Now i use a6500 + 16-55/2.8. But in the past, my camera was a6000 + this lens kit. It always be the good combo for beginner, so compact for travelling, focal range... just a little bit not good in lowlight and not really sharp.
No doubt there's better quality lenses, but I always go back to this lens because of it's size and versatility, not that I have many lenses anyway. I have a long zoom lens, a manual focus wide angle lens, and a a few older lenses from a film camera I can attach with an adapter that include a macro lens and a 50mm lens. But a majority of the pictures I take are when I go hiking or am otherwise out and about. Most of the time I want a wider angle lens for most shots I take, but my dedicated wide lens is heavier and not convenient since it's manual focus. I also want to zoom in on some things sometimes so using the wide angle lens only doesn't work. Carrying around the zoom lens definitely wouldn't work. I enjoy taking pictures for fun and try not to sink a ton of money into it, so the kit lens is my most often go to. As I've heard said before, the best camera is the one you have with you. Anything too heavy to carry around on a hike just isn't going to be used. I've taken some pretty nice shots with the kit lens over the years as I've traveled around US national parks and other scenic places.
Great video! I photograph cars as a hobby, sometimes including the interior. I still use the kit lens at 16mm f3.5 with a polariser for the interior and it works great! Just enough bokeh and separation for that use case.
Thank you for this video! I want to learn photography so I just got an A6000 with both kit lens and I am discouraged by the results so thank you for the motivation to keep trying.
The kit lens can be very discouraging. Get a Sigma prime lens, 30mm or 56mm f1.4. The beautiful bokeh and sharp images will take your photos to next level 💪
@@TomsJurjaks That is part of why I'm discouraged. I'm new to this so the camera + kit lens was already a considerable investment for me and I am not ready to buy new lens yet (but I would love better low light performance).
@@gamesbymanuel and a very "fast" lens (meaning the one with a wide aperture like f1.4 or f1.8) will help you with low light. But yes, you are right, photography is not a cheap hobby and actually those 2 Sigma lenses I mentioned are considered "cheap" compared to other lenses. Nevertheless, don't let the lack of cash stop you. Do your best and squeeze out the maximum from the gear you have. This is what my channel is about - how to get the most of what you have and work with low budget. You can still make quite good photos as you have seen in this video even with a kit lens. Hey Hayta! I would love to answer your question, but it is too broad. You need to narrow it down - what is the use case, do you need it for photos or videos, if photos, what kind, do you want zoom lens or prime lens etc etc
Yes my friend. You can still get it. Watch my other video about it being discontinued. You can still find it in some stores before they run out of stock or also good option is to get a used one.
Hey Gaston. Sony 85mm lens is absolutely amazing! But it is also meant for totally different things like portraits etc. If you need something like that - go for it. Alternatively, you can also check Sigma 56mm f1.4 or 30mm f1.4 for a wider view.
Sometimes I doubt whether the photo shown here are actually taken with a kit lens. I have a sonya6000 with kit lens 16-50mm F3.5-F5.6. Try using them to take a lot of photo with different setting, different time of the day, try using BW, using Landscape mode, standard, Seipa, neurtral, Potriat, etc etc, play around with all the button you have.... try creating different mood etc etc.. Wonder if you can share those setting in the video that you took with Kit lens? Wondering the photo posted are flesh from oven without editing?
Hi Rchenable, yes all the photos are taken with this lens. Check my other video "POV Landscape Photography with Sony a6000 vs a6400". There are all the settings and raw files included. You can inspect each picture to see with which camera/lens its taken :) and yes it is possible to take good pictures with this lens.
@@TomsJurjaks @Toms Jurjaks thanks for the reply n will surely check out your other video. Then a good photographer must have a good eye to see what mood he want to create n then use the correct setting. One more question if I may asked... In a6000, I tried using neutral or sunset, BW... Do we just usually set to standard or neutral?
I personally have never used those settings like BW, Landscape, Sepia etc because I think they are very limiting. I believe this video will be a big eye opener for you: ruclips.net/video/2bNcA6wEfUA/видео.html When I switched to RAW it opened a new world for me and almost unlimited possibilities for creativity. When you shoot RAW you can make the picture to look what ever you want it to look like with Lightroom. I think this is why you are having a hard time getting pictures you want (or as you see in my video).
Movo VXR10 with Zoom H1 sound recorder (since a6000 doesn't have mic port). Check it here how I use it ruclips.net/video/BMqSX0GAtrQ/видео.html P.S. Links to these products are in description of this video.
