- This is going to be a long journey fellas. Lots of late cold nights in the garage. We are going to have to remove all the rust and Schultz that has been added and preserve the car for many more years to come.

Imagine having a ramp and not using it on a job that entirely involves the underside of the car 🤣🤣
You need to get over the whole lift thing 😂. Absolute madness having a lift and not using it for a job like that.
Never seen a bloke take a car off a ramp and work on the floor before
Adam, don't be scared of the lift I install these as my full time job, they are really safe and would be so much easier to work on the car if you use it as intended. This car is being given the love it should always have had, can't wait to see the progress over the winter, I'm guessing now you'll do more than you bargained for😊
Looks like he's got a no name ChiCom one... Hence the trepidation.
@@worndisk320it’s an expensive twin Busch from Germany
@@tonyford7987
It will say "Designed & engineered in Germany" , but in reality it's made in china.
That’s a quality lift brand but I don’t think his floor 6in deep and reinforced
Twin busch is a quality lift a lot of professionals use them. The concrete underneath might not be up to it so better to do it on the floor if it's going to be there for a while. Consider getting a rottisserie spit adam👍🏻
Love watching this, but seriously put it back on that ramp! I’d put additional props if you’re nervous but save your back 😊
Yes x100 and would be easy to add 4 strong props if you don’t trust it
That ramp is safer than axle stands btw mate, if the ramp was ever to fail it would drop about 2 inch on to safety locks/nuts and no more. It's scary at first being under them but you get used to it, definitely utilise it as much as you can, your body will thank you later
I think he is more worried about it yanking itself out of the thin garage slab and falling on him than the lift actually failing. Would have been better off with a 4 poster.
always disconnect the negative first, because your ratchet is live and can short against the body doing the positive first.
Fair point 👍🏼
I was thinking negative first, you beat me to it
Re-connect the negative last too Adam.
Class vid Adam !
Good tip but the ratchet isn't live, it's just a conductor. Sorry couldn't help myself😅
Get yourself 4 oil drums to place under wheels when its on the ramp for piece of mind
Bit of an odd question mate. But if you really don't trust the lift for whatever reason? Why is it in your garage when it could be in mine. lol.
Exactly 😂 I’ll have the fucker. I’d sleep under my car.
You just know it’s going to get more in depth as you go. Can’t help yourself and it will gradually become a full underside restoration. 👍
That’s exactly what I’m scared of 😂
Great content Adam, we all. Know your OCD will lead you down a huge rabbit hole ❤
@@Adam151082but will be worth it. 😊
@@Adam151082once completed though you'll be over the moon with it
@@Adam151082 Hard and horrible work but it will pay you back many times over. Looking forward to seeing you sorting out the overspray on those ventilation flaps with some G3 - you know it's gonna happen!
The connectors on the fuel lines and if you push the small tabs at the side and the push towards you then pull they come off I think and I wouldn't have just cut the good ridge hose mate
Getting stuck in, well.done. Top tip for removing shultz, heat gun and a scraper to get the majority off, then the wire wheel.
Autosmart Tardis will get all that underseal off on the heat shield etc. I had it all over a DC5 I had and cleaned it up no bother.
Whoever painted that must have proper half arsed it the over spray is mad! good luck with this Adam I could imagine how long this must take love the videos ❤
Hi Adam
Are you going to build a little 'booth' around the car so you don't get Shultz splattering your garage and your lovely white 3 door? I've done similar before with plastic sheeting, kind of like a mini paint booth, but I've also bought a cheapo gazebo and used that, then slung it when I was finished.
Great videos mate, absolutely love them.
Your content is getting better as the weeks go on.keep up the good work.Great to see these cars been restored. 🚘🚘
I’m glad your tackling this first over the winter, your garage is gonna get covered
adam, use jenolite gel on the rusty metal before you prime it with etch primer. take the plastic oversills off. treat any rust you find it will only ever get worse. good luck
On those aluminium heat shields, they suffer from electrolytic corrosion between the ally and the steel fixings, so they rot out around all the mounting points. They're compressed aluminium foil. I've repaired them before by using bits of beer cans and aluminium tape to remake the sections that have corroded. Once you get a few layers of tape on you can use a hammer & dolly to compress it and it looks OEM.
I repaired ones on my daily BMW 2 years ago and they are still holding up.
A mate of mine has a two post lift at home. I've used it a few times. They should have a mechanical ratchet safety spall (like on a car handbrake). The lift will make clicking noises as it goes up as it passes the teeth on the ratchet.
