- A very nice Peterson estate pipe, a 106S billiard shape of "Deluxe" grade. The pipe isn't in need of any major restoration, but we'll show you how to clean it thoroughly and how to make a few slight adjustments to the shank and stem to get it ready to use. Finally, we'll load it up and see how it smokes!

An excellent approach to building an affordable collection of high-quality classic pipes.
These are the kinds of pipe videos I like to see: full of ideas and useful technical tips. The short demo on sanding and waxing the tenon is simple but helpful to those willing to put it into practice.
I'm amazed at the number of pipe colleagues who suffer year after year with ill-fitting stems and other easily remedied problems. One of my long-time friends, a Dunhill fancier, never even cleans his pipes. He just waits until they no longer draw, and then takes them to the pipe shop for an overhaul.
I might steer him to your video. But he'll probably wonder what the part involving pipe cleaners is all about.
Bartholomew Fotheringay-Phipps - Thanks for watching! I sometimes see used pipes for sale in a state of such utter neglect that I am flabbergasted that anyone let them reach such a turn. A minimum of maintenance goes a long way.
As a German i got a chuckle out of you reading that Newspaper. And I didnt understand a single Word.
Haha. I'm not surprised.
I thought it sounded almost like Dutch.
A simple and beautiful pipe & a nice bottle o whiskey too!
+Justin Wilson - Thanks for watching! That pipe has become one of my favorites in a short time.
You are a pretty interesting cat. Enjoying your videos.Dig all the information and knowledge you pass on.
I really like your videos, they are very informational to a new pipe smoker. Keep up the good work.
warofages247 - Thanks for letting me know that you're finding the channel useful!
Just discovered your channel. Really enjoy learning how you clean, break in and smoke estates pipes. I'll keep watching.
+John Brink - I'm glad you found the channel, and I appreciate you watching.
Thanks for the very useful video and for a look at that great pipe. It's very classy. Perfect billiard shape, great quality, and with that quirky Peterson button. It was a nice result -- a high grade vintage pipe for very little money. Excellent condition, semi-restored by a reputable seller. It's sort of a happy medium between top-gouge retail estate pipe sellers, on the one hand, and yard sale sellers who just put it right up there for you to take the risk, on the other. It seems like you did well, and that's exactly what's good about buying vintage stuff. A lot of quality for your money there.
Couldn't have been more timely for me, saw it just after an eBay Charatan lumberman arrived in the mail and I had finished some buffing and waxing.
Okay, have to admit that first, my Top Gear withdrawal being so acute, I watched a series of RUclips videos of James May making shepherd's pie (surprisingly entertaining!) -- then I saw you'd posted a new video.
Here's the Charatan. It's now glossier and prettier than in the seller's photos. But it's HUGE. Gigantic bowl, thick stem. Normally when I get eBay pipes they are smaller in real life than I imagined them when looking at the photos, but this was the reverse. It needs somebody with a giant Fred Flinstone head to smoke it. I don't know if I even dare. But anyway, it's now slightly more beautiful.

Rob Morrison - Looks like you scored a very pretty pipe! Yes, there is definitely the possibility of a nice value for money when you shop for used pipes, especially when they're being auctioned. Sometimes people just don't bid, and you end up with a great deal.I watched the shepherd's pie vids as well!
Let me guess, she smelled your knife, and you haven't seen her since? Ha! Great vid. Good Things.
Boz Pipe_Smoker - Ha! Thanks for watching!
Great video Bradley and congrats on your newest Peterson Deluxe acquisition. Thank you for taking the time to shoot & edit the footage for cleaning and caring for a pipe, as I'm found it informative and it will most likely prove helpful to a lot of us novice pipers in the community.
Side Note: I did recently order a Peterson lighter (the Corona Old Boy style) based on your video review awhile back and I am anxious to receive it next week. Thank you!
Smok'in Hogs - Glad you found the video helpful, and I hope you enjoy your new lighter!
When I was watching your video, I was sitting there smoking my cheap cob pipe from the Missouri meerschaum company with some GL Pease Abingdon, I was about a quarter way down in the bowl when you said your pipe smell like a Band-Aid. Lol, I started laughing so hard I blew ash through my pipe all over my lap dropped it on the floor it was hilarious.