You can use "Warp Stabilizer" effect in Premiere Pro, but its not the best because sometimes it can have weird effect on the video. Alternately, you can get a lens with OSS
Great video but I noticed with the sigma 16mm you were really happy and enthusiastic; here it felt you were trying hard to say something positive about the lens! Perhaps I’m overreacting...? :P
Hey James, maybe you are right haha dunno, Sigma is incomparably better, however this lens is quite good for photos but nothing outstanding. I use it so little and maybe that is why I am not too enthusiastic about it 😁
Hey Brenda! The question is - why do you wanna change your camera? Sure a6000 has lot better sensor (more megapixels), much better AutoFocus as well as slow motion video capability and lots of other features so it is worth the upgrade. You can also use a loooot of lenses for Sony. 🙌
@@TomsJurjaks thanks for the reply 💜 my camera is not focusing properly, it's too big and the quality in some environments (like the beach) is not that good. Hey @@tiliatae I would prefer Sony, but simply because I am used to it and it has waaay more lenses to choose from. But both cameras are good and you won't feel much difference when taking photos.
Monojit, Sigma 56mm is an absolutely amazing lens for portraits. I would choose that million times over 16mm. The Sigma 16mm is for other purposes - perfect for videos, also great for closeups and full body portraits. You can check out my review on that lens where I use it the most.
No Andrew. When someone says "50mm" - they mean a fixed focal length lens (also known as prime lens). Popular from prime lens is 50mm f1.8. The 16-50 or 18-55 (depending on brand) is a zoom lens.
I have recently bought a6000 and want to add prime lens to it. But I am confused between sigma 30mm 1.4 and sony 35mm 1.8. Can anyone give me suggestions 🙏🙏😊
Hey Suraj, congrats on your new camera 🔥 Sigma has one of the sharpest lenses there is. I personally also want to get it or the Sigma 56mm f1.4. I think its also a bit cheaper than Sony, no? Anyways, whatever you choose - they both will amazing lenses 🔥
Its not the best because of several reasons: 1) It does not have constant aperture, which means you will need to adjust the light if you zoom in / out; 2) It does not have a filter thread, it means you can't put on a ND filter and can't achieve cinematic look by applying 180 degree rule; 3) As soon as you zoom in a bit, the f-stop will be f5.6 which is quite poor for wide angle as object will not stand out and everything will be in focus. On a plus side, it has OSS which is nice. Don't get me wrong, you CAN use it for videos, but I would always choose any other lens than this for videos. For photos it is great tho.
What do you think of this lens?

Kit lens £500 and body £340 I can top up and get very nice lens so i need a lens that will do fantastic indoor product photography and also some leisure outdoor to play when my free time so hope you can help and thank you been patient 👍👍
I dont know which is the example of a6000 shoot, maybe u can give some little text in ur video?
All of the pictures taken in this video are 100% from Sony a6000 + kit lens.
Hi there , just wanna ask you . Which lens is the best with the average cost ?
Hey Hayta! I would love to answer your question, but it is too broad. You need to narrow it down - what is the use case, do you need it for photos or videos, if photos, what kind, do you want zoom lens or prime lens etc etc
Hey brother, can I still get the camera from Sony? Heard it was discontinued🙁
Yes my friend. You can still get it. Watch my other video about it being discontinued. You can still find it in some stores before they run out of stock or also good option is to get a used one.
@@TomsJurjaks Thanks a lot mate... Be Safe
I have this lenses and I'm not happy with the results, do you think I should upgrade it by a Sony 85mm f1.8 Prime lenses?
Thanks!
I believe this video will be a big eye opener for you: ruclips.net/video/2bNcA6wEfUA/видео.html
When I switched to RAW it opened a new world for me and almost unlimited possibilities for creativity. When you shoot RAW you can make the picture to look what ever you want it to look like with Lightroom. I think this is why you are having a hard time getting pictures you want (or as you see in my video).
What is your microphone for Sony a6000
Movo VXR10 with Zoom H1 sound recorder (since a6000 doesn't have mic port). Check it here how I use it ruclips.net/video/BMqSX0GAtrQ/видео.html
P.S. Links to these products are in description of this video.
