- A fantastic performance of one of my favorite Time numbers, "Jerk Out", from "The Arsenio Hall Show" on August 24, 1990. This record is from their 1990 release, "Pandemonium", and I encourage you all to buy that and their other works. I do not own this video nor the rights to it. posslife.com
The Time:
Morris Day - Lead Vocals
Jesse Johnson - Lead Guitar & Backing Vocals
Terry Lewis - Bass Guitar & Backing Vocals
James "Jimmy Jam" Harris III - Keyboards & Backing Vocals

Garry "Jellybean" Johnson - Drums
Jerome Benton - Mirror, Percussion, & Backing Vocals
Real music... this is what older people are talking about when, we say music today isn't good anymore. Groups made their own music.
YES! Real music and we danced while playing and singing! Yeah our generation was the best. Paak & Mars did bring it back . Finally!
The Time was the best RnB band of the 1980s bar none. Funky, cool and above all excellent musicians. You can't teach this stuff.
They were the best band period. Hands down over all
These guys are all pros. Showmanship, musicianship, dance skills. Brotha's are bad when they are all together.
2 years late & i just repeated what you said! Our era was the combo package; had to play instrument sing & dance to choreography. As much as I dug 70s Ohio Players, EWF...The Time was in a league by themselves.
Morris Day is the only man that could pull off wearing a silver smoking jacket. Smooth!
I would have loved 2 see this lineup in "Purple Rain"! This is how it's really done! The Original 7 were a MONSTER!!!
Jesse killed it
Yea, it sounded like something died
It's called SHOWMANSHIP. Outstanding!
Yes Sir !
Damn Right...This is how its done! Real music from real musicians! Prince created a musical Frankenstein that got out of control... Lol...😄
Morris Day and The Time doin' it. Minneapolis Funk at its finest family. Jerkin' everything in sight!!
This was LIT!! That whole room was on FIRE!!! So glad I'm old enough to have experienced The Time in their heyday. These are some bad azz cats.
Back in the 80's, Morris Day was the EPITOME of cool. "Ain't nobody bad like ME!"
These are what suits are supposed to look like, this style is never out of date,...the suits they where now, skinny suits all tight & no socks look so lame..the TIME keep it Mackish! With an Alpha vibe.
Santino Castillo agreed.
Exactly!!! Your suit is not suppose to fit like a super heroes costume.
Sadly it's sign of the times I mean you have people going to the store and restaurants in pajamas these days
@@rockwolf7777 Hahaha! So true.
@@hgonz14 So true. Sad 😞
Gotta give it to him, Morris is a smooth dude man.
MoneyOverFame Jamie Starr. This is 98% Prince.
@@blueser100 absolutely!
One of the BADDEST FUNK bands of all time. Even Prince himself admitted they were the only band he was afraid of. Not hard to tell here in this clip.
That’s funny since Prince co-wrote the song they are singing
They were all basically Prince's employees
@puck349 just like Prince was basically Warner Bros employee
Classic. Terry killed that bass
+rahsaan hill Jesse Johnson is playing a left-handed strat upside down lol
ONE OF THE BADDEST BASSISTS ....EVER..IN MY OPINION.... & Jesse Johnson is def a electric Guitar Mystro
That's why Prince went back home and got them. He only deals with quality like himself.
but remember Prince kicked them off his tour because they were killing it.
Prince wrote and produced this song!
I don't know why people persist with this misconception that Prince did everything for them, yes I know he wrote and produced some but not all for them. That group is loaded from top to bottom, Jesse Johnson on lead guitar,Terry Lewis on Bass,Jellybean Johnson on drums and who could also kill a guitar, Jimmy Jam and Monte Moir on keyboards and Morris Day lead vocals and drums plus Jerome Benton percussion and vocals. That group was Hella tight.
James Pearson Prince wrote and produced MOST of their music. Pandemonium is the only album they had a good amount of credit on. Ice Cream Castles they had some but "The Time" and "What Time is it?" was all Prince
James Pearson Prince did have alot of these songs as demos, this being one and Chocolate.
This is Prince' s band ... Prince AKA Jamie Starr producer for the time ...wow I can't believe you did not know this fact
Some of the songs were co-written, I think with Morris Day, but Prince produced all of them.
James Pearson yup prince feared them that's why he kicked them off his tour
No other band could ever compare to THE TIME!!!!!
They knocked it out of the park. Epic
Agreed
😮 Jesus lawd...SMH... Unreal!
I'm here in 2019 reminiscing about my favorite band. They were one hell of a party when they performed. Love them😍😍😍😍
Jazzy M , I saw them at the Dorton Arena, in Raleigh, NC on March 12, 1982. They were pure 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥! I saw them again in November of 1982, in Hampton, VA. Simply superb!
