I honestly appreciated that Atlanna showed love for both of her sons. She never had anything against Orm, it was just something between her and Orm's father that was the issue. Orm backing down knowing she's alive was a nice touch because the assumption of her death for having Arthur was also the crux of his resentment towards the surface world. Doesn’t excuse his actions but he has a bit of a realization there.
It sucks that Atlanna was forced to abandon the man she loved and their child for an unwanted marriage but if she ever took it on Orm (who didn’t ask to be born) would’ve made her despicable and in a way would’ve justified Orm’s rage. So yeah, it’s good she showed motherly love to Orm, otherwise it probably wouldn’t have mattered to him that she was still alive.
I think that moment Orm had a moment of self reflection when he saw his mother for the first time in 20 years from the day his father found out Arthur existed he filled ORM’s head with hatred and resentment about both Arthur and the surface world because he was angry with Atlanta
Orm is the atlantean equivalent of a super-soldier who found out he was conceived to fulfill a heavily narcissistic agenda and ends up developing an inferiority complex as a result.

The fights in this movie are so underrated, everything is choreographed so well. No flashy or unnecessary cuts, the camera angles are perfect and the takes are long and easy to follow.
Orm spent the whole movie dissing his mother. But the moment he sees her, he breaks down. Shows that he never could hate her or see her as flawed like his father did.
Yeah, you get hints that he genuinely loved his mother when he said that it's all Arthur's fault that she's dead. In some way, his hatred for the surface world is because of how his mother was killed for being with a surface dweller and thus killed in punishment for it.

We get "hints" of him not totally hating his mother but i feel like it's not enough to justify his complete total 180 reversal I'm how he feels. Overall movie was fantastic just wish they made his relationship with her more complex.

This fight choreography is actually pretty good. So many movies go for the dramatic sword fight. Having the final showdown happen with polearms is a pretty nice change of pace.
It was a really nice change of pace...and then they did that stupid CG twirling thing which kinda ruined it for me. Bear in mind though that this is coming from someone who trained as a drum major and was on flag team, so I'm probably a bit biased.
I just love the contrast between Orm smugly breaking Atlanna's trident and Arthur's absolute devastation that 1) he lost the fight but 2) he broke his mother's trident in doing so (possibly the only physical thing he had left of her) and then in this battle he absolutely shatters Orvax's trident wielded by Orm which in turn shows Orm how Arthur felt in that very same moment - also a nice metaphor for showing Orm that the way Orvax ruled Atlantis was not necessarily right and that his father (and therefore he himself) was/is not indestructible...idk I just love this movie
I always figured that it was representative of Atlanna and Orvax's different views on the surface world or something like that. Atlanna's trident was a clean break (even if it was weaker, it held together much better), whereas Orvax's trident was completely wrecked (while it was stronger, when it fell apart, it FELL APART). I dunno, I'm not well-versed in Aquaman lore.

Sure, it was a downside in some ways, but it gave him two weaker weapons rather than one stronger one for a bit. Conversely, there's no fighting with the bits left of Orm's weapon. He only got one fall, and fell hard in return, whereas Arthur takes a loss and keeps moving forward. A clean break can be repaired, even if the result may be somewhat weaker than what once was. But piecing together a shattered item is never going to give you back the whole - pieces will always be lost.

I honestly hope that this version of Aquaman and Ocean Master can somehow forge a lasting sibling bromance of sorts like the MCU's Thor and Loki. They definitely gave this iteration of Orm a conscience over many others that portray him as a darker figure who descends into a broken psychopath. The fact he chose to live and yield the throne over honoring his warrior spirit and dying for it as he truly desired simply because of his love for his mother speaks greatly for his character, and its potential in future works.
They already switched it up so Atlantis still tries to go to war with the surface, but not having Atlana die at Orm's hands beforehand. So it seems pretty likely.

Small detail but I like that when Orm broke Arthur’s trident it only split in two, but when the reverse happened, Orm had his trident shattered so much he barely had two pieces left to hold on to. I think it kind of symbolizes that while it’s true that their father did not seem to lose often as their mother, when she did lose she could still be remembered, or even reforged, while he could not. When he breaks, he breaks for good and can NEVER come back.
This is based off of new 52 comics. In the origional Orm is completely human although still Arthurs half brother but they have the sam father not moyher. Tomb maried some time after Atlana left and Orm was born. Learning about his brother's royal birtt Orm is jealous and seas himself as the rightfull king even thou he has no atlantian conection.

