  • Easy Quick & Tasty Gulab Jamun / Indian Doughnuts Soaked In Syrup (Fiji Indian Style)
    • 3 cups self-raising flour
    • 2 tbsp butter / Ghee
    • 1/4 tsp nutmeg powder
    • 6 cardamom pods crushed
    • 1 tsp vanilla essence
    • 1 cup homemade condensed milk or 1 can condensed milk
    Sugar Syrup
    • 2 cups sugar (white or brown)
    • 3 cups water
    Method
    1. To make the sugar syrup, take a wok on medium heat, add sugar and water and bring it to a boil.
    2. When it starts to boil and the sugar has dissolved, turn the heat off and let it cool slightly while you get the gulab jamun dough ready.
    3. To make the gulab jamun dough, take condensed milk in a bowl and add crushed cardamom, nutmeg, vanilla essence and butter and mix well to combine.
    4. Add one tablespoon of flour at a time mixing well to combine after each addition using a spoon.
    5. When the dough starts to get stiff, start using your hands to knead the dough, scraping the sticky dough from the bottom of the bowl as you go. The dough should be stiffer than roti dough and it should not be sticky.
    6. Knead it for 2 minutes till the dough is smooth.
    7. Now the dough is ready to make gulab jamuns.
    8. Take a small amount of dough and roll it into a cylinder by rolling it between your palms. Continue the process till you have finished making all the gulab jamuns.
    9. Now its time to cook the gulab jamun.Take a wok , put it on medium heat and add some oil.
    10. To see if the oil is hot , take a small dough and make it into a ball and add to the oil. If the oil is hot it should come up straight away without burning which means the oil is ready to fry. If the dough starts to burn, it means the oil is too hot so lower the heat slightly.
    11. Add about 5 gulab jamuns at a time and cook it for 2 minutes on each side or until it is light brown in colour.
    12. Drain it on some paper towel. Continue the process till you have finished frying up all the gulab jamuns.
    13. Now take about 5 gulab jamuns at a time and add it to the sugar syrup and let it soak for 1 minute and take it out and put it into a plate.
    14. Enjoy

    The syrup is really watery. I think it needs to be more thick.

    • @anitasguidetosimplecooking
      @anitasguidetosimplecooking  3 месяца назад

      Dear Isha, You do not want the syrup to be thick or even 1 thread. It just has to be slightly sticky or else the gulab jamuns wont be able to absorb the syrup. Regards Anita.

    U are using only self raising flour

    • @anitasguidetosimplecooking
      @anitasguidetosimplecooking  6 лет назад +3

      Dear Suresh, The reason for using self raising flour is that you do not have to worry about using baking powder or baking powder. It is convenient and very simple and easy. You can always use plain flour or all purpose flour as long as you add baking powder or baking soda. Regards Anita.