They always understood the assignment🤗👍lovem
@@hlcotten6587 the original 7
The Time was always so much FUN!♡
We all know that the time is a great band and Morris Day is Morris Day but did you see Jerome hit that split
The Time is timeless. Love it
I have saw them 3 times The concerts be Lit but this TV performance to me is their best television performance Ever I am saying Groups and Performance that Rocked the Television James Brown Elvis Ray Charles Michael on Motown 25 Prince On the SuperBowl The Stones on Sullivan Tina Turner The Queen of Soul And The Time on Arseno this performance ranks up there With All the Great Ones in my Mind!!!!
REAL MUSIC !!!! No Autotune ….. God exists !!! This proof of it
I remember seeing this Arsenio Hall show and I like the part went Morris said this is my posse and I laughed that Arsenio band could not touch them that night. 🤗👏🏼👏🏼🤗⭐❤
RIP MY BROTHER Prince Rogers Nelson
🙏
Jimmy Jam was such a BEAST on the keys tho'!!!!
+Andrea Llewellyn you know what you're talking about.... it's the pleasure principal ooohh ohhhh.....ohhhh ohhhhhh.....
Jesse wasn't too shabby on guitar too
They were good but Prince was Great .He was always changing his style ,he saw the future
@@VeiLofCognition the way written by Monte Mohr
Especially on I DONT WANNA LEAVE U their 2nd Album
MAN I LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I remember when this reunion happened it felt like they hadn't been together in 100 years, even though it had only been 6. Now even this was 25 years ago. Unbelievable...
Too CcccOooOooLlll!
Closing in on 2023..still Legendary Live classic ..
ladies and gentlemen this is the era to discover music! I was born 1970 so by the age of 10 I was able to understand what I was listening to I think that happens to us all. That means I was listening 2 great music in the 80s music that mr. Prince brought to us! Hold him Jesus we miss him and thank him for bringing Los Angeles swag and music education to us listen to that music, yes we had Sly Stone James Brown and Bootsy Collins before Prince but without his seasoning of music(prince) we would not have no dance no Romance no life so thank you Prince thank you mr. Morris Day and The Time for bringing us groups like the s o s band producing different groups black and white and gave Los Angeles the Minneapolis sound snatched Janet up and look what we have once again if you weren't born in this era you missed out!
Prince was a disciple of all those you mentioned-
🎶 *The Purveyor of
Purple Funk* 🎶
Morris Day..... The King of Swag!!!! I love Bruno... but this is where it all started..... All the "synth and brass stabs" were signature Jimmy Jam!!!! Real Production.... Real Entertainment!!!!
This was one of the best bands in the 90's I still rock their music today!
80's this was there only song from the 90's
They are the best at what they do
They are the best at what they do
They are the best at what they do9o1
Look at that audience GO.
But then again, impossible to sit still with this.
Only players and real macks can understand them
I would like to see The Time (Original 7s) on the road again, and release albums
The Time used to kick Prince & the Revolution’s ass so bad on tour that Prince would refuse to have them play the big cities (NYC, LA, HOU).
They were/are that damn good !!
Morris and everyone!!!! Our lives are full again with you in it!
The fabulous 1980s, our generation was blessed hands down !!
Jesse rhythm timing is still one of my favorites next to my uncle Wah Wah Watson! RIP unc!!!!!
I remember seeing them in concert in 1983 on the 1999 tour. Vanity 6, The Time and Prince. The Time killed it. Prince cut the concert short because he was mad. The battle of the bands....The Time 1...Prince. 0.
You right. I have the dvd when they are in Minneapolis in 82. Vanity and the time on one disc and prince on the other. I had it for about 9 years and i still never finished prince's set. I only watched vanity and the time.
Jesse is the man.
What a comeback hit and album. Prince at his finest (he wrote/played the studio album; as he always did for the band to play live.) Sure wish they still made music like this instead of copy and pasting loops. I'm called an 'old head' for liking real playing more than loops/samples. Lol. Notice those six strings Jessie was strumming on. Kinda makes it.
I have always said that Cameo is my personal favorite band, Earth, Wind & Fire is perhaps the greatest band of all time and James Brown was the baddest dude that ever got into the music industry.
HOWEVER, Morris Day and The Time (this original lineup) is, by far, the baddest cats as far as stage performance goes. They didn't use the pyrotechnics that EWF used, nor the gimmicks of Parliament. These dudes just came out and gave us a killer show with pure energy, attitude and music. Even in the movie Purple Rain, The Time killed it and Prince came in close 2nd. Just like the band Zone Seven out of Columbus, Ohio, Morris and these original cats were BADDDD!!!
You see why Prince was saying damn when he had to follow that 😂
The Time!!! That's how it was back in the early 90's. Good music and people partying and having fun.
I found them by chance. This is show will make u dance, forget ur problems.
2:21 Monte doing his thing
+soulburst Wow, they didn't give Monte any camera time!
soulburst Don't forget Jesse Johnson
Go 'head Monte❤!
