I don't know if this is a thing IRL but the stripped bits of tree trunk and the sparse leaves + being on a small island in the ocean makes me think that the salty sea air has affected the trees growth somehow, like they've grown in spite of their environment or something
It's not actually uncommon to find damaged plantlife around the coast and stuff as yeah you do get more impact from storms, wind, waves if it's low enough etc. I didn't think of that whilst building it but it's definitely a nice unintentional detail.
