    Of all the wonderful things you have done, this is my favorite. It’s a combination of all aspects of your channel: beautiful music, an outstanding violin, it’s proud maker, superb camera work and editing, and magical playing.

      Wow, that's such a compliment, thank you so much! When I first played this instrument, I knew we had to make a series with Elizabeth. It's been so fun, and so worth it!

    I'm not a violinist, but I really liked the tone of that violin. It wasn't screechy! The sound was deep, dark and interesting. I'm also sure Katha's talent brought the best out of it!

    Beautiful playing Katha! I got my violin back from Elizabeth today, she did the most impressive admirable and beautiful work exceeding the highest, most demanding expectations. A real artist and exceptional human being.

    Put the expensive headphones on for this ...... Ahhhhh that sound is soooo beautiful! And although it's amazing to hear all those fantastic older instruments, working with young luthiers is about creating the next generation of amazing instruments. You can hear that it's still sort of just being playd in but the sound, the articulationis so clear and I fully agree the lower register is amazing.
    What's also worth considering is that this instrument will just get better and better as it ages.
    Thank you

    Seems wider than standard, like a Maggini. I like the lows and the slightly dark open sweetness (it's a Tootsie Roll), which people mostly find in antique instruments.

    Nice, full and balanced sound on that Violin. Sounds like it was inspiring to play. It looks like the body may be somewhat larger than a Strad, and perhaps a little wider in the Lower Bout. Hard to tell from a video. 🤷‍♀

    I know this is RUclips and sound is not super Hi-fi, but I love the sound of your instruments; sounds just as good as the "old masters". I'd imagine you are well paid but still more affordable than a strad!

    In the 1980s I had the opportunity to try a Hieronymous Amati violin, the finest instrument I had ever played on. Very rich tone.The $150,000 asking price was too steep for me at the time.

    Very interesting instrument, both powerful and well balanced. It sounds different to the one you normally play which has a bit more edge. Elizabeth has done well to produce a modern instrument that works so well. PS : Nicely played as well. 😊👍

      @@finemasterviolins I’m not very keen on the look of the varnish of your violin that I have seen and the tone of the only one I tried was a bit strident. Presumably your others are different.

      Hi Eva, so glad you liked this one! Actually, it all came down to you- I met Elizabeth and played this instrument in your living room! I was so taken with the violin that I knew I had to interview her. So this series wouldn't have happened at all if I hadn't gotten that invite to your luthier and artist meet up! Thank you! :)

    I love the sound of this violin. It has that woody "knock" to the tone that is the thing that always pulls me in about any great string instrument. Sounds old. Sounds expensive!!!

    • @aTonalHits
      @aTonalHits  2 года назад +1

      It just goes to show you really don't need to fork out millions for a good instrument! I don't know how much she's selling this for, but it's definitely not that!!

  • @trevorpinnocky

    should be very nice once it opens up. sounds like it could use a little adjustment. most likely a bridge refitting or the sound post is a little off. very very promising tone ...

  • @Rkolb2798
    @Rkolb2798 2 года назад +1

    Can you tell it’s a new instrument when you play it ? Do you think that the sound might change over time as the wood seasons ?

    • @aTonalHits
      @aTonalHits  2 года назад +1

      What struck me about this instrument when I first played it is that it was already quite open, even though it's relatively new! So yes, it will definitely change over time, and when it finds an owner- and it will only change for the better, the more it's played!

    Great instrument with good balance but the higher register is the more responsive. (The speakers on my computer may not be doing the lower register justice.)

  • @НиколайГеоргиевич-ю3д

    Сегодня уже есть трансакустические гитары. Вот примерно что должна уметь скрипка. В нулевой акустике ,есть такие места ,можно найти, она должна делать объм.

  • @winstonoboogie2424
    @winstonoboogie2424 2 года назад

    From here, I heard nothing unusual. Sounds great. Some of these guitar companies have found a way to "age" the wood. Maybe this could be used for violin making.

    • @VicariousAdventurer
      @VicariousAdventurer 2 года назад +2

      This instrument has precisely the sweetness that most folks online have attributed to old wood in antique instruments. Whatever she is doing, she has more of a clue than other world-class luthiers.

    • @winstonoboogie2424
      @winstonoboogie2424 2 года назад

      How much "precision" is involved in "sweetness", I'm not sure. But I think it's safe to assume the old world violins sounded excellent when they were new. The trick to making a great instrument, be it guitar or violin, is balancing the EQ and output of each string so that the player need not compensate for strong or weak notes. Accomplish this and "sweetness" will follow.

    • @finemasterviolins
      @finemasterviolins 2 года назад

      @@VicariousAdventurer I agree 100%. I personally spent 30 years of experiments to work out how to get the resonance and sound quality of a master violin. Most great makers have their own ways to accomplish this and of course its normally a trade secret.
      La Porte Violin, 2020 sounds lovely 😍

    Modern is the way to go in terms of value if you ask me. But when you fall in love with an instrument, make sure you do your homework before you buy it. Should you decide you want to sell it later, you may have to go through serious heartache to get it sold. Make sure the maker you’re buying/commissioning from has a reputation. If an instrument is just sitting there in a maker’s shop and hasn’t been commissioned by a particular person, ask why. You think it would just fly off the shelf when you try to sell it because of how much you loved it-and how much you paid for it. Lots of shops are flooded with modern instruments on consignment which could take years to sell. Sometimes the makers who you bought it from will refuse to sell it for you. Not to rain on the parade, but it’s important not to be naive about these things in terms of the financial investment they are.