Willie Hubbart Ikr! They was wrong for that!! Lol
soulburst Monte moir wasn't playing with your punk ass! He came to play! Not u per say Soulburst lol (speaking in general) lol
I love this. I can watch this performance all day. They were playing their ass off!! Jerk Out!!
They are cooool!! Very talented musicians and entertainers!! Thank you for posting!!
To see them live had to be the experience most remembered for years to come for all audiences. nice fp kmow they turn up here and again especily when the original band graces the stage.
0:23 to 0:29 is all Jesse's funk!
The TIME!!! The only band that Prince said that he was afraid of...Nuff said!!!
All Shit,! This. Is what I'm talking about, Morris, just love him. Jessie Johnson is a beast on that Guitar. This time is fierce, they did damage when they perform together, all of them I'd so talented as hell.
Bruno who? This is the real deal.
Still the best funk rock bands! WHAT TIME IS IT!!!!!
I always loved this band...!! Great showmanship !!!!!. Great music !! And always seemed like a party I would love to be at...lolol.
Terry Killed That Bass & Jesse On The Guitar, Bonus Playing It Upside Down
"Cut 'em Jesse." DAMN!!! Slays.
Back in the day... couldn't tell them NUTHIN'!!!!!!
These guys are freaking ridiculously good.
Best thing ever to come out of the 80s! Wish I could clone them all!
Wishing each one if these guys the best.
What a tight band!
Dats Dem Boyz!!!
Honestly, Jessie Johnson was "real" rockstar of the Time!!
So good, Don Cornelius gave Arsenio his props! #TheTime
( in Morris Day Voice) yasss!
luckycharms7able YAAAASSSSSS
There's an undertone of self-mockery and playfulness by Morris that raises the performance up to a higher level of quality. So much talent on stage, wow.
Great group. Why did the Aresenio show go off the air, I never knew, and I missed it when it was gone.
“Cut ‘em Jesse.” This is just SO COOL!
Jesse Johnson is a Bad Man.
Originally written by Prince in '81 during the Controversy tour & intended for The Time's second album "What Time Is It"
Nastiest Band of ALL TIME!!!!!
Tru dat!
FACTS
True
jerome bentton on the mirror.......THE TIME.....
+cgulljb ravi Where'd i put them keys to the whip.....Jerome!!
LMBO! That's Funny..But True He Played a Mean Mirror!
With Terry Lewis, Jimmy Jam and Jesse Johnson, they were the most powerful band ever assembled in the history of music. Only David Lee Roths band with Vai, Bissonett and Sheehan could compare.
The greatest band in the world
DAMN!!!!
ok u got terry lewis Jimmy jhonson Jesse jhonson morris day all together in one group. PIONEERS. the time
Always loved to see Jerome doing the splits.
The Time is such a technically sound and creative band with style and originality
This is wonderful!
Prince knew EXACTLY what he was doing....PERIOD!
Jesse-Jesse-Jesse is the ish in the Time or solo.
I Love When It's All The Original Members..The Baddest Band Ever!!!
Fire.🔥🔥🔥🔥
JJ&TL are real musical geniuses if there ever was any.
Jesse be CUTTIN em!!
The Time is Old school Dope!!!
Love Terry on the bass
Yes, he tore it up! 😎
No one brought groove and funk to the stage like these boys did here that's for damn sure!!! Get it mo....
This performance was Better than Jungle Love from Purple rain.
You gotta love em. All of them, especially Morris, the coolest person I know. Still can't find nobody bad like him.
Damn! They’re so mad tight when the Original 7ven are together on stage! The Time always on top of their game!
Jesse throwin it down as usual!!
Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis are the bomb!!!! This has the beat of COOL 😎
Minneapolis ain't really got a lot of black folks. But, DAMN the black musicians are TIMELESS!!! Their music is like Vacuum Sealed GOODNESS!! Don't believe me? Check it out.... PRINCE. THE TIME, MINT CONDITION, STOKELY!!! I just to slap myself just in case I said anything wrong or left anything out!
This was after Jam and Terry had blown up as producers?
southern cali yes
I’m thinking before.
@@danzbmw Janet's Albums were already burning the charts, along with Herb Alpert, Human league, SOS Band etc...
That intro though!!! Music and style
Prince was scared to death of these Fellas!!!!! Now I see why!!!
koden24 - so true, because they were actually kicking ass in there concerts
Prince however was the master mind so you cant dismiss him at all...in fact praise him
well prince wrote all there music .goes 2 show u how funky he was
@@slickgee Yeah, Prince was the puppetmaster for The Time although they were great in their own right as well.
The Time ..The Badest band on the planet
Terry Lewis on that base was fire 🔥
That mirror always gets me....🤣
The baddest band!!!
I can't believe it's going 2 be 30 years that Graffiti Bridge came out, I was 8 but was a funky kid!
