Believe it or not, there are spiders that can spit web...called spitting spiders. They seem like they should be something out of fantasy/sci-fi. A particular species is also consider "presocial," where the older spider share food with younger ones. Anyways, you can probably guess where I am in the video. I'll keep watching :)
Very good and worth the wait. Now I await your Lost Kingdoms video/videos! Then maybe Otogi? Maybe circle back to PS2 and do some Evergrace/Forever Kingdom? And of course can't forget Cookie and Cream (lol). Oh, and Thousand Land (double lol).
Glad you’re back. And I’m glad you put this one to rest at last. For the journey alone, I think it’s worth overlooking the 2%. Always love your content, be well and I look forward to your next video.
1:19:28: no, no it's even worse, he just turns into a fully-fledged widda when you do! there's even an unused version of a widda still wearing his armor
It’s really cool seeing a showcase of most of the magic in the game. Most playthroughs I’ve seen have been magic-light and melee heavy. I’d love to see an analysis of what monsters are actually weak to what elements. Otherwise, I don’t think I’d ever use dark magic in battle. What can I say, I’m a sucker for magic and cool spell effects. Kinda wish some of Eternal Ring’s magic system was implemented with this game world and this game’s spells.
another great classic From challenge. I'm working on a RetroAchievements set for this right now, I wish I had your Eternal Ring vid to work from when I made that one lmao. thanks!!
Gaining access to the blue fountain near the forest temple seems absolutely crucial to get anywhere in this run... You have to skip a lot of unnecessary enemies and kill only the most crucial as there aren't a ton of mushrooms available...
58:14 You can push them into the lava pool, but... just don't. It's not worth the trouble. I may have commented about it on your previous attempt at this challenge. 1:21:14 Love the timing of mask's spell here. It's like a final attempt at your life. 😂 Awesome to see you complete this series even if it meant cheating a bit! Do you have any plans for PS1 Shadow Tower at some point?
@@almar9738 ahh okay. Well i’m sorry i forgot the previous convo we had about it if you commented before.😅 Shadow tower ps1 i will look at someday in the distant future but i don’t have concrete plans atm.
Ohhhhh, i never knew you could cancel fall damage with a crystal... i always just started a new game, then would grind levels on the man traps (usually punching them to grind unarmed skill levels at the same time) until i had enough HP to survive the fall.
another point against the "100% male" audience here, tho like many women i don't give google much of my personal info so it probably just ignores me for the youtube analytics.
I can assure you, your audience isn't 100% male. In fact, I wanted to thank you. I'm a trans woman who got started on HRT almost a year ago, and the hormones messed with my ADHD and general mental stability a lot. It's a lot better now, but in the beginning it was hell. One of the things that helped during these times were your vids. I always wanted to learn more about the King's Field games, and seeing these challenge runs that are well edited and narrated with such a soothing voice really hit the spot for me. Your content has become comfort media for me by now, and I keep rewatching all your challenge runs. This here was just another treat for me. It was so fun to watch, and I learned so many new things (after a failed attempt of my own a while back of just playing the game) Thank you so so much for the work that you! I hope you continue with it, keep having fun with it, and I'll buy you a coffee or fifteen sometime soon 💜
