Honestly couldnt have picked a much better movie for your first cruise film. Edge of tomorrow is an amazing sci-fi flick and is 100% underrated. It's easily one of my favorite sci-fi films of all time.
One of my favourite action movies. The pacing is just perfect, there is not a single boring scene. Watched it at the cinema in 3D back then and about 10 times since then. It's such a blast and I still can recommend it to friends and watch it with people who haven't seen it yet, because it is so underrated. 😁Also part 2 has been confirmed!
"It gives me the total vibe of a video game" YES! This is exactly what the original author was going for. It's like having a save point in a video game where you can just to back and do everything better and better each time.
@@markwilson7013 I think was referring to a Rogue Lite. Rogue Lite games utilize some, but not all of the design elements of Rogue; usually the ones they add are things that allow you to save or carry over some progression. But the death and restart mechanic is still core to the game. Rogue Like game are usually a lot closer mechanically to Rogue. But are graphically newer.
This is one of THE most underrated sci-fi movies ever. IT’s especially crazy cause those exo suites are actually real and weighed like over 80lbs. Also Emily Blunt as captain marvel is my preferred timeline lol 😂
Another TC underated movie is "Minority Report". Amazing story, futuristic, and a bit mind bending. Saw it in the movies and didn't know anything about it going it. It's really, really good.
Of course it was awesome It is from the mind of Philip K. Dick. (Blade Runner, Total Recall, A Scanner Darkly, Man in the High Castle, etc) AND Directed by Steven Spielberg

