No highlight for 1998. My dad passed away from cancer in late June 1998. However, oddly tying in with this episode, he was determined to finish the NBA finals because he had never watched the full playoffs for it before. Then he finished a very long book I bought him the previous xmas. I said "guess I should have bought you a longer book". The rest of 1998 was generally awful. Not my favorite year of the 90s by a long shot.
I was 3 years old in 1998. 1998 is probably the first year that I have concrete memories of. I remember I got a lightsaber for my birthday, and as a result, I charged the wall with the saber, fracturing my skull on impact. To this very day, I have a scar from that incident. I also remember seeing the Mathew Broderick Godzilla movie in theaters. It’s probably the first concrete memory I have of going to a theater.

I love the edited version of The Big Lebowski on regular cable TV... "This is what it's like, Larry, when you FIND a stranger in the ALPS"
I was in 8th grade in '98. The nostalgia factor is off the charts on this one. I remember most of these headlines VERY clearly.
... Wasn't quite 9/11 yet, and cellphones weren't prominent. They were around, but only a small minority of the population had them. Maybe 1 outta 10 in your friends had one. But, 5 outta 10 of your friends had beepers. Ya'll know the one... That Motorola one... 🤣🤣🤣
Oh I definitely remember the beeper.. I had the one you're talking about and sending/receiving numerical codes that either looked like words or the letters that corrosponded to the numbers on the telephone layout... What fun
They forgot the headline of Mike Tyson pushing Stone Cold Steve Austin. lol
@@jp3813 Oh man!!! '98 was balls deep into the Attitude Era!!!
I was also in grade 8, no one I knew had a pager or phone.
Great job, can't even imagine how much time goes into these. I love them!
R.I.P. Phil Hartman and Sonny Bono!😭❤️📺🎶
Also, in 1998 was release Virtual XI, a great and often misunderstood album from the best band in the world!
In my opinion the Dreamcast was the most underrated console ever. I loved playing Ready to Rumble and Crazy Taxi on it.
Easily the definitive “ahead of its time” console.
can somebody explain that system like the screen on the controller?
right? Was such a great system, too bad SEGA was in over their head. They still have people that make games for the Dreamcast...I have no idea how they play them though....
@@firstnameiii7270 it was called a VMU or virtual memory unit. If i remember correctly. It was basically your memory card for saves that had a lcd screen on it that you could play mini games on. It would plug into your controller.

Nothing better than a Sunday morning with a new Timeline.
Missed you guys!!! Awesome!!!
I was 17 years old and I was starting my first job because I lied about my age and became a forklift operator and I'm 40 now and now train people to operate forklifts for OSHA not to shabby
😂😁👍
Took you 23 years to become a trainer? Good job 👍
@@84knucks05 more like 20 years because I started to train people when I was 37 thanks knucks

Not all of us have innate talent of leadership 😠
It's more than just skill it's having social influence.
Thank you for creating these timeline videos from every year! I know it takes a lot of work. The music and background chime is nostalgic and I can't wait to see every year up to 2020! Keep it up
I was 18 for all of the year until New Year's Eve. I graduated from high school. 1998 seems like yesterday. Time flies!
Love these series of videos you guys produce! Absolutely awesome! You guys should do a time line of the 50’s and 60’s
Crazy I showed my parents the timeline series when eating lunch and now we can’t stop watching these lol
In 1998 the federal minimum wage was raised from $5.15 to $5.75. Abundance and prosperity for all!
That 5.75 is worth more than minimum wage now.
I received a promotion in '98 and went up to $11.30/hr plus commission. I remember thinking how I was raking it in!
Non Progredi Est Regredi Well, your $11.30/hr plus commission went a lot farther then than it would now. So, you probably were raking it in at the time.
@@lindseystein9676 Yeah, I was 25 at the time and it was decent money back then. I still have the IRA I set up that year and it's still earning me interest; I'm glad I didn't spend that money!
And it stayed at $5.75 for a loooong time, cause I got my first job in 2004 and that’s how much I got paid
Glad u guys took the time to show The Truman Show. The film is an absolute masterpiece
talk about a coincidence, this vid was uploaded right after i asked whens the next timeline video gonna come out!
Best part of the weekend here
November 21, 1998, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time releases! Arguably the best video game of all time.
The year I was born!! Finally a comprehensive video on what happens when I was just 0 years old!
if you had been born in china you'd have already been 1!
The
Will be right back fails get me every time 😂😂😂😂😂🔥
This is an excellent trip down memory lane.
Was just listening to Aquemini yesterday
Holds up
My favorite Outkast album.
Awww, seeing Markie Post in “There’s something about Mary” just broke my heart all over again… I had such a crush on her when she was on Night Court. RIP Markie Post! 😥
Seeing 98 Godzilla made me giddy. Damn nostalgia lol
I saw it in a drive in theater, made that movie watchable.
That P Diddy song off the soundtrack was a banger too
@@rebeccagibbs4128 That was what I was thinking.
I graduated high school in 1998. It doesn't seem that long ago, but it really was!
Yep I was born a year later i will be 22 in October
I like these timeline videos, but man, I can't count how many times I've thought to myself "no way these two events happened in the same year!" 😅
Like many others here this was the year I graduated from high school. Kinda wish I could go back and do things better but I doubt it would actually turn out any better than it has. The 90s were great though. Truly fond memories of that decade. Probably the best decade of my life.
I was 5 or 6 in 1998
Fellow class of 98 grad here
been waiting for this!thank you!
Omg I just discovered these videos! The best thing ever!
Not my favorite year of the 90s by a long shot.
damn
I love the humor you have. It's funny because the jokes are not overdone. It's perfect timing and perfectly communicated.
I was 17, I started riding a beautiful motorbike, got my first job and my Nokia 3310 life was good
I was so hyped for my year that I ended up hating it 😢 RIP Phil Hartman
WCW, ecw and WWF were awesome
Finally someone mentioned it. The Monday Night Wars were hot at this time. I wish he at least mentioned Wrestlemania 14
@@karlitosway7474 agreed. Mike Tyson floored Shawn Michaels 😂
Thank you for sharing my story with your listeners. 😊
16:36 oh cool, they showed all of the parts of the Saving Private Ryan intro landing scene without any blood
These are a great trip down memory lane.
