This is the most helpful and informative video about this beautiful plant. I got one a month ago and nothing. Nothing has happened. So it is amazing to know that it might take a while. I love that you showed the new growth!!! Now I know what to look for :)

Thank you for this video. Mine is growing tons of these little 3 sided skinny spiky stick things from the soil (hardly any from the growth already established). At first I thought my dog tail cactus (which is growing next to it) contaminated the pot and I thought I was growing two separate plants in the is pot. I was so convinced I took it out of its pot and started separating it. That's when I realized the growth wasn’t separate but the coming from the same plant. Then I had no idea why and thought it maybe wasn’t getting enough light or was dying, haha. I couldn't find any pictures online that looked like mine until I found your video.

I bought one from Etsy. As I was growing it I saw a hairy stick thing growing and I asked the seller what it was and he said he didn’t know. I read somewhere that the new hairy stem thing was due to poor watering or too much light. I got rid of it. Watching your vid I didn’t know it was actually a leaf. Glad I watched. I almost threw it out.

Super informative. I didn’t understand the growth pattern and that the stems will flatten out and take on the zig zag form. I thought something was wrong with mine, but it’s actually growing well! Thanks.

Hello fellow Canadian! I’m from Nova Scotia 🇨🇦 and it’s not easy to find these beautiful plants here either! I got one probably 6 months ago now, and he’s grown so much!
I have multiple new growths on mine, but wasn’t sure if they looked normal. Your video is the first information I’ve seen online (after a LOT of searching) about the new growths starting off straight and spikey, and eventually flattening out into the zig zag shape! I was so worried about it and none of the articles or videos I found online were answering my question, until I found yours! So thank you ❤️

Same here about not knowing what new growth is supposed to look like. I read on a plant group on Facebook to beware of long pencil like branches because it supposedly meant that it was searching for light and to move it to better light. People were talking about cutting the long stringy growth off completely 😱
Also from Nova Scotia and had a hard time finding one of these. I think I ended up getting it at a hardware store and it was the only one there.

Hey, another nova Scotian here aswell 🙋, I have this plant and looove him, the new growth really confused me for a while too but it always seemed to end up ok so I just assumed it was normal. However I just recently noticed a couple stems have a brown mushy parts on the sides. It's freaked me out. I'm in the process of changing soil n letting it dry out.... With this rotting stuff continue ??¿ Or should it be ok once I change the soil n dry out the roots???