Once you've got the lift as high as you want, you let the lift drop until it catches on the spall. It won't fall on you once it's locked mechanically.
I don’t get having a lift and working on the floor the risk off being crushed is far far greater! Lift the car with driver level with the post lift a few inches and do a skate test then u far safer under there than on stands wratchet strap it to the legs if your if u that bothered u can’t jump out the way on stands 🫡
The cars looking genuinely better with your hard work and original parts👍 and you can't go wrong with those wheels on a Ford👌
So satisfying this and knowing you will end up doing a full underside resto is even more satisfying on the plus side for you once its done xome the summer you will know exactly what the car is like with no more hidden suprisies and will be able to enjoy it even more
I would forget how to put it all back together mate. The car really deserves your time and its really interesting to see the progress. Cheers.
Have you looked at Lanoguard Adam ? I stripped out the back suspension of my old Volvo, cleaned off all the rusty crust which was either schutz of thin scabby paint, Lanoguard covered over the work really well.
If I had a ramp I'd be doing the same. It looks like your garage is perfect, lots of space, warm and dry. Crap job at the time and you'll find some new gremlins but it will be worth it in the long run mate
And why are you scared of the ramp. For it to come down, doesn't it need to go up first
Good job mate, please use a redundant support when working under the car.. that means the car can never fall on you when the jack tumbles over.
Hi Adam, you kicked my OCD right in today mate.... battery negative off 1st and back on last pleeeeeeease..!!!!!
Glad to see your removing the mess someone has made spraying underseal over rust and everything in sight..! The car in general is looking in good nick..Alex.
I had to go bed for a hour after watching that it made me knackered just watching how much work that is .. . Wow I take my hat of to you what a job to take on fair play
great car, someones done some real bodge jobs on car all the under spray sealer and that messy grease around tank connections, good to see you doing the jobs properly and saving a great car.
If you need a good rust converter I recommend Bilt Hamber Hydrate 80 turns black when dry
Why did man buy a ramp and not use the ranp mind boggling it would have made life a lot easier
They have safety lock on them Adam
I have done almost exactly same job to mine. Fuel tank hose connection part was so rusty that i have to make new one from stainles steel. I seal it whit large o-ring. There was lot of engineering.
My god this must have been one of the £8k shitters that used to hang around on ebay for years back in the day before Cosworths finally started climbing again in value, to have had such Stevie Wonder bodges and paint done to it. I am sure you will do the car proud Adam, I remember when I had such enthusiasm for them, getting covered in shite on my back for hours pulling them apart in a cold garage, with grazed bloody knuckles from cruddy, rusty rounded off nuts and bolts.
I’ve worked on cars for the last 34years but still find myself watching your videos. 👍 they’re a credit to you Adam. Fair play. Keep up the good work fella 👍👍👍
Have a 2 post lift myself, takes time to build confidence working underneath. Suggest you buy some of those 2 ton tall axle stands. They from 900mm upwards. For me i have made some 500mmx500mmx500mm alignment tables which i can use if need be.
love it, you have to get some confidence in the lift. it would make your life so much easier
if the underseal got a sqash to it when poked I found either a citrus industrial cleaner that smelt of orange juice, i forget the name or soaking with petrol after removing the crust off was almost as good. there was a time I was bored workin on cossies, felt endless 20 years ago. miss it now.
I don’t know how you remember how everything goes back together!
Credit wear credit is due theres a lot of work you have to do look like you made a great start to whats going to be a long process genuine ford parts are available for the ford escort cosworth if you are member of clubs or even ebay or facebook or escort breakers that are around well done so far Adam on your work/video👍
Told you this before always always remove the negative 1st. Then if your spanner touches any body work it won’t short out and risk setting fire to the hydrogen gas from the battery
Glad somebody else spotted this. Especially important to know what should be connected first and last for battery, and for jump starting.
Having seen how methodical you was on the Sapphire, I’m thinking this will be a full on resto. Like Paul’s said about that 3dr he’s doing for the elderly gent, where you stop is the biggest decision. That Schultz work is horrendous so, no matter what, it’s going to be miles better.
Better off doing in Ramo if unsure put an engine/gearbox prop under either end id tryst a trolley jack less 😮
I just take my tank out my rs to do the underside aswell this winter I have to do it on the floor your lucky to have a ramp
Great job Adam that's my viewing taken care of over the winter. Good luck..
