The brand new ETS2 DLC - Beyond the Baltic Sea - is out! Here is an in-depth look at all the new locations and my thoughts on the expansion as a whole. Quite a bit of work was put into this one - hope you all enjoy!
I also released a guide to all the changes in the recent ETS2 1.33 patch. You can catch it here if you missed it: ruclips.net/video/rwPfBhhYhtg/видео.html
Meerkat Kristof I think Paul used an AI traffic mod to make it more realistic
I haven't used any mods in this video. As for the tandem trailer, I suppose it could be an easter egg clue.
Why dont u try farming simulator 19 .....
U will be great in that ........
Did you buy it or did you get it for free ??
Dude. I know its hard to pronounce Lithuanians citys (even that I am from Lithuania) but when u pronounced Klaipeda, Sialiai, Panevezys and Utena it was fucking funny as fuck XDDDDDDDDDDD u made me laugh so hard. Kaunas and Vilnius you pronounced very good. But still, good work mate. Always a big pleasure to watch your reviews :)
No city names were harmed during the making of this video.
Well siauliai and panevezys, utena ,klaipeda those were the worst for me, but he did say vilnius and kaunas right
Paulius Morkevičius Lithuanias pronunciation just... Dissatisfied but yeah, Kaunas and Vilnius was close
I’m no russian but with Kaliningrad I always emphasise the LIN the most so it’s like KaLINingrad, rather KAliningrad
@@pauliusmorkevicius633 Yup, still not sure about the scandinavian pronunciations, but lithuanian ones sounded the most butchered to me...admitedly, ours is not an easy language to pick up.
"Tallinn is a small city with port" *cries in estonian*
This is probably the only time ever my small hometown and some of the streets and junctions i see every day are featured in a popular video game.
Tallinn is not actually a small city, it is capital of Estonia :D But I assume it is small in game, as there is no truck roads going trough it :)
I was referring to the size of the implementation in ETS2, not its actual real-world size
Don't say stuff like that, the fanboys are gonna put you down...
Helsinki, Riga, and Vilnius are also capital cities, but he didn’t mention those.
The problem with the game... You cant get the feeling of size. You visit a city, you only visit related parts, there could be a lot of roads that are blocked and big city views behind it. So to feel youre in a huge city but your huge truck wont be allowed in.
426,538 people it is one tiny capital imho
Greeting from Finland, you almost nailed every name in here, kotka and kouvola went well...
Lucky that there wasent ääneskoski
Suomi mainittu!
torille
He nailed Šiauliai though.
Greeting finland from hungary!
torille
Thankfully the border checkpoints don't ever find the piles of cocaine I have stashed in my load of tomatoes.
that building in riga is called VEF culture palace
Hot damn, SCS has done absolutely PERFECT job modeling Kotka's water (!) tower. I visit that place every summer, so it really feels warm inside seeing it done so faithfully. Mad credit to modeling team for such attention to detail!
Your Lithuanian city name pronounciation cracked me up ;) Great video!
Ikr
I did warn you in the video!
@@squirrel you pronounced Vilnius okay, and Kaunas wasn't that bad. BUT Klaipeda and Panevezys made me tear up :D, though I tried to say them in english and got the same results ^^, unless you know how Lithuanians pronounce the names, they're damn hard to say. Great vid!
Same
i love the DLC, bought it the second it become available. I'm finnish, live in Tampere (well, until fourth of december when i move to helsinki) and i find it to be relatively realistic. all the signs, names, and stuff are all there, smaller than in real life, but still there. The nice reststop in Tampere is located at Pirkkala, and i think it's meant to be a finnish reststop chain called Pirkkalan ABC. there is a burger place as well as a small shop in there in real life. i was a little dissapointed in Helsinki, since there isn't anything else than an airport (if i remember correctly, and the dock). they seemed to make Turku a bigger place, even though Helsinki is Finnish capital. Can't really say about other towns, but it's very well done DLC as usually from SCS and it's nice being able to drive on common roads.
Ps. your pronounciations in finnish were pretty accurate, certainly enought for any finnish person to understand which town you were talking about.