I haven't laughed this hard at a reaction in a LONG time! Dude, this movie is SO underrated, and it was a blast to watch you experience it for the first time having literally NO idea what was going on. And the fact that you totally called the end of the movie second before it happened had me LOLing! Keep it up, my dude.
This was always a super underrated movie. It totally flew under the radar at the time. Another one with Cruise that came out right around the same time and also flew under the radar, also is underrated and is also a sci fi movie is Oblivion.
she didn't know who he was every time he woke up. it just didn't show him getting her on his side. i'd imagine that after the hundreds of times he's done it he's gotten pretty good at it by the last time at the end of the movie.
He does not have to say much to convince her. She knows what it is like to reset and spent the entire time since Verdun waiting for someone else who can do it.
@@przemekkozlowski7835 that ought to be obvious, i just figure with how good he's gotten at everything that is immensely difficult he'd blow her off her feet at this point.
He didn't need to say much to convince her the first time, she accepted it immediately. In fact, truly the first time he didn't say anything, it was her to recognised it from the way he was anticipating things, he didn't even know he needed to tell her until she told him to. There's no reason to believe it would take more effort for her to understand now, honestly if he just said "We did it." she'd get it from the context of the "mysterious" victory.
This film is totally underrated; Cruise and Blunt were a great casting for this film. Emily also happened to be pregnant while filming so I consider her one tough mamma! ❤
Watched this yet again a few days ago on 3D Blu-ray...it is pure eye candy and a brilliant example of how good 3D can look. It also has an incredible surround sound mix that gives your subs a thorough workout. Oblivion is another brilliant Sci-fi movie worth checking out.
Honestly, this movie needs to be talked about more. It's by far my favourite Tom Cruise movie (well, ok other than Top Gun and Maverick). And it's got such a great storyline, fantastic acting and that scene with Emily Blunt... Damn. Just dayummnn... I can't believe people haven't heard of this movie. I'm hoping that whoever watches this reaction will go take the time to watch the movie in its entirety because it's worth it.
Tom Cruise doing his own stunts is both awesome and crazy/stupid. He gets seriously injured on a fairly regular basis. He did a scene in a mission impossible movie that required his character to hold his breath underwater for six minutes, and so in real life he trained to hold his breath for SIX FREAKIN MINUTES.
He was recently beaten. Sigourney Weaver did 6 minute 30 seconds and Kate Winslet did 7 minutes 15 seconds in Avatar: The Way of the Water. Winslet may be 13 years younger but Weaver matched him and is 13 years older than he is - so you can bet he is going to try again in the next movie with water.
The action in this movie is so good, so visually clear and meaningful. No flashy bullshit, every explosion in shot had a purpose. It felt like a near-death experience for me so many times, especially the first drop. It also plays with some really interesting concepts around epistemic communication. For instance, knowing her middle name is essentially a password or a seed key that implies a certain level of trust. Knowing the symbolic subtext of information for another person could allow you to communicate 'backwards in time'.
For anyone interested where the concept was taken from, this movie was created as a sort of adaptation of the light novel "All you need is kill" written by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. They took the base concept of re-living the same day over and over, trying to find salvation and win a war and wrote this movie.
Ther'es also a manga adaptation that was done before the movie. They end differently (I'll just say I like the movie neding better) but it's also really good, plus has a special value to me.
Dudee i watched this movie 10 times. Extremely well made. The pacing. The CGI. The acting. The actors. The story. Everything is insanely good. The feeling i get from this movie is the same with Avengers Infinity War. Every second is keeping me on the edge of the seat. 10/10 Well done to every single soul that worked on this masterpiece.
I am watching this movie vicariously again through your eyes. It’s was such a brilliant film, each repeat of the day was balanced perfectly with just the right amount changes that kept it extremely engaging. The pacing was spot on, it felt completely original. I have watched it 15, maybe 20 times I would put it in my top 20 movies of all time.
@@kamikazelemming1552 Eyy I say we leave people be and if it does it for him, then it ain't my place to judge. Im sure Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, e.t.c were all weird to most people at some point in time until they weren't.
For actors that do their own stunts, I view it in the same way as actors who can sing and dance for musicals. Both kinds of movies require big bombastic moments that use a lot of movement, choreography, and sound design. If an actor can do the stuff required for that scene without needing a stunt or voice double, then it makes the scene feel more authentic.
Being able to have the actual actor in full-frame action sequences rather than only in close-up inserts just makes everything flow better. There's a reason why Jackie Chan movies work so well, you still can't fake that gut feeling of seeing a scene and thinking "oh, wow, they actually really did just do that thing for reals, there's no fakery there".
If you like Tom Cruise, which it seems like you do, the Mission Impossible Series (easily the most popular movies that Tom Cruise is in), is very good. This summer will be the final movie release, so if you watch them from start to finish, you could probably finish them right around the time the final one releases, giving you the full experience.
if you like the concept of this movie you have to watch Groundhog Day with Bill Murray from 1993. It´s a comedy but similar in concept (just without aliens and scifi)
He's a fantastic actor that gets somewhat of a bad rap because his personal life has always been a bit looney. But yeah, he's definitely got the craft down, he's got surprisingly good range, and he also is huge on doing his own stunts. I totally respect the guy.
I only caught this movie on Prime last year and wondered how I had missed it! Easily one of my favourite sci-fi films and certainly underrated. Great reaction.
Let's all take a moment to celebrate the great Bill Paxton, who somehow made it into this movie, plus "The Terminator," "Aliens," "True Lies," "Tombstone," "Apollo 13," and "Titanic." Dude is the lucky rabbit's foot of cinema. IMO, this is the best Cruise film outside of MI. But he has a lot of good films, and two more excellent scifi films: "Minority Report" and "Oblivion." "War of the Worlds" is worth watching too.
@@dianaklien1560 Tom has done so many movies it sometimes helps to break them up into categories. "The Last Samurai," though, is pretty much by itself, isn't it? Maybe "Valkyrie" would be in the same group of historical war movies. I haven't seen that one, but I noticed it is rated higher than "The Last Samurai," which surprises me, as a lot of people think that one is pretty good.
@@SG-js2qn There are two Tom Cruise movies that I put in my will watch again (and again) category: Edge of Tomorrow and The Last Samurai and that is how they are grouped together for me. But, I can see how you say Samurai is its own thing.
People can say what they want about Tom Cruise, but the man understands cinema like no one else. Top to bottom, every aspect. He’s really a brilliant guy.
My wife and I have this movie as our 'go to' movie whenever we can't decide on one. The only movie that you can rewatch 20 times and not be bored. I've forced at least 10-15 people to watch this movie and all of them loved it
