Thank you so much for sharing your story. Although I could afford a Leica I would not feel comfortable to go out and shoot with an expensive camera. A Fuji would seem a better fit to me. I’d have to scratch any Leica itch by renting one which I will do at some point.
Nice photos. Thanks! I have not used Leicas very much. I had a M9 and a 50 1,4 asph but when I got the first Sony A7 I sold it. I still have a CL a some wide Voigtlanders 21 & 15mm lenses and I will keep them. The Leicas felt to expensive to run around with for me and the way I take pictures. I have used the compact rangefinders like Yashica CC, GSN and Lynx f1.4 and the Konica S3 a lot back in the day and I liked them a lot.
Thank you! I can see replacing the M9 with an A7... The rangefinder is an acquired taste, some people love it, some people don't. I am on the side that likes rangefinders, but frankly I agree they are too expensive for what they are. They are beautiful and you can focus them super fast, but then again my X100V is like that too.
Very solid time frame! And good rangefinder style photos. I started with parent's camera, which is FED-2 .So, it was natural to get to some M use at the time they were affordable. Around 2015-2017 film Ms were still under 1K USD and not abused M8 became around the same. Best street/people cameras, IMO, but affordably and service are out of my range now. Holding to two Ms I have down from five and they are mostly shelf queens.
Thanks for sharing your relationship with those beautiful cameras. I still have my old Leica M3 with Zeiss 50mm lens. I've always loved 50mm focal length and M3 had the best viewfinder for it. As I can see from your videos you are using many different focal lengths and you clearly do it masterfully!!! But my question is: if you had to choose one focal length for the rest of your life, which would it be? 🙂All best from Poland
That's a hard question to answer. It would be hard to decide between 28mm (as with the Ricoh GR), or 40mm, as in the X-Pro3 with 27mm. If the body is a Leica M, I'd either go with 35 or 50 Summicrons...
Nice work there. Just starting on my M9 journey and still not got that muscle memory in for the focusing, but it will come in time. Loving the camera and whole experience.
Love my M8 and M9 Monochrom. The Mono had its sensor replaced and had under 3000 shots on the shutter when I bought it. The only thing for me that comes close in terms of size to quality ratio of the Leica is a Micro Four Thirds camera as most full frame and APSC mirrorless cameras are still rather bulky, especially with the lenses. I was tempted for a Fuji xe-4 or something similar with the 27mm 2.8 but instead picked up a Ricoh GR3x for that equivalent focal length and it’s even more compact
That’s a good point about size/quality ratio. and TH e GRs are certainly at the top of that scale. I do think something like a x100v is close too. I sold the M9 during that brief period when Leica wasn’t repairing them anymore but third party repairs were not available yet. Not perfect timing, but it’s what it is. pretty happy with the Ricoh and Fuji in the street now.
@@JuanBuhler I had the x100f and had to let it go when I got the opportunity to get an M8 at a steal of a price. It was a brilliant camera and really helped improve how I take my photos. However the OVF wasn’t great in it and I found myself always using the EVF option on its hybrid. I’ve been very tempted to pick up the original x100 but the prices are rising a lot so I can’t justify it
Ha! That’s a hard question. It would most probably be the x100v, although the GR is also a close candidate. From the cameras I have now, candidates would be the GR, the x100v and the xt-3 with a few lenses. In general, I should probably say a Leica M11 or Q2, although those seem like they are too expensive for what they offer compared to others. Haven’t tried the Q2 though, and I’m not sure I want to, because that might end up being a very expensive test 😂
@@JuanBuhler Thank you! I am looking for used GR's. Would love to see what you think about Leica Q series. I was disappointed to hear about your experience with the m8 and m9 bodies you had in the past
The M6 is still way too expensive for me to justify buying for street shooting, or ANY Leica camera, digital or film. So many better cameras out there for much cheaper, I don't understand the fascination with Leica. I guarantee you it's not about the image quality. Maybe it's more about the well made construction than anything.
For me it's the rangefinder focusing. If you get used to it and learn it well, it becomes magical. Your fingers do the focusing and you don't think about it. That said I agree, too expensive for what they are. As I say in the video I wasn't lucky with the digital Leicas, so there's also that, at least for me. For the money I would expect more reliability than a 15 year old Canon, not less. The M6 I keep because well, I have it, I don't need to sell it, and I know that if I sell it I will never have another one, because of the reasons above :)
Fantastic images, thanks for sharing.
Many thanks!
You're such a wonderful street photographer of modern time.

I love your work Juan. Thanks for sharing. Leica is... don't get me started... haha
Thank you!
Heh, Leicas can be love/hate, I get it... 🙂
@Juan Buhler I am sorry that you had a cracked sensor on a Leica though. Unacceptable. Really like my new Nikon Z5.

I myself just got an M6 and also own a FUJI X-PRO-3, THE only DIGITAL Leica i will get is the next Q SERIES, hopefully THE Q3.
I am afraid of trying the Q series because I might like it too much 🙂

It totally comes with practice. Then if you stop for some time, when you pick it up again it just takes a few hours to be back in shape. Have fun!
@@JuanBuhler I’m loving it. It’s a camera, not a computer. Just uploaded a test video of some work of mine.