Helsinki is surprisingly spot on actually, the port and the district of Ruoholahti are fairly accurately modeled. Can't really blame SCS for the fact heavy trucks are banned in most of downtown, that's literally the only legal way out :)
@@Kristofburger yeah i agree. But still there is other stuff outside kehä 3 that they could have placed there, just to make it feel like abit more lived in. But still it's great that they made it
@@Kristofburger But what makes Helsinki unique in a way in real life is the fact that heavy trucks drive right into the downtown so that they can get onto the ferries. (Katajanokka & Olympiaterminaali). It's also a bit weird that you have to drive all the way around through Kehä III to get into Helsinki from the east. But hey, that's why we have ProMods, to fix things like this.
I stand corrected, there indeed is legal access to Katajanokka and Olympiaterminaali from the east. Through traffic is still banned though, so in that case there would be an eastern detour instead. Realistically speaking, if you want access to both directions you will need both the western and eastern ports.
@@Kristofburger i didn't know that. Thanks for sharing. I quess they decided it was too much work to do both east and west harbours. But considering the amount of work needed for the whole update, and amount of stuff you get it's totally worth 18€ in my opinion
haha your Estonian city names cracked me up! great video
i know trucks are not supposed to go in the cities but they could add some streets so you can still go in
10:32 - I know where I'm going if I get this DLC xD
I live in lithuania and im so happy about this and it's not bad if you cant pronounce it it's OK
I laughed so hard when you tried to pronounce Panevėžys Correctly 😂😂😂
Klaipėda pronounciation was the funniest
@@lukasrozenas9526 Yea. He pronounced right Vilnius and Kaunas
They even included iconic circle k right before latvian border.
Drinking game - Take a shot every time squirrel says “industrial” good luck 😂😂
Or "rather"
Great review! Great quality as always. I know our pronunciations are hard, so I feel you. Keep up!
Hey! Lithuania is my country!
did he pronounce it right?
Is England your city?
He did it well enough, but he had some serious troubles with Panevėžys
@@mellow3634 ye XDD
@@mellow3634 he didn;t mention Mažeikiai though
You put so much effort into your videos squirrel keep it up
At 4:02 you can see Helsinki's Länsi-satama (West-port/harbor) and its terminal 2 (the modern looking building).
The ring road detour around Helsinki is realistic because heavy traffic is banned in most of downtown, and I assume this is also the case for Riga and Kaunas.
Some research gone into that! It's the details like operating trams, that drawbridge and whatnot that make the difference for me. Going to enjoy this one that's for sure
Seeing my hometown Pärnu in ETS2 is really amazing. Hope you'll roll through Estonia in your upcoming videos.
Well Olkiluoto isn't a town, it's a nuclear power plant. But then again now I get to haul loads to my actual place of work \o/
I've put in a few hours into this DLC and one thing I noticed is the green phase starts to blink when it's about to end. I love this and I want this to be in real life here in germany.
I just bought this DLC - do not regret it one bit!
Thanks for the review, excellent job as always!
Lithuania, finally.
In many larger Finnish cities heavy truck traffic is heavily limited and that is why it makes sense they did not include inner cities in this DLC for the largest ones. Truck traffic is anyways mostly directed to the ring roads and some specific routes like the one to Helsinki port which is in inner city.
I have the same pfp
Had someone tell me i fell off oooh i needed that 😏
6:06 hi paul i wanna say something about these roundabout, actually there are not roundabouts, but they are roundpoints. On a roundabout, you dont need to give a way, but on a roundpoint, you do have to give a way to the cars that are coming from your right. It's the same thing when u are at an intersection with no signs or shark teeth on the road, then you also need to give a way to the driver that comes from your right
”A horse statue” 3:03 I think you mean the great Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim, an aristocrat divisional commander of the great war, president of Finland 1944-1946,Field Marshall of the Finnish army, and many other things.
The Scania dealer ship supposedly located in Paldiski is actaully in Tallinn. It's quite confusing because pretty much Tallinn and Paldiski are almost connected in ETS.
Very nice, I have got my DLC, and i really look forward to check it out
Wow. I'm from Kaunas. And those little details with 1000money building and that train are super realistic
In Israel the green lights are flashing b4 turning to yellow and red. Mostly on high-speed roads. If its a 50 kph zone inside a town or a city, the green light will not flash.
Thanks for the review.
in estonia it will
ITS NOT A STATUE OF A HORSE ITS A STATUE OF MANNERHEIM, ONE OF THE GREATEST HEROES OF FINLAND REEEEEE
And not known throughout the rest of the world, so no wonder, he didn't know! ;)
I am actually not sure if that's sarcasm or not.