This movie does such a good job of not repeating the same thing too much but whenever they do it gives us a new indication about how many times the main character has done it already it's awesome
This movie is so underrated because they really didn’t market right but a lot of people have seen by now and found a gem of a movie! I saw it in the theater, it was awesome🙌Tom starts out just a coward and spineless compared to those he helps go to war by going on the news but by the end he redeemed his character and becomes a hero!
This was one of my favorite movies. It reminds me of Groundhog Day (with Bill Murry)! A classic comedy where Bill Murry is a Weatherman and thinks he is better than everyone else. He is forced to broadcast in Punxsutawney, PA. for the Groundhog, and hates it. He wakes up everyday and re-lives the same day over and over again, until her get's it right. It's a comedy and had some romantics in it. It's a good movie with he GF/Wife.
If the plan is to watch more Tom Cruise over time and the action at some point becomes a bit stale or if a break is needed, A Few Good Men is arguably one of Cruise's best performances, plus Jack Nicholson and one of the best monologues in film history
Jack's monologue in A Few Good Men is sooo good. Right now the only ones that come to mind that beat it are Ellen Burstyn in Requiem for a Dream and Willem Dafoe in The Lighthouse. And also Bruce Greenwood talking about lemonade in Fall of the House of Usher, episode 3.
The ending of this movie is just perfect. It tells you exactly how it´s going to be with just his short laugh and immediate cut to "Love me again" I love this movie so much and this happy ending is WELL deserved
The score is so good. It hits when it needs, builds tons of tension, is dark, moody when needed. It is so underrated tbh and really fits so well. It’s also sparse so when it does come in you pay attention
Truly an underrated movie. I've seen it a few times, I really like the idea of resetting time like that. I'm very impressed that he does his own stunts. Matt Damon did an interview where he said that Tom Cruise's safety guy told him it was too dangerous to do one stunt so he went and hired a different safety guy. I guess he loves the adrenaline rush.
I really love this movie. It is so fun, and the chemistry between the actors is amazing. After watching and enjoying it, I really got to thinking about the deeper implications of the relationship between Cage and Rita. It is really beautiful and tragic at the same time. Cage has spent months, maybe years with her. He has fallen in love with her, and he has to watch her die over and over again. Because she once had the ability, she understands this. She knows that he has been through so much with her and that he is in love with her. She isn't completely closed off to the idea, but of course she just met him this morning. It's a wonderful narrative structure. There is a scene where Rita sincerely asks "Why does it matter what happens to me?" and Cage replies "I wish I didn't know you... but I do." Very impactful.
She's been through it...and she knows love is futile until a future is assured by defeating the alien attack. The way Blunt carries-off such a feminine but steely character is awesome.
@@philproffitt8363 It is Blunt. For me she's one of the best in the industry right now, and i think she's one of the only ones who can pull these kind of characters off, her dislike of strong female characters probably helped to bring Rita's feminine qualitie's to the forefront.
Impossible to know how many days it took, a very detailed post (that i cannot find) i read ages ago, worked out at around 1500 days. The thing with the ending, Rita at that point, will have still been through the time loop, at the battle of verdun. So Cage at this point would have no problem explaining what had just happened, as she is one of 2 people that would understand.
I love it! It's actually one of my comfort movies as far as action films go. And even though she doesn't remember him at the end, she still remembers Verden, so if he tells her what happened she'll believe him. And they all got their second chance ))
Not only did he do his own stunts, but the exoskeleton armors were real and very heavy, with a bit of CGI thrown in to make them shoot guns and stuff. Apparently, Emily hated that part of shooting the movie.
Seeing the thumbnail of you reacting to a Tom Cruise movie was the highlight of my day. He's amazingly talented, and yes, he does all of his stunts. There is a clip on youtube showing how he broke an ankle jumping from one roof to another. Plus, he learned to, and flies the jets in the Top Gun movies. And then there's the training and jump he did of a cliff on a motorcycle. I could go on and on. I sure hope you'll be doing a lot more of Tom's movies.
Granades under water. The word Burning is usually used for things that combust (usually a chemical reactions which releases heat) and happens relatively slowly often requiring oxygen in the ambient air to Burn. Explosion is a word used for something that burns much quicker, usually the explosive has both the fuel and oxidizer mixed together already. Road flares, grenades, solid rockets and explosives work like that. Gasoline explosions, the Moab (like the Jericho in Iron Man) are air burst explosions and do use ambient oxygen.
OK, this was an EXTREMELY good pick for your first TC movie!!! It is BIBLICALLY underrated IMO. Think your next one should be The Last Samurai, the acting and scenery is so good in that movie. There are quite a few really really good movies of his, but one that most people haven't seen is Legend. If memory serves it was his first lead role! And to this day, it has the ABSOLUTE best on screen devil I have seen. Tim Curry put his foot so far up that rolls arse there still feeling it 38 years later!
@Alex Hefner Vrataski never remembered him on ANY of the repeats... meeting her was as much part of his repeated routine as meeting Sgt Farrel every "day"... its just that he could shortcut and summarize the meeting because Vrataski understands whats going on. For him he meets her 300 times. For her, she's never seen him before "today". Killing the Omega (and getting its blood on himself and dying) set the day all the way back to the beginning of the movie, hours further than usual... and then he meets herbfor time number 301 (or however many), but once again, she's meeting him for the first time. In that regard, he might feel some type of way, but she wouldnt have any reason to, she hasnt had 2 days of fierce battle alingside him yet, and now that it's over and reset, never will. Kind of tragic in a way.
"... because Vrataski understands whats going on." Right. "Sgt. Vrataski, what happened to you at Verdun happened to me tomorrow. ... _will_ happen, whatever."
I’m a bit late but this is based of a Japanese novel. I didn’t read it but what i read instead is the Manga, it got adapted into Manga (Japan comic) and the Mimics is like thick round oyster with spikes so bullets is useless only melee weapons and pail drive. And exoskeleton won’t do. Their armor is like Samus Matroid armor. The ending is Vita die and Keiji A.K.A. Cage live on. Bringing Vita back and kissing scene is just a Hollywood move. P.S. the reset is 24 hours. The Omega (movie only) 36 hours for plot convenience.
Great reaction. If you like Tom, check out his other films. I'm partial to The Last Samurai. Also, another movie you may enjoy is Groundhog Day with Bill Murray.
This is one of my favorite recent (relatively speaking) sci fi movies. You're so lucky to have seen it without knowing anything, so it really took you by surprise. Some other great sci fi movies in the last 20 years are Serenity, the spin off of the Firefly TV series, but it stands up on its own, and Outlander, not be confused with the show. It combines sci fi with vikings, and it rocks.