Watching this reminded me of when we stripped the cossie estate down ,if its worth doing its worth doing well ,full strip ,powder coat everything, rebuild the diff ,uprate all the bushes replace all the brake and fuel lines ,fit a brand new exhaust, refit then attack the front end. It's a cossie after all, it's worth doing and it's worth doing well.
The heatshield has those penny washers for a reason. Over time the steel fixings holding it up react with the alloy heatshield and the holes dissolve. The washers effectively plug the holes and stop it dropping. When you put it back, coat the penny washers and the hidden side of the heatshield with Bilt Hamber Dynax UB. The aerosol is good for spraying over the surface areas, and they also do a tub for brushing onto small stuff like washers or grease nipples (you will wonder why you never bought the brush-on tub earlier, it's brilliant). Water spray etc won't shift it, and as it is inert it will prevent the corroded holes in the heatshield from getting worse.
It can feel a thankless task getting the underside done, but when sorted properly it's one of the best things you can do to have confidence the car will last for years to come.
Hi Adam if you use any type of wire wheel to clean that black shit off, it will just clog warm it up with a heat gun and use a scraper It will come a lot easier. 👍
Hey Adam love your videos and the progress on the cossie, just a heads up to put some old wheels under the sills on the car so if it should fall it goes onto them and not squash you, bloke got killed near me working on his car on axel stands and he was a mechanic.
Top work as ever Adam . Here for the long haul on this one . Can't wait to see how it turns out under there .
Love watching you, just reminds me of when I done exactly the same job on my Scorpio complete strip down, the only problem I had was trying to remove the bolts from the drive shafts had to cut some of them off, can’t believe the crap someone has put on yours, keep smiling ❤.
Looks pretty fresh that underseal and very thick. I walk away from cars that have been undersealed like this, usually it's to hide some nasties
My thoughts too
You can already see by some of the exposed suspension mounts and similar bits and bobs that there looks like quite a bit of brown stuff under it. Suspect it was sprayed on quickly after the respray, rather than treating it properly. I hope Adam isn't going to regret this car....
Wonder who did it 😂
@@benbirch2393probably the last people to work on it over ten years ago hence the deterioration
Ill just give the exhaust a quick jet wash ....lol ... The quality of work Adam does there is no way he is gonna do that
if you a bit nervous about the car being unstable on the lift or small stands the ones i have are 10 ton bus / lorry ones, i've not got them for the weight as thats overkill on a 1 ton car but i have a mid rise lift and the 10 ton stands go up high enough i can sit on the floor upright and still have head space, i couldnt get a full size lift as the garage roof is not high enough
the stands are a 4 leg type not the normal three leg, i've seen in a later vid you probably going to put the car on a spit for welding but if you want a very stable set of axle stands take a look at those
taking a look for them, sealey AS10 and sealey AS10H
When you said you didn't wanna do it because it's a proper mare, I thought 'how bad can it really be' .... and cut to you literally removing everything! ... fair play to you pal! 👌 .. I noticed some great camera work about 10min in too haha! Good work both of ya! 👌 😁
Didn’t your ramp come with a safety check ticket or professional fitting that you don’t trust it? Not a dig. Love your videos 👌🏻
All I want is a ramp to do my cossie and waiting for me work shop to be done first an your doing it on the floor when u have a ramp 😐your not right in the head 😂
Class camera work from ya daughter. Great to get the little 1s involved. Keep up the great videos Adam 👍
Fair play to you, mate.
A massive amount of graft involved in getting it done, but it will be so very worth it.Massive respect for anybody who tackles this type of work, themselves.
Love watching the restorations, on the Lancer Register.
The money you’ll save doing it yourself is huge.
I got quoted 20 k to do a full underside restoration on my Evo 5, and its in good nick underneath!😳
Saying that, thats getting the whole of the underside to “better than factory fresh”, but still..........
Will be spot on when it’s done, might be easier to stonechip and paint it whilst it’s all off, after it’s all cleaned up/repaired, cracking video.👍
You need something that’s going to dissolve some of that Shultz before you start. You’ll just gum a million wire wheels up with it otherwise. Some kind of thinners on a rag, maybe even some of the petrol from that tank.
Another great video Adam, its a good day when you upload. Love the Cosworth collection.
To think that when you got this l thought, what a lovely example in red which l myself would have been happy with ! Hope you sort out the issues mate !
My opinion, if you're going this far you might aswell go all the way and make it as new and mint. Loving this series.