I’d say it was solid. Not bad by any stretch, but I wouldn’t say it was amazing. I definitely liked it though; it was above average for superhero movies and had some great aspects. “Solid” seems like the best word for it
Man, the fact they managed to make this scene feeling genuinely dramatic and full of pathos despite both characters being dressed up in their traditional super hero costumes really speaks to the story telling power of this film team.
Hfar I completely agree the only thing I don’t like about this scene is the clear blatant rip-off of Loki’s pole kick move at 1:33! That scene of Loki’s is one of the most iconic scenes in the Marvel movies universe and the fact DC copied the scene practically frame for frame really annoyed me and a few other people who was in the movie theatre when This cameout and we saw that pole kick spin. Other then that I actually enjoyed the movie and I liked it more then any of the new DCU movies, this has a lot of depth to it and like you said looks and feels genuinely dramatic.
Hfar I know but when you grew up on Marvel Comics more then DC Comics you become more invested in that world and the characters! Don’t get me wrong I did also read DCComics the only two characters that I loved from that world is Harley Quinn and The Joker 🃏 I’m not the only one there was quite a few people who said it in the theatre and it’s on a lot of posts on the reviews for this movie. I think because the way Marvel shot the scene with Loki and Thor and the fact that Ton who plays Loki actually managed to perform the stunt without any help or any wires he actually balances the staff on the floor and pushed and forced himself to spin around, kick then land perfectly the true fans who know that and even the ones who love the scene so much they’ve actually drawn pictures of Loki pole dancing! I think the fan art is weird but hilarious at the same time I just think “that’s what you imagine in another scenario?” It is one of the most iconic scenes in the Marvel movie universe so seeing it in the DCMU did piss a lot of people off because if you watch the scenes side by side they’re practically identical and there’s many different ways DC could have played that part of the scene out, and instead of coming up with a different way of doing it, they ripped it from a rival comic franchise. If it wasn’t such an iconic movie scene I don’t think I or loads of others would be bothered about it, because it’s beloved by everyone that’s why people took issue with the pole spin kick in this movie. Other then that oh and the massive bulges on their costumes (if you say you didn’t notice them straight away I know your lying!) seeing that on the big screen they are that big it’s like the movie turns 3D when there’s a close up of their crotch area, and the costume design people had to make that bit slightly different from the rest of their costumes was a bit distracting. I actually enjoyed this movie and watching the Aquaman cartoons and seeing his costumes in the comic I was praying they didn’t put them in cheesy costumes and was really impressed when you saw Jason’s king costume for the first time, I’m glad they went a completely different route with them. (Apart from the massive eye popping bulges!) I loved the gold and green contrast between his costume! One thing I’m really hoping for now the truth has finally come up (and a second recording was leaked in the early hours!) is the man/Husband beater and abuser is removed from the rest of these movies and is recast now it’s come out she was the one who was beating and abusing Johnny, not the other way around! She destroyed his life and career with all her lies, and I knew she was lying from when she released them photos! As a victim of domestic violence, abuse and rape at the hands of my husband for over 24 years she’s given real victims a bad name and a lot of us, men and women spoke about her photos compared to the photos of Johnny’s face that was covered in bruises and cuts that the press took and posted and one thing we noticed and having gone through our own abuse at the hands of the people we loved and claimed to love us. All of us said “where’s the swelling on Amber’s photos?” Anyone knows if you get a bruise because their caused by broken or damaged blood vessels, you always have some sort of swelling as they try to repair themselves! She didn’t have any and if you actually look closely at the photos you can clearly see it’s makeup, Johnny’s on the other hand his face in the photos is swollen where the cuts and bruises are so none of us believed her and she was being called out by people who aren’t victims that was saying the same things “how can bruises have glitter and shimmer tints to them? And where’s the swelling?” You get the swelling before the bruisers actually show up because the broken or damaged blood vessels force the skin upwards because they swell up also. XoX

This fight choreography is actually pretty good. So many movies go for the dramatic sword fight. Having the final showdown happen with polearms is a pretty nice change of pace.
It was a really nice change of pace...and then they did that stupid CG twirling thing which kinda ruined it for me. Bear in mind though that this is coming from someone who trained as a drum major and was on flag team, so I'm probably a bit biased.

I just love the contrast between Orm smugly breaking Atlanna's trident and Arthur's absolute devastation that 1) he lost the fight but 2) he broke his mother's trident in doing so (possibly the only physical thing he had left of her) and then in this battle he absolutely shatters Orvax's trident wielded by Orm which in turn shows Orm how Arthur felt in that very same moment - also a nice metaphor for showing Orm that the way Orvax ruled Atlantis was not necessarily right and that his father (and therefore he himself) was/is not indestructible...idk I just love this movie
I always figured that it was representative of Atlanna and Orvax's different views on the surface world or something like that. Atlanna's trident was a clean break (even if it was weaker, it held together much better), whereas Orvax's trident was completely wrecked (while it was stronger, when it fell apart, it FELL APART).
I dunno, I'm not well-versed in Aquaman lore.

