The Bear gave Lowry a compound fracture of the arm during the assault.. so Lowry was in no condition to stay and fight with a broken bone sticking through his skin. The story was covered by multiple local news stations in Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana.. I've picked up more detail watching 1/2 a dozen of those local TV station stories.

Well actually I would shoot the thing because I'm not stupid enough to be unarmed in bear country.
Anyway, I would weep for my friend, but there is no sense in replacing myself for him in at the mercy of a bear.
Call me a coward or whatever you want, but I'm not getting mauled my a bear for anyone. Maybe my wife or kids if I had either.

When you have children, you made the decision to become their protector and provider, especially if that means giving your life for them.