@@BsKB1000 I can't speak for other countries, but Mannerheim is well known in Latvia.
@@BsKB1000 I'd that he is fairly well known in Scandinavia, at least among the older part of the population.
You did absolutely good pronouncing Estonian city names! Greetings!
Thanks for using Narva in the start. Lol I live in Estonia
The horse statue is Mannerheim patsas (Mannerheim statue)
Maybe you should have to purchase a visum or working permit to drive through checkpoints. If so, one would have to work in central europe before having the experience (or something similar) before you can create hubs or deliver to other countries. This would have to be renewed ever so often, and that would make the choice of main hub more important. Maybe there could be an element of sister companies working in different regions.
One thing to note is the frequent speed limit changes, they can easily catch out an inattentive driver :)
9:10 that's the Culture Palace. Government buildings are in the old town actually
Having now spent some time exploring this DLC, I actually think it's one of the best. The cities themselves aren't particularly interesting (though they are nice and spread out) but the stuff in between is amazing. Great rest area lookouts, little unnamed small towns, some great single lane highways. The scenery is glorious too. It's a better DLC than it looks, even if it doesn't deliver much on the features.
Its funny how that building in Kaunas that has 1000 LTL wrapped around it, is not very far from my home ~1km
Very curious how the tram networks play in the game. A great addition to ETS 2. Won't be able to get this for awhile, need to save up. And it's gonna screw with my trying to get the 100% map completion in the base game again...
You need to save up for a 15€ dlc?
@@palmolive2517 not a lot of people is having great economy system in their life you know...
Congratiolations! You pronounced "Travemünde" more or less correctly!
1 interesting thing i found in Russia was there traffic lights when there traffic lights are green they will blink green to warn drivers they are going to change to red not seen that in any other country think it's a very good idea more countries should do it to stop people from jumping through yellow lights
Amazing video well made :) Just one question how did you do the camera angles? Super job :) happy new year
SCS are such a dedicated developers! Unparallelled! Again, awesome work, well done guys!
@@ReZiN8R they removed the capability of dx9 to run this game tho'...
i so hope they expand finland because having been there when i had a gf in that country its so beautiful and the HCT trailers are really fun to drive around :)
SuddenFool I mean, 90% of the population lives in the south (like Norway)
HCT trailers are probably the main selling point, for me at least.
As a Latvian, I was giggling all the way driving through Riga, but they totally nailed coastal city of Ventspils! :D
Do a drive from Helsinki to Saint Petersburg
The pronuonciation of Utena and Panevežys was amazing..
Cheers from Valmiera!!!
Excellent presentation. Well done.
am i the only one that constantly keeps checking this channel to see if he covered the ATS Volvo VNL, and am surprised its still not here :/
He basically covered it in a Twitch stream. It should be on his Squirrel Plus RUclips channel.
I like how you pronounced Valmiera. In Valmiera the big tower is for television.
So well made! Thank you for this video. :-)
Always up for more Truck Simulator DLC since SCS is awesome like that.
Downloaded it earlier today but not got to play yet.
I have a question in the Fuel Tanks - Umeå to Varkaus you drive a nice rig. i have both mods. But how do you get the paint color to match. i do not seem to be able to get the colors matching
I myself love this DLC, as it adds some more north to the game!
14:27: These border checkpoints are already causing big hold-ups in TruckersMP. I'd personally have an option for a full truck inspection that would delay you by multiple hours.
I see modding-potential when having those border-checkpoint (12:58)!
Imagine adding illegal transports, and you need to get through.
Could get interesting, if someone would take the time for it!
Great video! Glad ETS will have my home country Lithuania, I will definitely buy this DLC :) I have been to all city's apart from Mažeikiai, and I can say they did a great job, I can definitely recognize city's from some details. Klaipėda has a lot of DFDS ferry routes, ant the most popular is Klaipėda - Kiel (Germany), so it is strange they haven't done that. Panevėžys is not a city under construction, more likely it is kinda dying city, everytime I go there it looks empty and sad... I noticed they made the city's sizes not as it is in reality. Vilnius is the biggest, then Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai, Panevėžys Utena and Mažeikiai isn't a big city at all, it just has couple of big industry plants, thats all. They could have done a better job with truck dealers, in Kaunas there is MAN and Mercedes-Benz dealer, in Vilnius there is Volvo, Iveco and Renault, Šiauliai has Scania dealer, but thats just details, so it's ok as it is and I probably forgot many more, thats just what I remembered now.