Great pipe! In my short pipe smoking history, I too have started to gravitate to the straight billliard. It's seems I get a more consistent experience. Enjoy!
Gus Evening - Thanks! Yeah, there definitely is a case of "knowing what you're getting" with the experience of smoking a nice billiard.
Great looking pipe! Looking forward to some reviews, hope you have a great day!
James Fontalbert - Thanks! I'm trying to post at least a review a week, so I should have one up by next Wednesday or so.
Thanks for the visual example of this process. I bet I have been one click away from going after an eBay pipe ten times and just couldn't make myself take the next step BUT when I do I will know how to evaluate, clean, adjust, and prepare said pipe thanks to your instruction. Many thanks. You may want to pursue sponsorship from Dr. Pepper. LOL "YOU have been Bradley, I have been the viewer and this has been STUFF&THINGS ... brought to you by DR. PEPPER, always one of a kind!" Cheers!
Mylon Ash - I'd be all for a Dr. Pepper sponsorship! I'm not sure if they'd want to associate their brand with "evil" tobacco use though. ;-)
you looked really tired , thanks for taking time to do that , I hope you had a relaxing evening with your novice pipe :)
Ismail Taher. - I WAS tired! It was worth it though. I'm enjoying the pipe a lot.
Glad to hear it :)
"Smell this. Smell my knife." This might be my new pick up line!
Nice looking Peterson. I always think system pipe or bent when talking Peterson. Nice change.
Pipe Mentor - Yeah, they also do the "classics" pretty well!
Great video! That's one nice Pete you got there. I am a huge fan of all things Peterson. I have around 100 of them (crazy I know) of all different vintages and shapes. IMHO they are great smokers. Excellent job showing your cleaning process by the way. Enjoy your new pipe in good health! Take care.
-Jim
BCV Piper - They're a great brand! I really like their slightly different takes on some of the classic English shapes.
Stuff&Things I forgot to ask... is that great smelling knife of yours a Case XX?
Nope. It's a GEC Northfield: ruclips.net/video/8kzWPXVXlVo/видео.html
And at times, you really do make me laugh out loud! Nice vid and nice pipe!
I haven't seen this video before...both peterson pipes look great...and a tip when the stem is too tight, just put around the tenon some graphite from a pencil and you'll see the diference..
Thank you very much for a really enjoyable and informative review. I learnt a lot.
Chandon Bleackley - I'm glad you liked it!
Smoking a 106 now. Great pipe. Love it.
I have an Estate Peterson 1970s Dunmore #78 coming in tomorrow.
Artisan's Blend is good if you like a Latakia forward English.
I never buy a pipe if they don't have decent pics of the chamber. Nice to see they knew how to safely pack and ship a pipe. The one thing I always worry about is if it will have a Lakeland Ghost.
DannoCrutch - I've yet to come across a Lakeland ghost, but I've heard plenty of horror stories!
for some reason I love the billiard shape and the Oom Paul pipes
Love the vids brother!
Just got into pipe smoking... what took me so long!?
I have immediately gained an appreciation for Peterson Pipes. Have 2 already 😄 a 314 and a 303 Standard Systems.
Dying for a Premier or a Deluxe one day!
That's a pretty sweet looking pipe! I definitely need to get another Peterson. As for Artisans Blend, many times I've considered purchasing it but haven't yet. Curious to see your review.
***** - My experiences with the higher grade Petersons have all been really positive. Thanks for watching, man!
ROFL!! your german accent is pretty dang good!
When i want to put the stem in i turn it clockwise and the other way when i want to take it out. i find in these method that the
.stem tightening is not weakened, and also it set back in(or out) with no problem
"This guy is pretty damn tight right now, so I'm just gonna keep working it back and forth a little bit."
J Walls giggity
Takes me back to my prison nostalgia.
Keep the videos rolling!!! They are great! Always looking forward to sunday smoke. Dont want to pry or be nosey and totally understandable if you dont wish to divulge the information but what do you do for a living if you dont mind me asking.