Sure, it was a downside in some ways, but it gave him two weaker weapons rather than one stronger one for a bit. Conversely, there's no fighting with the bits left of Orm's weapon. He only got one fall, and fell hard in return, whereas Arthur takes a loss and keeps moving forward. A clean break can be repaired, even if the result may be somewhat weaker than what once was. But piecing together a shattered item is never going to give you back the whole - pieces will always be lost.
The Tridents can be reforged so it's fine. I just hate how they made them break light lightbulbs

I honestly hope that this version of Aquaman and Ocean Master can somehow forge a lasting sibling bromance of sorts like the MCU's Thor and Loki. They definitely gave this iteration of Orm a conscience over many others that portray him as a darker figure who descends into a broken psychopath. The fact he chose to live and yield the throne over honoring his warrior spirit and dying for it as he truly desired simply because of his love for his mother speaks greatly for his character, and its potential in future works.
They already switched it up so Atlantis still tries to go to war with the surface, but not having Atlana die at Orm's hands beforehand. So it seems pretty likely.
That's all I want to see in the sequel. Orm Learnign the joys of sibling hood

Small detail but I like that when Orm broke Arthur’s trident it only split in two, but when the reverse happened, Orm had his trident shattered so much he barely had two pieces left to hold on to. I think it kind of symbolizes that while it’s true that their father did not seem to lose often as their mother, when she did lose she could still be remembered, or even reforged, while he could not. When he breaks, he breaks for good and can NEVER come back.

I’d say it was solid. Not bad by any stretch, but I wouldn’t say it was amazing. I definitely liked it though; it was above average for superhero movies and had some great aspects. “Solid” seems like the best word for it

Man, the fact they managed to make this scene feeling genuinely dramatic and full of pathos despite both characters being dressed up in their traditional super hero costumes really speaks to the story telling power of this film team.
Hfar I completely agree the only thing I don’t like about this scene is the clear blatant rip-off of Loki’s pole kick move at 1:33! That scene of Loki’s is one of the most iconic scenes in the Marvel movies universe and the fact DC copied the scene practically frame for frame really annoyed me and a few other people who was in the movie theatre when This cameout and we saw that pole kick spin. Other then that I actually enjoyed the movie and I liked it more then any of the new DCU movies, this has a lot of depth to it and like you said looks and feels genuinely dramatic.

Hfar I know but when you grew up on Marvel Comics more then DC Comics you become more invested in that world and the characters! Don’t get me wrong I did also read DCComics the only two characters that I loved from that world is Harley Quinn and The Joker 🃏 I’m not the only one there was quite a few people who said it in the theatre and it’s on a lot of posts on the reviews for this movie. I think because the way Marvel shot the scene with Loki and Thor and the fact that Ton who plays Loki actually managed to perform the stunt without any help or any wires he actually balances the staff on the floor and pushed and forced himself to spin around, kick then land perfectly the true fans who know that and even the ones who love the scene so much they’ve actually drawn pictures of Loki pole dancing! I think the fan art is weird but hilarious at the same time I just think “that’s what you imagine in another scenario?” It is one of the most iconic scenes in the Marvel movie universe so seeing it in the DCMU did piss a lot of people off because if you watch the scenes side by side they’re practically identical and there’s many different ways DC could have played that part of the scene out, and instead of coming up with a different way of doing it, they ripped it from a rival comic franchise. If it wasn’t such an iconic movie scene I don’t think I or loads of others would be bothered about it, because it’s beloved by everyone that’s why people took issue with the pole spin kick in this movie. Other then that oh and the massive bulges on their costumes (if you say you didn’t notice them straight away I know your lying!) seeing that on the big screen they are that big it’s like the movie turns 3D when there’s a close up of their crotch area, and the costume design people had to make that bit slightly different from the rest of their costumes was a bit distracting. I actually enjoyed this movie and watching the Aquaman cartoons and seeing his costumes in the comic I was praying they didn’t put them in cheesy costumes and was really impressed when you saw Jason’s king costume for the first time, I’m glad they went a completely different route with them. (Apart from the massive eye popping bulges!) I loved the gold and green contrast between his costume! One thing I’m really hoping for now the truth has finally come up (and a second recording was leaked in the early hours!) is the man/Husband beater and abuser is removed from the rest of these movies and is recast now it’s come out she was the one who was beating and abusing Johnny, not the other way around! She destroyed his life and career with all her lies, and I knew she was lying from when she released them photos! As a victim of domestic violence, abuse and rape at the hands of my husband for over 24 years she’s given real victims a bad name and a lot of us, men and women spoke about her photos compared to the photos of Johnny’s face that was covered in bruises and cuts that the press took and posted and one thing we noticed and having gone through our own abuse at the hands of the people we loved and claimed to love us. All of us said “where’s the swelling on Amber’s photos?” Anyone knows if you get a bruise because their caused by broken or damaged blood vessels, you always have some sort of swelling as they try to repair themselves! She didn’t have any and if you actually look closely at the photos you can clearly see it’s makeup, Johnny’s on the other hand his face in the photos is swollen where the cuts and bruises are so none of us believed her and she was being called out by people who aren’t victims that was saying the same things “how can bruises have glitter and shimmer tints to them? And where’s the swelling?” You get the swelling before the bruisers actually show up because the broken or damaged blood vessels force the skin upwards because they swell up also. XoX