Enjoying your videos on the Escort mate, but you're bloody crazy not using that lovely new ramp for doing this job. I would do anything for the space & ramp you have. I can't even open one door fully in my garage it's so narrow.
Hi when you jack front corners up do the doors shut properly? If not inbox me ,Neil...
The underside restoration you did on the four door Sierra was awesome Adam, so I’m looking forward to seeing you transform this car❤.
Oh I done all that on my singer chamois 😊 an absolute mare of a job so well done and looking forward to seeing the results now
Great video , i am looking forward to watching your great car getting well looked after , cheers
I would make some supports for the ramp if your not confident in it as is. and get in up on there
I think for what its worth you should take off the suspension etc to get full access to it all so you only need to do it once and have peace of mind in a job well done , cheers from NZ.
That amount of Schutz is just criminal 🤦🏼♂
That is heartbreak hotel there Adam!!!
Going to be a great project for the Winter months 👌
I hope your cameraman is well paid, Dutch angles and tracking shots, he’s got skills!
A good winter project , I’d get some carpet off cuts as the concrete floor will be cold . Also make it more bareable for you
Wow, you’ve got some motivation Adam! Well done for getting stuck into such a mucky job.
Get some bilt hamber products to help with the rust and sealing it after!
Might aswel weigh that ramp in 😂
I striped the bottom of my escort Adam back to bear metal took me a week 8h a day but we'll worth it in the end I ended up painting in in raptor epoxy primer then tinted the raptor and painted it body colour looks mint
Classic bit of weight saving about to happen. Hornets nest springs to mind.
Big fella, always watch your videos, amazing talent you have considering your not a fully qualified mechanic! Make it look so easy too! Cars are minters, I wrote my cossie off a few yrs back, but hey ho your vids cheer me up, you are just a natural mate.
You're doing a fantastic job mi old marra, I'm really enjoying these videos, great content.
Fantastic video Adam love your enthusiasm on keeping a classic on the road looking forward to next video 🇬🇧👍
Great job. Reminds me of the good old day when I was involved in doing 2 saphs and my fezza turbo
Some ones used grease to either fry to stop a leak or a smell of fuel going into the car
Cheers Adam, the only sure way with Rust is chop it out and new Metal, then Zinc Primer. Good luck 😉
Its a great winter project mate, when I was a biker I used to look forward to winter to do all the projects I'd put off during the summer months.
3:06, mate those ramps have safety mechanisms in them that in the event something catastrophic happens it auto locks itself, its a feature in all car ramps.
Alot graft there Adam.but if a job worth doing well ,your the guy to tackle it.good video.
Amazing job Adam your so brave taking that on ow yes it was good 2 see the UGGAADUGGAS back mate 😊
Thanks again again, Adam!
Love to see your videoes and your explaining and showing stuff :)
Good for newbies as myself :)
06:48 "Amy, just leaving these in the kitchen luv, mind the bairn doesn't damage them !" 😆😆😆😆
Good plan Adam, get the bad job done over winter, it’ll go FASTER in the summer without all that weight of shutz!!!!!
Was hoping youd go for tackling the underside . Knowing its just as clean as the top is so satisfying.
You're doing a cracking job, well done, son...
I saw all that black stuff on one of Paul's video's, before you bought the car...
Just stay focused and stick to plan A...
It'll be a good project for winter...
👍🤙🙂🇳🇿
For safety reasons place a wheel under each side of the car . If it falls off the axle stands you won't get crushed 👍
Brill as always bud! I will be doing this one day im sure. I wonder what the best way is to remove the old paint chip/underseal paint when its that thick? It just seems to smear and flick looking at your video. cant wait for the next Vid to see how you get on.
Keep up the good work Adam. I believe your Cossie will be a lot safer car when your finish ( 30 year old bolts replace, fuel leak sorted, which you where not aware of and some 30 year rusted parts replace. Should be a lot better car to drive to). Looking forward to the next vlog on this process. Will you be using a product like POR 15?
Good effort fella. I would defo get it back on the ramp though. Way safer than axle stands. Probably be a good idea to get some specs on when you’re under there too! I always looks forward to watching these having just got an Escort Cossie myself. Going to do a video of how I imported it to the US from Italy. Will be fun to see how much you uncover. Videos are getting better and better. Good luck with the resto!
Best of luck with all the ongoing work on the car 👍👍👍
Good job Adam👍 Your doing a bang up job mate.
