The section where you move from showing us where the jet is to explaining that a carburetor works off a vacuum is spot on terrific. My snow blower's carburetor is the only one I've ever had to work on, and that explains a lot.
Good video! Thank you! My daddy taught me all this 50 years ago when I helped him with his small engine repair side business. Unfortunately, I haven’t used much of those teachings in the 50 years since. I’ve recently needed this refresher.
Obsolutly excellent tutorial my friend. Ive been involved in small engine repair for years now and this video is one of the the best I've ever seen. Their simple parts but o so crucial. Thanks for sharing and keep the videos coming.
Very good video, lots of information presented in a pleasant clear voice. He knows what he wants to say before he turns the camera on! No "UH, UH, UH, UH, UH, UMM, UMM, UMM" or the "GO AHEAD AND" catch phrase every six words. Just facts! We need more like this. Subscribed.
MY CARBURATOR WAS OVERFLOWING I MUST OF PUT THE PIN ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE JET NEEDLE AND I NOW KNOW I FORGOT TO CLEAN OUT THE BOTTOM SCREW THANK YOU VERY MUCH... I SHOULD HAVE MY GENERATOR BACK UP AND RUNNING THANKS TO YOUR VIDEO. WHAT WOULD WE DO WITH OUT YOU TUBE, I ALWAYS FIND THE RIGHT ANSWERS HERE. GOD BLESS AMERICA THE LAND OF THE SMART AND TO ALL OF US WHO ARE NOT AFRAID TO DO OUR ON WORK.
Excellent descriptive video, thanks ! I just used this to disassemble and clean a 5.5 Hp engine on an old pressure sprayer that I picked up in a junk sale and it is now running perfectly.
Ty for your indepth explanation of how each part works and the air and fuel flow. I have been searching and watched many videos but yours has been the best I've seen.
Just got into Coleman Mini Bikes, and this video answered every question I had. Newer Colemans come with an EPA Jet Screw that can't be removed (sloped so it can only be tightened). It is separate from the bowel screw.
Was given a tiny generator (600 watt and nearly useless). No fuel. HIt it with carb cleaner or similar? It'll run til the spray is gone. The needle valve seems to be the issue after watching this. Gonna get some berrymans and see if i cant clean it. Nearly new generator. More of a "lets see if i can fix this" than a useful tool lol. Thanks for this and you earned a sub!
Thank you, very good explanation about the theory of operation. I have a problem with an engine, not getting any fuel on a minibike so I will have to dismantle the carburetor. I’m sure. so this helped a lot
Nice job, clear video and explanation. One question: once the fuel enters the bowl, how does the fuel then defy gravity and travel upwards through the jet in the bowl screw to the body of the carb where it mixes with O2 and then drawn into the combustion chamber. If I had to guess, I'd say it's due to vacuum that was created when the piston retracted from top dead center. Just a wild guess.
Yes it works like a vacuum. As the engine is on its intake stroke and the valve opens to draw air/fuel in, it pulls a lift of fuel up through the orifice of the carburetor. If you remove the air cleaner to where you can see inside the throat of carburetor, look with a flashlight and you’ll see fuel coming up in quick spurts with the engine running. Them small pin holes you’ll see around the throat help in creating that vacuum affect to give it that lift.
@@MikesGarage96 A friend of mine gave me his old Briggs & Stratton POWER 3500 watt elite series portable generator. It wouldn't start so we replaced the spark plug and disassembled the carburetor. I'm not too knowledgeable about engines and carburetors and was sent a link to your video by a coworker. Thank you for the explanation. In my case, we cleaned the carburetor and there is fuel getting in the bowl. There is no fuel getting to the spark plug. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Its a nice tutorial! Am I right that such kind of engines don`t have neither fuel pump nor a membrane in their carby? Still not clear how fuel can get suction to the combustion chamber. Thank you
I have a Toro that starts and shuts off after a second. I took out that bowl theres no nut with tiny holes in it theres just an Allen key thing to drain the gas. Any suggestions?
Mike, i have this same carb on my power washer and as soon as i put gas in the tank the carberator starts leaking out of the intake. The engine did sit for a year with gas in it....possible varnishing occured? I have the bowl and float out now, but it looks pretty clean....suggestions?
I had this problem with a generator 10 HP briggs & stratton engine. In my case I just took off the carb bowl and sprayed some gumout up into the intake. put back together and found out the bowl seal was crimped and leaking so took apart again and repositioned the bowl seal. everything works again - knock on wood
sorry mike I had a bad day with a snow blower and I was taking it out on you, its not right and I'm sorry. any one that takes the time to do what you do is a good person, so once again I'm sorry.
Best video I have seen explaining how a carburetor works! Thank you. And maybe you can answer this question what is the best stuff to use to run through my gas tank to clean out the carburetor. Seafoam? For some reason my carburetor is not sucking gas and the hoses are fine and the fuel filter is fine. So I think the carburetor is dirty but I don’t want to take it apart I just want to run something through it. What’s the best on the market?
Seafoam is a good product, but if it’s severely dirty and clogged up inside, there’s really no way to get it clean without taking it apart. You can also take your air filter off, and pour seafoam into the intake of the carburetor a little at a time with the engine rev up a little. It’ll smoke while you’re doing it. It’ll clean out that intake, and help clean carbon out of the cylinder. A small funnel with a piece of fuel line on the end of it works great for pouring the seafoam in there.
I gave you a thumbs up but you missed describing the idle circuit that is often an issue with an engine that won’t idle because that circuit is plugged.
Any ideas as to why gas is slowly leaking from the carburetor (just like this one) into the air filter plate? My guess is that the float should close off the fuel from filling the bowl and perhaps it is not making a good seal? Thanks.
Could be either the float or needle and seat not sealing. I’ve even seen new needles and seat leak due to crappy parts being made these days. Check the float first and see if it’s full of gas. Then replace the needle and seat. If gas is leaking out into the air filter, there’s a chance it’s leaking into the crankcase oil too through the cylinder. Check and make sure your oil don’t smell on gas. For precautionary reasons I put a fuel shut off valve on mine and I cut it off when not in use. I have a video on that too.
@@MikesGarage96 Thanks I'll check it out! I definitely like the cut-off valve idea. The way my John Deer push mower is designed I didn't detect any leaking fuel running toward the cylinder or intake, but changing the oil just the same.

