This place is a different world -" Horton Plains is well recognized for its rich biodiversity, its flora given to a high level of endemism. 5% of species are found to be endemic to Sri Lanka. There are various species of harriers and buzzards
You brought me to my childhood coz I went there once. Too bad never had a chance afterwards as I got stuck with the city life (it's a different hectic lifestyle in Sri Lanka probably you've never exposed to). Be careful not to stumbling off from this precipitous cliff. This view is amazing and worth for couple of hours of hill climbing.
I have noticed that Sally adjusts her sunglasses far more often than a normal human should :) She looks spectacular in those glasses, so I can understand why she loves them, despite them being a size too big. Great vlog as usual guys. Hope you'll come back to Sri Lanka again.
Growing up in Colombo,we did not see much of Sri Lanka apart from when we went on vacation. Our trip to Horton plains blew my mind away. It definitely gives the impression that it has nothing in common with the rest of Sri Lanka. Horton plains used to have many leopards but were shot by British Hunter's in the 19th century. It's mentioned in the Indian epic story Ramyana. Sita's plane landed and the mountain is called Thotupola Kanda. Translated it means the mountain which has the airplane landing site. Also, the oldest evidence of human farming oats and Barley is found in Horton Plains. I was so fascinated by my trip as a 13 year old ,I brought back some of the "alien" looking soil from Horton plains to Colombo to grow a Rhododendron.
Can you imagine if everyone brought home a bag of soil, Horton Plains would be destroyed? In any case, it is a UNESCO site and should be left untouched. As a World Heritage Site it is of 'Oustanding Universal Value.'
@@SallyAndEd you can be forgiven for assuming the cold will put off snakes. I believed the same when I lived in Sri Lanka. When my family and I went on holiday to nuwara eliya there was a cobra sunbathing in the lovely lawns of the park.
If you ever make it to BC, Canada, we have cougars (& bears) that come into the towns and cities but generally stay in the wild. A cougar made my parents backyard (a forest) part of its territory. Then there was the cougar who went for high tea at the famous Victoria Empress Hotel in 1992.
Horton plains is the national park at highest altitude in Sri Lanka, It is the origin of main rivers of SL including the longest river ''Mahaweli'. Horton plains (also central highlands) is the heart of Sri Lanka as Sri Lanka gets rain and water thanks to these forests called cloud forests..If these cloud forests weren't there Sri Lanka could have been a dry desert!
@@SallyAndEd Yes, I have been there about 7 times. You can do camping too in the Horton plains (need to get permission from Wild life authority). I was so lucky to did camping there with my friends about 8 years back. It was so fun and unforgettable experience. Temperature was less than 5 celcius and no humans, only me and my friends 😀 .... also 2nd and 3rd highest mountains and highest waterfall are situated near Horton plains... i climbed highest mountain , 3rd highest mountain and went to see highest waterfall of 🇱🇰 Bambarakanda as well.... unforgettable memories ❤
Hi, at the same time. There are couple of camping sites in Horton Plains. Camp site 1 would be most of our choice. And there are couple of bungalows as well.. try camping, you'll love it more.. 👍👍
@@SallyAndEd if you guys are still in Sri Lanka, we can arrange a camping session, can try in Horton Plains but if not there are many more places where we can do camping.. and or ask someone whom would like if you guys are away.. 👍👍.. (I don't charge a cent. ✌️👍👍)
