But their careers have taken very different paths over the past decade. Haspel, who was directly involved in torture at a secret CIA prison in Thailand, has been promoted to head the agency. Kiriakou, who blew the whistle on the torture program, ended up being jailed for 23 months. For more, we speak with John Kiriakou, who spent 14 years at the CIA as an analyst and case officer.

Haspel's defence has been that she was following orders, and knowing chain of command, I was willing to accept her position, until I realized that if any normal, non-psychopathic person who even witnessed, let alone ordered, inhumane treatment of another human being in the way that has become acceptable, would be suffering debilitating PTSD, unable to function, work, or manage life. Simply, if she's ok with what she saw, she's a monster.
We're so screwed that this is the new norm.
Torture is a crime condemned internationally by any civilised society. What amazes me is how these people go to church and talk about God while committing these despicable acts.
I've never liked the way the military says "good guys" and "bad guys". There's no good guys and bad guys in war and from a very large worldwide point of view the United States is far from being the "good guys"

@@byronleemarley9610 I think you misunderstood my post, I am the furthest thing from a fan of Bloody Gina as is humanly possible. My comment was just that the war hawks in the Senate would welcome one of their own. I doubt that she's been arrested, though I haven't been following the story that closely, and it would take overwhelming evidence to arrest a sitting CIA director, but if that's true, it's some of the best news I've heard all year.
As for war with Iran, Trump is still trying, if only at this point to make things difficult for Biden. Of course Israel and Saudi Arabia are fanning the flames.
I don't watch corporate news, only smaller independent outlets who lack corporate sponsors, and as for Operation Mockingbird, what would you like to know?
But ask yourself this, if Trump is so wise, why did he appoint someone who was going to stab him in the back? If he was really smart, he would have appointed someone like Medea Benjamin to run the agency, not a swamp creature like Haspel. Trump's instincts are actually not bad, the problem is he's let the deep state play him like a fiddle for three and a half years instead of listening to the non interventionist like Bannon (who is a reprehensible human being, but who actually gave him good advice.)

It would seem there's a lot of confusion around morality and ethics. People are distracted by this. Instead it would seem smarter to focus on what works and what doesn't work. What is prudent long term instead of the most expedient. It's a known fact that torture doesn't work. Sadism is rooted in unhealthy behavior. People and our planet need to return to good health. Behaving in such a sadistic manner is not the way to get there. There needs to be some legitimate mechanism for accountability of the CIA. How does the American people or the world know that the CIA is functioning in a healthy manner conducive to their ability to sustain? What if the powers that be have some sort of health issue that precludes them from being balanced in their view? Case in point - Vladimir Putin who appears to have Parkinsons. There are a lot of behavioral imbalances associated with Parkinsons, and they can only get worse.

The question is: What exactly are we going to do about it all? Let's not be do-nothing talking heads who repeat over and over again things we already know. Please present your plan of action. Spell it out. Be as specific as you can.
