Thanks! Just did it last night - major PITA. I did not have to take out the radiator - just the fan. There is enough room to get the alternator in and out with the radiator still there.
Helpful video. Who knew you had to pull the whole car apart to change the alternator. I’m never getting another Mazda! I am replacing the alternator and compressor. I broke the exact same plastic crap fitting on the radiator header tank. It felt like it was made of soggy cardboard. Lousy plastic throwaway car. Thanks for making the video.
The second time I managed to remove fans back of the radiator, and removed alternator. Still lots of trouble. Anyway you comment helped to save about a hour. I have all my tools, if it fails again can fix it in 2-3 hours. By the way, the second failure was my mistake from previous one. Conduit around the wires wasn't placed and wires burnt and small hire around the alternator. Learned something in a heard way lol
- Rotare the wheel to have enough space to work on alternator - Remove the splash shield (plastic underneath the fender) - Use socket wrench with wobbling attachment with longer extension also. It is located in a odd place, it took me almost half day first time. I did recently again my alternator, this time took me about 30 minutes to get that crap bolt. At this time, I also didn't remove the radiator.

Paul Hibbs saaaaaaame exact thing happened to your boy Jason as well! Shit sucks man I was so pissed lol
It's Mazda's terrible design.
Broke it myself , went and Bought a Home Depot 1/2” tap and a brass barbed fitting screwed it in with JB weld
Thanks. You save me a lot of trouble. Thanks again. Well explained.
Dang you did that in a parking lot? 😂
You don’t have to take the radiator completely out, you can fish out the alternator with just the fans out, but whatever makes it easier for you works
Now he's broke the radiator
Props bro, and your not even a mechanic thats lit
One of those guys who rips your car apart in autozone parking lot huh?
This is just the best
Loco...loco..man🤣🤣🤣in parking lot 🤣🤣🤣
Mazda's awful design causes this nonsense. The alternator should be easily accessible. There's no reason for all of this.
Bob how is your alternator holding up now after the second replacement and how many miles do you have on the car now.
Crazy to just take out the alternator. This is a bad design as the alternator is a critical part and should be easily accessible.
Agreed. It’s a sob. Second one I’ve done in 245k miles. Most that I have done in the past took half hour roughly
Im having alot of issues what tools u used
14 socket with ratcher hits the frame
You don't have to take the radiator out.
How? My alternator failed again. Can you please show me or point me to instruction place, so I can learn and replace it faster. Thanks,
HOW??? You mean you have to take the fans out and NOT the radiator itself?
You do when you break that darn piece that he(in the video) and I did lol

No need to remove the radiator, but the airbag and temperature sensor are a bit of a challenge
How did y get that alternator bottom bolt off
- Rotare the wheel to have enough space to work on alternator - Remove the splash shield (plastic underneath the fender)
- Use socket wrench with wobbling attachment with longer extension also.

You dont need to remove one of the bolt. It stays there. You just lossen it. Use swirling tool to get there with long handle ...
When you ask ask the parts store if they can test your alternator. I mean seriously what in the mother Russian hell!
How many miles was on your CX-9 when the alternator failed first?
170,000
Parking lot mechanic breaks a radiator he doesn't even need to remove to change that alternator 😆 epoxy glue?? 🤣 that's an overheat waiting to happen
Upload ur tutorial
Damn I hope this isn't the same for 2007 model lol smh 🤦♂️
Dude don’t have a vlue
Very bad designed . Is no nechanic ingineer for that model car .
Hahaha just move this piece of crap out of the way......
Mazdas are pure trash, but you definitely removed way too much for this job.
