Hey there. I was a full-time student, part-time server for 4.5 years before I graduated (I too served at Olive Garden). I live in Georgia where the wages are also peanuts. It is definitely doable and a smart situation to be in because like you said--you can make sufficient money in less time than other jobs--time that you can allocate to studies. It is mentally taxing, but you got this.
I kinda of feel your pain, Im a back line cook at olive Graden. I see and hear how you servers are treated. I have seen servers in tears before, some guests will skip out on paying their bill. Hopefully you have good managers to work with, the mangers at my store are so so. Keep up the good fight, of school and work!
The reason why you may owe taxes, as a server, is bc of your cash tips. Your cash tips are not getting taxed. By claiming your tips, you're acknowledging (i.e.: notifying the IRS) that you've received money (for a service) that hasn't been taxed. How much you make throughout the year determines how much in taxes you have to pay. If you overpaid, you get a refund. If you didn't pay enough, you owe.
Don't listen to haters. Stay focused and do what you need to do in order to get ahead. Your videos are helpful😊

Love your content! I worked at Olive Garden in Virginia and made BANK but had almost $2,500 in taxes!! It’s wild!!! My favorite job ever.

I make the same wage $2.13 an hr. I work the same hrs 10:30pm-4pm (Tues-Sat), tip pool, and live great.

If you worked California you would get tips plues. $16 bucks a hour but again taxes here are very high but you would still make a lot more here