Tom Cruise is one of my favorite actors, because he always brings 200% to every role, and seems to genuinely enjoy entertaining and making great movies, and I do not care what anyone says... he is freaking awesome!
Add Days of Thunder to your Tom Cruise list. As weird as he may be as a person, the dude is diverse as hell with his acting. He can do fun campy movies, action, fantasy, rom-coms, drama, and historical, and lets not forget his most memorable cameo in trooic thunder.
Another one thats really good he stars in is Oblivion, its so off the wall like this one, I had to watch it a couple times to totally get it (I didn't get this one fully either the first time). Love seeing your happy face Alex, you pump up my energy every time I watch your videos...Thank you!!
Oblivion was not a bad movie. I enjoyed it. But, it felt like a really high quality "B movie". Just everything about it seemed as though it had already been done, slightly better, in other movies. Just in the sci-fi genre, I would rate Minority Report as a better Cruz movie. Again, Oblivion wasn't bad.
Edge of Tomorrow is my #1 favorite movie of all time. I've seen it at least 30 times. My favorite moment is when he wakes up a veteran with PTSD and everybody notices it and reacts to it non-verbally. Unbelievable movie. They're even talking about sequel because apparently Cage now has the full power direct from the Omega.

His beliefs aside, I think he’s an incredible actor as far as skill and dedication. I think it’s unbelievable that he does his own stunts but also extremely foolish. Impressive and foolish. @@MrAngerius bro stunt people arent paid as much as Tom fuckin Cruise. If anything its more expensive because insuring him is probably astronomically more expensive.

Just scrolling down the list of top rated films he has starred in (and often has a direct hand in developing) it boggles the mind that one individual has had such an amazing track record of success.