What a nice simple description of a carb, its parts, and how it works. I never knew, and now I feel like I understand how they work. Thank you.

Most concise yet thorough "how it works" vids on anything I've seen.
This was a great video. (I have watched a bunch of crappy ones) .. I now understand how a small carburetor works. Thanks very much.
Watched several of these today... your description was the clearest kudos

Very well done. Explained completely and concisely without non topic banter. Thanks
I understood this explanation the most out of all the ones I’ve seen
Excellent! A simple but thorough explanation of how a carburetor works!
Thank you! I was able to get my mower running again based on the info in this video!
Glad it helped!

Best description on the operation of the carburetor that I have found. Helped me solve my problem after days
I’m glad it helped. Thanks for watching!
How the carb jet worked was a blind spot for me. Thanks for clearing it up!
Thanks brother! Really helps me understand. I’m getting ready to take mine off my generator to clean it because it’s not starting.

Thank you for this great explanation. It helped me understand what I was doing when I cleaned my Honda 2HP outboard carburetor today.
Thank you for the video brother. Your time and effort is much appreciated.
Thank you. Well done. Excellent explanation of a small engine carb.
Thanks for the video. You're clear and thorough.
A very clear explanation, Mike! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Good explanation; animation is self explanatory.
A great explanation!
Best description i've seen so far on this... great job man!
Great video, Mike. Thanks for the lesson.
This was great! I really appreciate the detailed explanation! Thank a lot!
Great info man it answered a few of my questions
Excellent clear explanation! Many thanks👍
Concise and detailed explanation. For clarity, you called the throttle a choke near the end of the video. Can the throttle be called a choke?
That was just a fluke. The choke and throttle are two different things
Excellent explanation !!!!
Learned a lot,good video
Nice an simple. Thank you... !!!

AWESOME DISCRIPTION of how CARB works! very thorough And nice southern accent! it sounds like it might be from Alabama like my Momma
I’m from South Carolina
Well done! Thanks for doing this video
Good explanation
Do you have a video that explains the different ports (jets?) that allow the engine to idle or run full speed?
Very very solid video
You do a great job explaining this. Thank you for the upload!!!
Thanks for this video... I learned a lot
Good explanations.

What are those mini holes in the carburator for, extra gas?
How does it work with the flywheel? How does it read it?
Good job explaining it.
Best one I’ve seen
Awesome, thanks
Thanks from Mexicali Mexico
Thank you sir
I gave you a thumbs up but you missed describing the idle circuit that is often an issue with an engine that won’t idle because that circuit is plugged.
Nice video. How do you fix a Small Engine Carburetor with leaking gas going toward the air filter?
Same way as if it was leaking in the engine oil. There’s a problem with the needle and seat.
Nice Job!
Great job
thank you
Thanks, bud!
why would the fuel spray back around the primer ad filter housing? please get back to me
I’d start by pulling the carb off and rebuilding it. Replace the gaskets, especially where the air box mounts to the carburetor

You didn't cover the idle jet, so I didn't like the video. You also didn't unscrew or clean the main jet and talk about its function.
In this carburetor, the main jet is in the bowl nut
Who else gotta watch this bullshit because of a gay ass class
you skip how it idols come on man
The video is about the carburetor, not the governor
Idle
Soo good brather i also have this type plz show me the carburetor of suzuki se 1800 kl full video great you are
Very nice. Thank you Mike. 👍
Good explanation. Thanks.
