  • Welcome back on the Daily Aviation for a new documentary video about the Lockheed C-5 Galaxy. The C-5 Galaxy is the US Air Force biggest aircraft and although it was produced 50 years ago, it is still in use today and is expected to remain in service for decades to come.

    I had worked on C-5 A, B, C, and M models for over 20 years. I have had the pleasure to see the world because the of the C-5 due to mission or maintenance recovery (they did have problems) and I do miss being around those aircraft and the teams of specialist that kept them going. So many memories....

  • @TheLarinator
    @TheLarinator 3 года назад +6

    That brought back memories. I worked loading and unloading cargo planes when I was in the AF. I got out in '73. Mostly worked on the C-141, C-130, and C-5A. Three planes that I worked on that aren't around anymore are the C-133, C-124, and the C-119. There were some DC-3s and an old Connie we loaded and unloaded that were owned by Reeves Aleutian Airways.

    This situation is not that uncommon. Having done this several times. The nice part about it is that the aircraft opens up at both ends. You just kneel the aircraft at the appropriate setting drive the vehicle on put it in place disconnect the tractor and it drives out. Unless of course it is flying with the trailer. Did this job for 31 years. My favorite aircraft is the C-130 herky bird. Second favorite is the c-141 starlifter.

      The spray is water. It is done for a couple of reasons. A pilot could have taken their last flight, the plane could be retiring, or the commander of the squadron is getting a Permanent Change of Station. It’s a salute to many different things.

    • @davidhardy3993
      @davidhardy3993 3 года назад +5

      The top of the T-tail is 65ft, the cockpit/flightdeck is 30 ft. Also the comment able the “backward technology engines” is grossly wrong. The original TF-39 engines have been replaced over the last decade with CFM-6 engines which are an industry workhorse found on Boeing 747’s, 767’s Airbus products and more. Overall good video, just tighten up on some of the data and specs.