Jevon Phillips - Ah, a popular question. I'm afraid I'm going to have to continue to play coy. It actually doesn't really matter if people know I suppose, but I kind of enjoy keeping people guessing. Thanks for watching!
Thanks, I'll check their list.
oh ho! so you can't read German but you seem to know a few words...interesting that you use whisky to clean/alter the taste of your pipe, I was taught by my bag pipe teacher to use whisky for the same reason you used it on my bag pipes but then again he also smoked a pipe too.
Hkaread Morin - Bagpipes, smoking pipes - they're all pipes!
At 27:44 he enters The Zone. haha, great vid.
Doggieman1111 - Glad you liked it!
Thanks for the vid, very informative. I'm still kinda new to your channel, but I notice that you don't do much coverage of meerschaums. I'm assuming it's a preference, but I was just wondering if you'd consider doing a few meerschaum related vids for information sharing purposes if nothing else (particularly cleanings). I find meerschaum to be an interesting part of the hobby, but I'm unfortunately also finding it difficult to find good vids on YT. Maybe I just haven't looked hard enough. Anyway, great channel! I'll be sure to check in from time-to-time.
+Mr. Wydecliffe - Perhaps in the future, I will do videos on meerschaum, but I don't own or smoke any at the moment. Thanks for watching!
Your German accent isn't THAT bad. I am ethnically German/Mi'kmaq, so I'm trying to learn the German language. By the way, I love your reviews. I am curious as to what suggestions you may have for me (I have been smoking a pipe for one year so far)
I wondered if they had previously tried to sweeten it with an Islay scotch, because they do have a iodine/band-aide smell to it. I could see that peat smell could be imparted into the pipe.
+Sean Vermillion - Sounds like a good theory!
Scheiße! :D haha.. that was funny! Pretty pipe!
Graphite also works well with hard-sticking mouthpieces.
Greetings from Germany,
Giacomo
GiacomoPhilipp92 - I hope you enjoyed my "perfect" pronunciation!
I have a love hate relationship with EBay. I love it because I have the chance to find really nice pipes I wouldn't be able to afford otherwise. I hate it because I find so many pipes I couldn't possibly buy them all!!
I smoked 2 bowls while watching this. Great channel. What is that model of lighter you have? I need one that makes flame go downward. Thx
I can answer for him: the lighter is a Peterson. Bradley has two separate videos on it.
Aha! You use Jameson to sweeten your pipes. Good choice. I use higher proofs on mine. Wild Turkey 101 for Virginias and a cask strength Scotch for the English pipes. Nice Peterson by the way. Who was the Ebay seller?
David Pidlypchak - Well, if I have liquor on hand, it's usually Jameson. It seemed appropriate for a Peterson pipe! The seller was bonsai220556.
Thanks for watching!
I love your German.
Ahhh no worries! Really the only reason i ask is because of my profession involved a few classes and all the videos i viewed started with the exact same odd sounding bleeps and bloops that your videos start with. Maybe just a coincidence?
Jevon Phillips - Interesting. I just happened to find the SFX and liked it because it reminded me of something you might hear in an old sci-fi movie.
If I send you some Band Aids for you to smoke, will you promise to do a Review? I promise they wont be used ones. I really like the pipe and appreciate the overview of how to handle them- I have bought two in the last two weeks.
Colin Kelly - Only if they are genuine "Band-Aid Brand" band-aids. I've noticed that you've been getting into estate pipes a bit. Good experiences so far?
Haven't smoked either yet, one just arrived at my house and the Savinelli just arrived before I left. I wouldn't dare send knockoff Band Aids to a Connoisseur of them. That would be classless.
Very nice looking Peterson. Isn't it difficult to use a softie bit with the P-Lip stem? Just curious. ~Dale
TheEltopian - I haven't found it difficult. I just place the bit right under the rim of the p-lip. I guess it would depend on your particular way of smoking and gripping your pipe though. Thanks for watching!
dude you sounded more german than I do when I try haha.. been watching the channel for a while but now I seem to have an urge to pick up a pipe, I really like the look and feel of Italian pipes, is there any to recommend for starters, or just go straight to the top sellers?
