This is one of the few tuba concertos that I would listen to or play repeatedly because of its lyricism and its lack of dependence upon "tuba special effects." I do prefer the original brass band instrumentation, but concert band is fine. Well performed, Derek. Thanks for posting.
My name is george luft, im a senior in the grissom high school symphonic band 1. mr vernon has asked that i perform the 2nd half of this piece (letter m through the end) in front of the band at the 2022 utc honor band festival as well as the Christmas concert before the festival. Could i get a lesson with you sometime so you can give of some pointers?
I played Tuba from 6th grade to 12th. It was my favorite thing to do. I wish I had continued with music. You make me want to try and go for it again
It's a rewarding struggle, so yeah, I'd encourage you started again. Unfortunately tubas are flippin expensive

It's strange, how many professional tuba players started out on a different instrument, then switched to the tuba.
uncanny how that background at the beginning reflects how I came to play tuba exactly. I dont like that