Cruises little laugh at the end was perfect to me. It was - "I'm so happy to be done with that nightmare. I'm so glad you're alive. We have been through so much together and where tf do I even begin..."
an example of his ability to act which tbh I often overlook. Those tears in his eyes at the very last second

I think it's supposed to be the payoff for the foreshadowing when Emily Blunt's character says she wished she had gotten to know him. Now they can.
Referred to as a Rogue Lite.
It’s based on a manga series.
I was like, damn, he got that quick.
@@archangelgabriel5316You generally don't get save reloads in a Rogue Like
@@markwilson7013 I think was referring to a Rogue Lite.
Also Emily Blunt as captain marvel is my preferred timeline lol 😂
still a bossy strong woman, just doesnt sit with me
Another TC underated movie is "Minority Report". Amazing story, futuristic, and a bit mind bending. Saw it in the movies and didn't know anything about it going it. It's really, really good.
yeah agree its a must watch
Of course it was awesome
It is from the mind of Philip K. Dick. (Blade Runner, Total Recall, A Scanner Darkly, Man in the High Castle, etc)

Yes, one of my all time favorites.
This and Children of Men were so badly marketed, no one ever saw these gems. Pure gems.

This is one of those movies I didn't expect much from. It's now one of the rare movies I actually get a urge to rewatch every few years.
“I’ve never seen a movie like this before. I love how original and unique it is” well, I’m guessing Groundhog Day is another movie Alex hasn’t seen 😆
I think I remember Alex saying once that anything starring Bill Murray was also something he had missed.
I was thinking the same thing lol. Boss Level and Palm Springs are some other good time loop movies.
And Happy death day.
I was about to comment this almost word for word LMAO
Source Code is another great Sci-Fi looper
You picked a pretty good TC movie to start with. This movie is critically underrated.
This movie is probably in my top 20 films of all time list. Tom Cruise makes great films, regardless of the weird religion he is in.
I mean it's pretty well rated, it's just almost 10 years old now so you don't hear much people talking about it It lol
@@HQofrandom this movie wasnt even talked about when it came out. Most people dont even know it exists.
Winslet may be 13 years younger but Weaver matched him and is 13 years older than he is - so you can bet he is going to try again in the next movie with water.
actually 11 minutes lol
He's only been injured once to my knowledge, breaking his ankle on Fallout.
tell it to Jackie Chan😁
Or Buster Keaton.
The movie that Tom Cruise was in that raised my attention was Tropic Thunder! I couldn't believe it was Tom Cruise playing Les Grossman!
@@rodrigoespinoza4833 I’ve got the manga too. Have yet to read it though hahah
I love that they made a version of his name similar to the japanese character- Cage, coming from "Keiji"
Yeah the manga take the concept from the "Groundhog Day" movie whit Bill Murray
and they did a bloody good job :)
This is actually an underrated movie and its based on a Japanese manga called "All you need is kill"
I am watching this movie vicariously again through your eyes. It’s was such a brilliant film, each repeat of the day was balanced perfectly with just the right amount changes that kept it extremely engaging. The pacing was spot on, it felt completely original. @@TJ-bi4zo why do you think that?
One of the most underrated films ever. I'd never heard of it when I randomly decided to watch it one day. It quickly became one of my favorite movies
"War of the Worlds", "The Last Samurai", and "Valkyrie" are all great tom cruise movies. He honestly is one of the greatest actors in my opinion.
Don't forget Tropic Thunder!
@@dekulruno he didn't really have a big role in it, but he was funny.
Rain man is probably my favorite after Last Samurai and this one.
He's a fantastic actor that gets somewhat of a bad rap because his personal life has always been a bit looney.
But yeah, he's definitely got the craft down, he's got surprisingly good range, and he also is huge on doing his own stunts. I totally respect the guy.
uhh, Collateral ??? Hello ??
Top Gun is a Classic Tom Cruise movie, but the SEQUEL Top Gun Maverick is a GENUINELY good movie, highly reccommend!
I only caught this movie on Prime last year and wondered how I had missed it! Easily one of my favourite sci-fi films and certainly underrated. Great reaction.
WAR OF THE WORLDS brother.....THE FIRM is another badass flick
Let's all take a moment to celebrate the great Bill Paxton, who somehow made it into this movie, plus "The Terminator," "Aliens," "True Lies," "Tombstone," "Apollo 13," and "Titanic." Dude is the lucky rabbit's foot of cinema.
IMO, this is the best Cruise film outside of MI. But he has a lot of good films, and two more excellent scifi films: "Minority Report" and "Oblivion." "War of the Worlds" is worth watching too.
Yes, I miss Bill Paxton and enjoyed his roles! As for best Tom Cruise film don’t forget The Last Samurai.

