It's very strong in the USA too, the concept of freedom here is Satanic, not Satan from the bible. I struggled with this as you as well but our ancestors were only Christian in name, they might've changed their last name and adopted English but that's as far as it went.

I figured I'd help you out on why they celebrate Beltane now instead of Samhain: Wiccans in the Southern Hemisphere celebrate the Wheel mirrored, due to their seasons being mirrored as well. It is a convention and practice of the Wiccan religion.
The Gods of the Aboriginal people are the Gods that preside over the modern Nation State of Australia just as they always have, it is good though to remember where your ancestors come from and honor the Gods of your people as well, but the Gods of your people are in the land where your people came from.
