Roland was a teacher before making the change to Pro. Bass fishing. So he is a great great teacher. I never noticed that huge diamond ring as a kid watching him. Damn!!! I ALWAYS have a spinnerbait tied on. Love to throw 1. I make my own with a lead mold and my choice of hooks and wire. The swivel is very important part of your spinnerbait. Fallowed by the hook.
I started watching Roland's show in the early 1980's, ..also started watching Bassmasters. Then I got the BASS subscription along with my sample pack of Brut Tru-Turn hooks, Mann's worms (blue) with FS-454 attractant.. which I used to catch an 8 1/2 lb bass using a friends rod at Lake Chabot in Castro Valley, Ca. Thanks Roland and Ray Scott
Spinnerbaits are one my favorite lures out there. versatile and they catch more than just bass. there is a reason they have been around for so long, they work!
He said it's made by Shimano but I dont think they make them anymore lol they must've realized they were losing money on people needing multiple reels for different ratios instead lol
There where 2 shimano reels that where made in 1989 one was the “shimano bantam black magnum” which turned from a 5:2:1 to a 3:8:1 gear ratio. And the one that Roland martin has in this video was a “shimano bantam beastmaster” which turned from a 6:1:1 to a 4:1:1 gear ratio hope this helped😊
@@MrCoffeekelly they are much better than penn, okuma, andall the rest.ive used shimano reels 30 or so yrs and they are just better reels.and they all coulnt wait to copy the baitrunner like penn did,and they still havent got a decent copy yet. @@edwardbtown2766 you're the one who disagrees. No company makes the best reels. They all made a few good reels now and then, but also a lot of junk. Some of the worst reels I've owned were shimano and daiwa. But some of the best reels I've owned were also daiwa and shimano.
@@MrCoffeekelly i guess ive been lucky but when you get into bigger reels ive found them to work for me in alot of freezing weather my sister in law smashed my 6500b baitrunner on concrete and it still worked.i used the fx series reels with quick fire bails super stopper2 and dyna balace were great spinning reels.just what worked for me.
I have to disagree with the spinnerbait being one of the most versatile lures in my tackle box. There are plenty of times you aren’t going to be throwing a spinnerbait. A jig, a worm. Those are versatile baits that can be thrown any time of the year, any conditions your given.
I disagree. Spinner bait comes in more weight sizes than any bait. So you can fish at ANY depth. You can use what ever color you want. Make your own skirts. Put small, medium or large blades. Put willow leaf blades, Colorado blades, or the oblong blades. I don’t even want to mention all the sizes all 3 blades come in. If it is dirty water big blades, clear water small blades. Nickel, brass or any color you can think of. I don’t know any lure a person can customize or make it fish in any condition other than the spinner bait. Get a lure making catalog and you can see just what you can do with a spinner bait. At the store all you see is 1/2 oz big willow leaf spinner baits. But a man can make his own or change the blades on that bait. Change the skirts. There is no more versatile lure on planet earth. The next I would say is a jig, after all a spinner bait is a jig with blades. So think about that. There is always a spinner bait of some variation on my deck. Maybe I have 2 or 3 different variations on my deck trying to find the one they want. But there is ALWAYS a spinner bait tied on and on my deck. Maybe your creativity is blocked by THC.
@@skinnyslims5327 THC!! absolutely. If conditions call for it. You throw what the fish want and the conditions call for. Sorry I did not know you replied. Roland still active on RUclips and regularly uploading content.
I love watching these old videos. Tips from a true legend.
Bought a bunch of antique fishing lures and one was a Al Foss No. 3 spinning bait? Made in 1920's. Martin Roland is kicking it on RUclips!
This dude been giving away all the secrets for years lol
I promise he's got a few he hasn't let out. Lol
He’d definitely be a solid boat buddy
Thanks for all the information you provide Roland martin

Tru turn hooks are great hooks.
Hands down best video I've seen, common sense, straightforward!
Roland Martin is the best
Good instruction on spinnerbaits that can be found!!!
The 3 ppl who left dislikes just missed the like button by accident

Thanks for this channel! It’s great 👍
From Connecticut to California! Roland is the best.
Talk about slow rolling with a 4:1 ratio. And this was high tech in the 90s.
And he said dual ratio reel 4-1 and 6-1 on a 5 and 1/2 foot rod. That's like a kids rod today!
@@johnhipp7817 Yeah a rod you learn on lol. He won 92k on that lol crazy!

Pump it and move it pump it and move it. I'll never forget how to work that spinner bait now.
Ugh SON is my new THERE SHE IS
Dang change gear ratios with a switch?? Shimano needs to bring that back!! 😂
right? thats bad ass, must have been faulty
Anyone else binge watching these videos? lmao
I watch them on Sunday morning like I used to watch fishing shoes back in the day. I didn’t watch cartoons if there was a fishing show on.

Can someone expand on the dual ratio reel he has. Brand? Never seen one of these before.

I had one of those rods.
What was it exactly? I wanted one soooo bad. I remember Jimmy H used to use them too in the early 90s. Shimano right?
"polaroid glasses"
lmfao hahaha
That was awesome. Luckily you had prepared me as I read the comments 😂
Dang Roland, I didn't realize sears had a catalog in 1898... 🤣
They started the catalog in 1888 but it only had jewelry
He's marketing spinnerbaits and making money. That's what pros do. Of course he's gonna say its versatile. But I agree with him.
This seems way older than 1990