The film was an anime before it was a film, its called "All you need is kill", it pretty good.
Yea they give you the feel that it happened far more times then they actually show, but cut it in a way so it's not gonna get annoying.
You should watch teenage dystopia movies like: The Hunger Games, Maze runner, etc
I love how the movie ends with Tom Cruise smiling. Always a pleasant sight 🤗
If the plan is to watch more Tom Cruise over time and the action at some point becomes a bit stale or if a break is needed, A Few Good Men is arguably one of Cruise's best performances, plus Jack Nicholson and one of the best monologues in film history
Collateral will throw him for a loop because it's not typical Cruise.
@@RSpracticalshooting YES. This is the comment I was looking for.

Great Movie....Emily Blunt is great as always. Such a versatile actress.
Nailed it.
@@ambrosiogiovanni6952 Not strong, 'strong' (ie. Mary Sue).
I couldn't be happier that this was the movie you decided to check out as your first slice of Tom Cruise. Truly underrated gem
I sure hope you'll be doing a lot more of Tom's movies.
he flies some of the planes in top gun but the navy wouldn't let him fly the F 18 though he did ask lol
you can even see the take where he broke his foot in the movie, they used it for the actual movie
One of my absolute favorites. It's on my watch again and again list. Glad you found it. I'm enjoying watching you watch it. Such joy!
Gasoline explosions, the Moab (like the Jericho in Iron Man) are air burst explosions and do use ambient oxygen.
the last samurai is what i'd recommend next from his movies
it's iffy on historical details, but it's a fantastic movie
OK, this was an EXTREMELY good pick for your first TC movie!!! It is BIBLICALLY underrated IMO. Think your next one should be The Last Samurai, the acting and scenery is so good in that movie. There are quite a few really really good movies of his, but one that most people haven't seen is Legend. If memory serves it was his first lead role! And to this day, it has the ABSOLUTE best on screen devil I have seen. Tim Curry put his foot so far up that rolls arse there still feeling it 38 years later!
A Few Good men is a fantastic movie, script by Aaron Sorkin, directed by Rob Reiner and one of Cruises best non-action films.
@Alex Hefner
Vrataski never remembered him on ANY of the repeats... meeting her was as much part of his repeated routine as meeting Sgt Farrel every "day"... its just that he could shortcut and summarize the meeting because Vrataski understands whats going on.
"... because Vrataski understands whats going on."
Right.
This movie is underrated asf glad you’re watching it!
Great reaction. If you like Tom, check out his other films. I'm partial to The Last Samurai. Also, another movie you may enjoy is Groundhog Day with Bill Murray.
one of my favs. If Sci-Fi is your flav check out Oblivion and Minority Report

The Last Samurai was a masterpiece.
Top Gun wasn't even mentioned at the start. I'm not mad, just disappointed.
Cruise is awesome. So is Edge of Tomorrow
I REALLY liked Oblivion myself, I thought it had great actors in it also.
Edge of Tomorrow is my #1 favorite movie of all time. I've seen it at least 30 times. My favorite moment is when he wakes up a veteran with PTSD and everybody notices it and reacts to it non-verbally.

Doing his own stunts and just being on the the last true action hero’s is amazing
His beliefs aside, I think he’s an incredible actor as far as skill and dedication. I think it’s unbelievable that he does his own stunts but also extremely foolish. Impressive and foolish. I also have never heard anyone say anything but how incredibly kind and generous he is, and he seems to always be interested in other people during interviews
he is doing his own stunts coz it raises his paycheck, each stunt double takes salary away from the actor. So its just a greedy move.
@@MrAngerius bro stunt people arent paid as much as Tom fuckin Cruise. If anything its more expensive because insuring him is probably astronomically more expensive.
Regardless of what one thinks of Cruise in general or his personal life, there is no denying his films, as a whole, are some of the highest quality product that studios put out in the action genre, consistently and reliably over literal decades. Just scrolling down the list of top rated films he has starred in (and often has a direct hand in developing) it boggles the mind that one individual has had such an amazing track record of success.
It's maybe just a fact that he can't be so damn good at what he does in his professional life and be capable of matching that quality in his personal life.
