I was sad when Craig Ferguson left the Late,Late Show ... and being a Yank living in Sydney since 1979 as a teacher after 9 years US Army .... Dame Edna (Barry) was awesome in all Barry's roles, including the "Sandy Stone" show I watch in Sydney. An extremely talented actor.
I'm always amazed at why she/he thinks that "my own shelf in their fridge" line is so funny that she says it nearly every time the royals are mentioned.
The first time I've ever heard Dame Edna give a sincere compliment that wasn't backhanded or sarcastic in some way. It sounds like she was quite impressed, and cracking up the whole time.
She also announced on a show that included Sean Connery that shew was going to do something never done on a talk show before - have a minutes' silence.
I always thought Craig was a good host but here he really shines. I've yet to see a host make Dame Edna laugh so much. Btw she was very sharp on this show!
Dame Edna is pretty much a surreal character, so weird and awesome. Barry Humphries is a dadaist so it fits. The weird thing too is that you forget that it's Barry Humphries, Dame Edna is pretty much a real person. When she's on talk shows like this she's kinda viewed as Dame Edna and not Barry Humphries, it's amazing to own your own character like that.
Dame Edna is always called she or her, never anything male. And that's as it should be. When a comedy talent creates a character and remains in character then the person beneath temporarily doesn't exist. Same thing happened when Paul Reubens invented Pee-Wee Herman in the 1980s. It was like his persona changed altogether while he was in that outfit, hair style and makeup.
Queen of horn-blowing and the cheeky, lovingly-delivered back-handed compliment. 😘 "Horrible stains on bedclothes..." and prostate transplant 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I laughed 'til I cried.
One of the few Dame Edna interviews where the interviewer was as entertaining as the Dame. First prostate transplant in the Southern Hemisphere? "Where else would you get it?" Hahaha. 37:24
Dame Edna is probably the only person that has the same quick comedy reactions that Craig has. Two geniuses. Most host just have to shut up and let her go for it. She's a genius.
This is one of the best episodes. IDK who the hell Dame Edna is but damn she's funny. They were making each other laugh and that's all I need to be a fan of this Dame Edna. Gonna Google all about her now and this episode will be added to my comedy playlist.
Only dame Edna can harness a brilliant comedian like Craig ferguson. You can tell the difference in dynamics from Craig's other guests other than Archbishop Tutu. She's my new addiction
I seriously miss the Craig Ferguson show. Dame Edna was simply maahvelous dahhling, I loved the quick repartee between them, especially the prostate transplant joke. R. I.P. Barry ❤
When someone asks "If you could have dinner with anyone alive or dead, who would it be?, I would say Barry Humphries, (when he was old Barry) he had such great wit and so fast. His command of the language was always surprising and entertaining the way he could make his point and jokes makes me just sit through his interviews with a smile on my face. He was just such a delight.
He has such great wit. His command of language is always surprising. He is such a delight. The past tense references are reserved for those who have died.
(FYI, Dame Edna starts 27:15) RIP, Dame Edna/Barry Humphries; you gave the world decades of the wittiest comedy and fun 🥰. I had to check this out, knowing Dame Edna and Craig Ferguson together would be over-the-top hilarious. Dame Edna's dress is fantastic! I don't know who dressmaker/designer was, but they were some amazing costumes.
The dress (or should I say frock) itself is a hoot, naturally, but I am also really digging the different hued stockings and shoes! So fun and zany. The exchange towards the end about the southern hemisphere is fantastic but I do wonder if Dame Edna would have made a similar remark if Craig had not chimed in. :) Oh, they really should have given this funny lady much more than ten minutes on this episode; Barry Humphries deserves the entire show.
Thank you for this FABULOUS interview with Dame Edna Everage!!! It was probably her best interview on network-teLIEvision, and showed how great you are for the job. Seriously.

Corden cannot be compared in say positive way with Craig Ferguson. The Southern Hemisphere crack - innuendo like that is so far beyond Corden, it'd take his writers a decade to write something like that, and twice as long for Corden to practise delivering it without any hint of him doing a recitation. It's remarkable. They went from the greatest talk show host interviewer, since, in my view, Jack Paar, to a star f***ing, cruel slug, to whom wit and repartee seem foreign concepts. A bestial man who blatantly sucks up to those more famous than himself, and degrades those he views as lower - including his audience, his wife, waiters, and an almost endless list of normal people - little people, as I imagine he refers to them. Only in the metaphor of course.
It's no huge crime. And we Americans could make a list of pronunciations of American words and names that are spoken differently in the UK; but we won't. :)
Woah, kind of weird to stumble across the original episode where “tootsy-fruitsy” & “what’s a-come’n’a-go” both came from! Who could’ve guessed that a slip of the tongue ad lib about Al Gore!? Also, I might be reaching but he also references robot skeletons in the monologue - is this the germination of the idea of Geoff?? This is a truly seminal episode! 🎉💀
Dame Edna complimenting a host on keeping up with her is legendary status.
RIP Barry Humphries

