Usually bosses will keep those who do work at the same position. Because once promoted, nobody does the work as well anymore. That's why a lot of people who got promoted are all incompetent. Just my 2 cents
I agree that sometimes the grading system is beyond the control of the employee or even the manager.
I would suggest stay quiet but observe carefully what exactly amongst the backlog that you could truly improve or add value significantly that would eventually have a positive impact on the firm. Then prepare a proposal on the exact things you can do to resolve that specific backlog. Present the proposal to the manager to seek his/her advice and perspectives.
Never go on a project alone unless the Manager is aware and has given you the green light to do so. You do not want to create the impression of bypassing the authority or worse, ignoring the authority no matter how capable you might be.
You just go do it in your free time and say “hey I did this at home and thought it could add value, what do you think?”
Don’t ask more works.. it will ruins your health especially mental 🤭
Sounds like bad management to me also. The company should have developmental plan also with the employee.
As a people manager myself i would say either your manager sucks and only wants to earn a living to go home to his family OR K is overselling himself on paper but is under delivering 😂 but gut feeling tells me K manager is in a certain age group and only wants to do the bare minimum haha