+Kp - There are lots of great makers, but to start off, you probably couldn't go wrong with a Savinelli.
petersons look awesome as well, thanks mang
Always liked Peterson pipes, what is your top 3 pipe maker Bradley ?
Kasper - Hard question. I obviously like Petersons, and I think Castello is a great brand. There are far too many pipe-makers though, and I've only owned pipes by a fraction of them, so I can't really say which are the best.
Nice pipe you have and nice review. Do you dedicated a pipe for a different blend or you just smoke english and vaper in same pipe.. Cheers mate :)
Django Z - I don't dedicate. I'll smoke "unflavored" blends in any pipe. Thanks for watching!
Bradly, you are extremely cool!!! by the way, do you use a filter in your pipes? if not why not?
+Ramez Qubain - I don't use filters. I don't inhale when I smoke, so I don't see the point. I think they just rob some of the flavor. Thanks for watching!
I have a Peterson Deluxe 106 shape (an eBay purchase) in excellent condition and I would like to know if there is any way to date it. On one side is inscribed "Peterson's (and under that) "Deluxe" and below and to the left, the letter "A"; on the other side (small and in caps) "Made in the Republic of Ireland" and to the right, near the bowl, "106 F/T". What is your take on this? Perhaps you can point me to a source for identifying Peterson pipes. Many thanks.
HaHa you seem to like to sniff a lot of things is that where the stuff and things came from knifes Band Aids what else just kidding love the show keep em coming Bradly :)
hello there, how do you recommend sanitising the stem on the outside?
just bought an estate pipe that is quite clean.
+אבירן בנימין - You could just wipe it down with some rubbing alcohol.
I laugh every time I watch this lol
anything you could suggest to use as an alternative for the bee's wax? or do I need to go rustle some up somewhere?
+Modern Holler - Nothing springs to mind. I've always found it quite easily at hardware stores or online.
+Stuff&Things I'll have to check around then, shouldn't be too difficult... I've also heard just "coloring" on the tenon with a pencil works to loosen a tight stem. The graphite acts as a "lubricant" and reduces friction. Might give that a try, if not I'll definitely get some fine grit sandpaper and bee's wax.
Hey Bradley, what's your favorite method for removing stem oxidation?
The Lowmein - Well, I have access to a buffing wheel, so I mostly use that. Makes things much easier!
ok but do you just use the wheel? do you use some polish or something on the wheel? it'd be a cool stuff and things field trip lol.
Maybe I'll do a video on it soon. I have a few stems that could use a good polish.
Bradley where did you get your beeswax?
***** - I just bought mine from the local hardware store. It should be pretty easy to find. If you can't find it locally, there's always amazon.com.
It's just raw wax? Nothing special correct? Thank you for the speedy reply by the way.
Nothing special that I'm aware of.
No problem!
Because of this video I felt extremely compelled to re-open my eBay account... And I did... I hate you! :P
+Atham Aldecua - Good luck finding a pipe!
+Stuff&Things Well... I went ahead and got an estate Peterson Deluxe System 4S made in 1978 from eBay. It looks like new! This video helps. Thanks, Bradley.
Nice! Enjoy your new pipe!
With you on the knife smells brother
Alcohol in the mortice raises the grain =( The sand paper on the tenon is the fix =). Forget the bees wax.
👍👍
Ashton artisans blend is crap in my opinion. could have just been my tin. but if you want it I'll happily mail it to you. :)
+Justin Ranton - I quite enjoyed it, but we all have different tastes. No need to send it to me. I'm sure you could find a deserving person locally to give it to.
Why hath ye been smelling bandaids?
When you tried to read German it accidentally sounded a bit like Switzerdeutsch.
tell me you are greek??
When a female friend is not impressed with the smell of your knife.
FeelsBadMan
LOL, I'm guessing your female friend hasn't returned?
your tattoo say άνθρωπος,,,,, why wrote this please??
+lampros mellis - I talk about the reason in this video: ruclips.net/video/vz6OF0xghUg/видео.html