No Ski Jumping area in Lahti. :( This would have been great to see in the game.
For everything else this DLC is great as all DLC form SCS.
I live in Helsinki and have taken the ferry to travemunde
10:08 you nailed it!
Was waiting for this DLC till the very begining of ETS2
To be honest I really like the border checks, they should also add them between Italy-Switzerland and France-UK
Are you an idiot?
The pronaunciation of Liepaja was the best!
The dieselprice Saint Petersburg & and Kailingsrad is €0,57. When you need to passing a level crossing in Russia you need to stop at the stop line, honk and drive. I miss Lapeënrenta in Finland. I hope that SCS start with rebuilding Poland, UK, Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Going East.
I do love the graphics of the towns. That being said most towns feel cramped because they lack a lot of side roads. Most of the towns I visited were just straight lines with a single side road for jobs. The other towns are oval shaped and again they lack side roads. However I get it. They had to do new 3d assets and their are also a ton of new cities. I just want more side roads inside cities. This is lacking in this new map. I still recommend this map to anyone. Its got a ton of roads and interesting landmarks. Something Italy lacked.
I hope they will add Romania, Bulgaria or Ukraine soon..
Or Belarus.
You will get stolen truck if you go there.
A Balkan DLC would be nice
just do a lil research and you'll find some addons u may download
Romania and Bulgaria would be possible, but Ukraine...very difficult situation now
Please do a video like this for the Black Sea DLC
I was so cracked up, when you pronounced Lithuanian city names :D
It's a beautiful DLC for a beautiful and very interesting part of Europe.
Yes, i've got 1.1 million kms on my profile with Promods & Rusmap involved :))
Kind of sucked to drive around with a different profile to check things out.
But high props to SCS. It's a beauty.
A lot of work for the Promods & Rusmap guys.
I'm especially looking forward to Rusmap St. Petersburg :)
very nice i hope for dlc Spain and portugal next time in the old ets it was a standard dlc in the game
I hope so too
They have confirmed it will not be the next dlc after baltics. But very likely after that. They already have research going on for it.
It wasn't a DLC, but simply part of the map in ETS1. It has to be in the next 3 DLCs, likely the 2nd coming up.
Here is the interview. 16:07 is about the Iberian dlc.
ruclips.net/video/mJkdeIJSUs0/видео.html
@Nikko Romero I assume so, theres a possibility that it will be Ireland though.
You should do a video on flying the PMDG MD-11 on flight sim
Can you make a comparison of the SCS and ProMods version of the Baltic area?
I like you saying hi guys squirrel here 😘😍😍 big love from UK buddy
it just got it very early this morning its great so far
Great review
wow, highways and bridges of Saint Petersburg are really similar to real ones. Great job
You are really the best. No doubt. SCS has done a great job once again.
Cool video squirrel
Helsinki said!! Btw I live such a 25 miles north of Helsinki, 35 miles south of Lahti, 50 miles West of Kotka. And Tampere is 80 miles away. Close? Isn't it? Xd I live in the highest populated area of Finland. There's even 4500 people on a square mile!!
That were some crazy pronounciations, which made my day a better one :)
Will this game install itself on the old overlay 1.32 without problems?
Your antialiasing looks amazing, how can you get it to look like that?
9:22 The TV Tower in Riga is the tallest structure in the entire EU. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riga_Radio_and_TV_Tower
Ah, there's Tampere now. Would be cool if there was Hydraulic Press Channel easter egg.
Smaller DLC than I thought it was going to be. Not an issue just was not sure of the exact location.
9:12 That's not a town hall, it used to be a cinema iirc, but now it's an empty building and nothing is actually going on there. Source: local.
Great great great explanarion about this DLC!!!!!
great review
Many finnish landmarks are spot on... They look like real ones and cities are true as they can be to real life... Example in Naantali, building in harbour is a spot on copy of a real one.... so good job creating this dlc
fwiw I wonder if your physics gripes in first impressions are due to your DAF mod ? I am using the RJL T cab Scania and can notice some good differences , nothing negative, commenting as both a real truck driver, and a games physics producer.
In Greece we also have those round abouts where people coming in have priority. It's completely stupid