Craig made Dame Edna laugh and he got kudos. Not a lot of hosts can keep up with that level of Dame Edna’s comedy.
Who skipped for Edna
Darragh Gregory meeeeeeee!
Me
Nope
Yes. Sorry to that man.
Oh yes!
Craig “They don’t like me in Scotland “
Edna “They do like you, you’re just thought to be a traitor that’s all”
Lol Brilliant
Craig & Edna ... The king & queen of innuendo! Never seen Edna nearly lose it laughing before!
Its always funniest when that happens. Ive seen that before but not as much as that.
When dames clash. Two quick witted. One of them funny.
Barry Humphries passed away today, age 89. Vale to a legitimate comic genius 😢
Dame Edna, you are a blessing and a curse all at once. 😂 The only person I have seen that can compliment and insult a person in one full sentence. ❤️
I miss Craig's show, he was always my favorite late night talk show, he is so funny, way better than any of the shows now!
WAY WAY WAY better... correct... you are!
that monologue feels prophetic somehow, in the strange way that many of the people he talks about are dead
He used to call himself Bing Hitler. He wasnt funny the either.
Same here.
He got me through the COVID shutdowns! A true gem
The first time I've ever heard Dame Edna give a sincere compliment that wasn't backhanded or sarcastic in some way. It sounds like she was quite impressed, and cracking up the whole time.
It says a lot about Craig that Edna actually, sincerely complimented him on the speed of his wit.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone crack Dame Edna up before!
Joan Rivers
Plenty have. Edna does have a sense of humour don't forget! 😂
“The Rather Late Program with Prince Charles” is one of the most underrated and best sketches ever. 😂
"A monologue interrupted by total strangers"
😂😂😂😂
She also announced on a show that included Sean Connery that shew was going to do something never done on a talk show before - have a minutes' silence.
I’m from Australia and I’ll never think of my Southern Hemisphere the same way again!
Barry Humphries is a comic genius.
R I P "Dame Edna". In spite of the Hell his mother put him through, Barry Humphries became a legend of comedy and we are happier for it.
RIP Barry Humphries. Thanks for all the laughter.
Wow. That was the closest I’ve ever seen Edna come to being upstaged. Hats off to Craig Ferguson!
I can die happy now... Craig Ferguson and Dame Edna
Dame Edna is loving Craig! They really seem to be enjoying each other!
Craig cracked her up, she almost lost it lol
Dame Edna is even more of a legend in the UK than in the US. Been in TV since 1957.
@@thefantasyreview8709 and Australia BH is Australian
Craig was always at his best when interviewing other comedians, especially from the Commonwealth.
Craig's wit is very sharp enough to make Edna/Barry laugh.
Indeed; has to be one of the greatest compliments any comedian can have.
“Where else would you get it?” OMG that was quick! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
sn00gums And it cracked Dame Edna up. Zhe rarely cracks sincerely like that when in character.
I was thinking the same thing! He is so fast and clever.
I always thought Craig was a good host but here he really shines. I've yet to see a host make Dame Edna laugh so much. Btw she was very sharp on this show!
First time ever I saw Humphries checkmated lmao! BUT credit where its due he STAYED in character!

When she's on talk shows like this she's kinda viewed as Dame Edna and not Barry Humphries, it's amazing to own your own character like that.
Well, duh! Many younger people have no idea that Edna is a man.
Dame Edna is always called she or her, never anything male. And that's as it should be. When Dame Edna's "autobiography" was published it was actually displayed in the biography section of my local bookstore.
If you skipped ahead just to watch the Dame Edna interview then you are doing yourself a disservice.
Oh man, I adore Dame Edna. Absolutely magnificent! Lol
Craig Ferguson - the only person to equal Dame Edna with his wit & self possession.
Queen of horn-blowing and the cheeky, lovingly-delivered back-handed compliment. 😘 "Horrible stains on bedclothes..." and prostate transplant 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I laughed 'til I cried.
"The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" is on of very few shows, which make me laugh tremendously. This episode is so good, its pure joy. =)
One of the few Dame Edna interviews where the interviewer was as entertaining as the Dame. First prostate transplant in the Southern Hemisphere? "Where else would you get it?" Hahaha. 37:24
Hardly.
That is the most quick witted joke I’ve ever heard
Very few people could match Dame Edna's wit, Craig was one of them.
Still is!!
Dame Edna is probably the only person that has the same quick comedy reactions that Craig has. Two geniuses. Most host just have to shut up and let her go for it. She's a genius.

Dame Edna is a character developed over years by Barry Humphreys. Fantastic. He was knighted by the Queen for his portrayals.
Dame Edna has Asbergers.

Purely for comedy and less for politics…Craig knew well
Miss you Craigy Ferg. Such a funny show with the Dame🤣
That was so funny beginning to end. Dame Edna loved Craig and he really had her laughing and tongue tied..very cleaver witted those two are!

Rest in Paradise, dear Dame Edna.....we need you now more than ever.
Dame Edna and Craig were great! ;-)
That Dame Edna segment was hilarious!
Highest compliment ever. If The Dame almost breaks character in response... Craig and Norton. No other peers.
Norton is a hack.
The best theme song of all...and the best host. WHERE ARE YOU, CRAIG? Why did you go away???
RIP Dame Edna
Craig & Edna were well-matched that night!
Here's the talk show we need: Craig, JRT, Joel McHale, and Dame Edna. I'd watch the shit out of that.
Omg I love this one

God Dame Edna 👍👍👍👍👏👏👏She/He is brilliant & lovely! I do believe in one of my Mothers many hair colours..she had this one!
Now i feel like watching Dame Edna's neighbourhood watch. RUclips, don't fail me now....

They are both treasures.

raphael44ify yeah. First time I’ve ever seen the Dame “break character”...
Not upstaged - just momentarily matched her. And was rewarded.
Pure Genius from Dame Edna, as per usual! Happy Birthday, Vicki .. Oh.. and who was that stunner sitting beside you??
High praise indeed from Barry
Me too. Dame is so funny without being dirty or trashy, she's one of kind for sure.
That was a good interview. Thanks for the laughs.
It’s rare that you see someone actually make Edna laugh. It happened with Robin Williams, too.
Two genius wits at work/play.