@@TomsJurjaks thanks man 🙂👍
How can we stable our video with prime lens 50 mm or any other prime lens without gimble or tripod
You can use "Warp Stabilizer" effect in Premiere Pro, but its not the best because sometimes it can have weird effect on the video. Alternately, you can get a lens with OSS
@@TomsJurjaks thanks for information
Great video but I noticed with the sigma 16mm you were really happy and enthusiastic; here it felt you were trying hard to say something positive about the lens! Perhaps I’m overreacting...? :P
Hey James, maybe you are right haha dunno, Sigma is incomparably better, however this lens is quite good for photos but nothing outstanding. I use it so little and maybe that is why I am not too enthusiastic about it 😁
Heyy!! I have a nikon d3100, I'm thinking about buying a6000. Do you think it's a good idea or should I stick to my nikon? I can't decide 😭
I've been using nikon d3100 since 2013 I think. I'm traveling to Poland and I wanted a smaller camera with better quality, but my budget is low 🙃
Then a6000 might really be a great options for you@@tiliatae go for it 💪
@@TomsJurjaks Hi again, I'm sorry to bother again but if you don't mind, between Sony a6000 16-50mm and fujifilm x a5 xc 15-45mm, which one would you prefer?
Hey @@tiliatae I would prefer Sony, but simply because I am used to it and it has waaay more lenses to choose from. But both cameras are good and you won't feel much difference when taking photos.
Can I use Sigma 56mm as portrait lens?
Also make a comparison video with Sigma 16mm and 56mm f.14? Where to use 56mm and 16mm. ❤️
Monojit, Sigma 56mm is an absolutely amazing lens for portraits. I would choose that million times over 16mm. The Sigma 16mm is for other purposes - perfect for videos, also great for closeups and full body portraits. You can check out my review on that lens where I use it the most.
@@TomsJurjaks thanks a lot 😘
What lens for action/sports photography???
but why is bokeh so important ? if you can easy do in lightroom .
Good information... Ever shoot with vintage lenses on the a6000?
Yes Robert, with the Russian Helios and Jupiter. Works pretty well. I love the bokeh on them 👌
Does 50mm and 18-55 is not the same lenses?
No Andrew. When someone says "50mm" - they mean a fixed focal length lens (also known as prime lens). Popular from prime lens is 50mm f1.8. The 16-50 or 18-55 (depending on brand) is a zoom lens.
living legends of a6000 user,,,
You are too kind! Thank you my friend 🙏
50mm is good for portrait photographs and videos?
50mm prime lens, yes. But kit lens at 50mm not so much
Canon 200 mark 2 or sony a6000. Which of the following has the highest pic density?
Hii , did sony a6000 is good for photography
It is excellent! Check out my other videos and see for yourself what can it do. Also check my Instagram
Not happy with low light performance. Outdoor shooting it is ok.
I can understand. Its not a prime lens.
Great video! As always, - clearly and clearly, even to the Russian)))))
Great to know that my friend 😁🙌
I have recently bought a6000 and want to add prime lens to it. But I am confused between sigma 30mm 1.4 and sony 35mm 1.8. Can anyone give me suggestions 🙏🙏😊
Hey Suraj, congrats on your new camera 🔥 Sigma has one of the sharpest lenses there is. I personally also want to get it or the Sigma 56mm f1.4. I think its also a bit cheaper than Sony, no? Anyways, whatever you choose - they both will amazing lenses 🔥
Great video as usual. Hoping for more ppl to notice and subscribe this channel in 2021. Road to 10k subs 😆👏
Thanks a lot Afnan! Haha well I need a miracle to get to 10k in 2021 😁 but if I can help 1 person with my videos - Im already happy 🙌
this lens still worth it until now for me
😁
It does its job I guess :D
Bro, tell me about a6100😄
Its amazing camera 😁
I shot some photo's using this lens if you like i can send it to you...
Gautamfrayne@gmail.com send me
Why not for video?
Its not the best because of several reasons:
1) It does not have constant aperture, which means you will need to adjust the light if you zoom in / out;
2) It does not have a filter thread, it means you can't put on a ND filter and can't achieve cinematic look by applying 180 degree rule;
3) As soon as you zoom in a bit, the f-stop will be f5.6 which is quite poor for wide angle as object will not stand out and everything will be in focus.
On a plus side, it has OSS which is nice. Don't get me wrong, you CAN use it for videos, but I would always choose any other lens than this for videos. For photos it is great tho.
@@TomsJurjaks Dude, thanks for the in-depth reply!
@@TomsJurjaks Do you recommend if Sigma 56mm f1.4 be good enough for videos?
100% yes @@prakharyadav11 it is amazing lens and I personally can't wait to get it!
Would the kit lens be qny good for animals? Specifically, pictures of cats
It will be okay (not great). If you have a camera that has Animal Eye AF it will be better.
good
Nice video bro, but why so serious :D
I used all my laughs at the very beginning of the video 😅
