The "Strong Female Protagonist" bullshit is getting WAAAAY out of hand. It's to the point where every video game, book, movie, and television show is defined as having a "strong female protagonist" and it's predictable and BORING. The irony is that they're not all that strong; nearly all of them are Mary Sue's. They need to stop with the trying to beat the feminism drum and return to making good stories. Ellen Ripley is the gold standard of "strong female protagonist." They should use her as a model. She didn't whine about being a woman. The writers and director didn't go out of their way to make her seem oppressed. She just killed some damn aliens; gender was irrelevant.

You didn't play HZD then, because Aloy isn't an overly-feminist character, and they certainly don't play into the 'strong and independent' cliche - to be honest, she's a little on the bland side, but that's because they purposely _don't_ play into the tropes that you claim they do, and instead opt for just having a random 'heroic' protagonist You could literally replace Aloy with a guy, not change any of her dialogue, and it'd be the exact same character. As I said, she's actually a little on the plain side because of it, but the game and lore itself is still solid You want bitchy, bland-faced paragon of feminism, Andromeda - and Andromeda alone - pretty much covered all those bases for the entire f***ing year

I honestly forgot that "Horizon Zero Dawn" existed, also on the Andromeda thing, totally agree; a friend and I rented it, we could barely get through the opening missions it was so boring and bland.
VC Donovan: Most games triple A games are kinda like that unfortunately, everyone copying whatever model of gameplay is popular that season (sandbox, FPS, open world RPG, action-adventure, etc); and once in a great while a game breaks the mold, does something impressive you remember it for... then everyone starts copying them and the cycle repeats.

The lack of traditional dungeons, the equipment system, and the food/cooking system really made the game lame imo. And all those little puzzle room things were repetitive and lame.

Okay, I'll confess, I still enjoyed Horizon: Zero Dawn. I acknowledge it has many... MANY flaws, but I still found it wildly enjoyable. I 100% agree that the rest of the entries on this list were complete garbage.
MistHarbinger no need to "confess" anything, the game is fine. It's got some tedious open world game bullshit going on but let's be honest; he hates it because it was AAA and well recieved. The cherry on top was the female pro. It's a bias reflex for him at this point. I look at his stuff as entertainment not gospel.
It's not bad, just absolutely nothing that hasn't been done better in other games. The setting and history (finding out about how life went extinct the first time) was pretty fascinating but that's sort of it. 6 or 7 out of 10 at best.

I beg to differ when it comes to Horizon Zero Dawn. I find it to be the best game I've ever played on console. Granted, I don't play a lot of triple A titles, mainly because I don't enjoy them, yet Horizon Zero-Dawn is the exception to that rule. The plot, the technology-infused bronze-age, the beautiful creatures you needed a lot of preparation for and caused you to shit yourself when one of them jumped on you unannounced, gave me an experience worth hundreds of hours. Each opponent had several ways of being defeated, and often times making a plan wouldn't be enough when things turned sour. You needed to be flexible and innovative in each encounter.

I beg to differ when it comes to Horizon Zero Dawn. I find it to be the best game I've ever played on console. Granted, I don't play a lot of triple A titles, mainly because I don't enjoy them, yet Horizon Zero-Dawn is the exception to that rule. The plot, the technology-infused bronze-age, the beautiful creatures you needed a lot of preparation for and caused you to shit yourself when one of them jumped on you unannounced, gave me an experience worth hundreds of hours. Each opponent had several ways of being defeated, and often times making a plan wouldn't be enough when things turned sour. You needed to be flexible and innovative in each encounter.
