Thank you so much for your expertise and thorough explanations. I wanted to be able to use my woven block to get a knit dress block and this worked great.
Hello Julia, The négative ease is that you remove twice the ease that was added to you woven pattern. so at the bust (usually its 4 cm all around) you remove not 1 but 2 cm to each 1/4 pattern. at the waist (usually its 2 cm all around) you remove not .5 but 1 cm to each 1/4 pattern. at the hip (usually its 4 cm all around) you remove not 1 but 2 cm to each 1/4 pattern. It is possible that you could or have to remove even a little more at the bust & hip, so your side seam is not too pointy, since there is no waist darts. Diane
Hello! Diane, Today I purchase a stretch fabric so I will definitely try this pattern soon, but Diane, I have this question in my mind all the time that if we make patterns for every project then there are piles of patterns stored in wardrobes. Isn't there a way to directly cut the fabrics and although, for perfection in dressmaking, pattern making is good but also pattern making is time consuming if we want to make so many dresses for us and for others. So, please show us some videos for direct fabric cutting. Thank you and your work is always amazing.
Hello Pooja, This is a good point, I personally do most of my style directly on the fabric, BUT I do have blocks for all different garment component such as My basic bodice, pants, skirt, and coat, tailor jacket, shirt block, t-shirt, legging, body suit long & short, mens and kids. My block have the seam allowances includes and to do style right on the fabric, I trace the style lines directly on the block and do the development directly on the fabric. For more complicate details like tailor collar, I only do the pattern of this part and attach it to my block. I will try to make a video of that with an easy style modification, it a good idea. Diane
Hi Diane, Does T-Shirt is always cut on stretchy or knit fabrics. Don't we make it by using woven fabric. Here, I don't find much types of fabric and that's why I haven't try this block yet. If you clear my doubt then I can start.
there's something strange.my bust circumf. is 82 cm and my hip circumf. is 92 cm. when following your instructions:sliding the basic bodice block parallel , and i then measure the t shirt block,i end up whith 72 cm at the bust and 70 cm at the hips!!even though this is for a knit garment,i don't see how i'm going to fit into that even if it's a stretchy fabric.my basic bodice block has a 3 cm waist dart.could this be the origin of the problem?i followed your tutorial for the basic bodice block pattern and you said add 3 cm so i don't know.is it normal for my t shirt block to end up this tiny?thanx diane!
Hello Flora, For fitted knit block, we usually remove the value of the ease instead of adding it (at the bust), so if your body bust measurement is 82 cm, your basic block must be about 86 cm. -Now to do the knit, officially you would have to go in 2 cm, because we add 1 cm ease to each 1/4 of bodice, but I know with the recipe, we get a little more, that's why I usually go in 3cm. (you should end up with a bust of about 78 cm) so with my calculation, go in only half the dart (same thing back and front). -Now for the hip, add 2.5 cm parallel the the bottom part (the square part), and softly connect to the waist. All these modifications are normal, to have a good t-shirt block. than I would try this bodice in knit before doing the sleeve, just in case. Diane
I noticed when i closed the waist dart it's affect on the bust made it less about 3.5 cm than the basic plock pattern and this new size 'll be less compared my bust size (all around 90cm) . and i want to aske. is the T-shirt block pattern 'll be suitable to make a thing wearing under a tull dress or i should to use other pattern , note that i want some thing not tight and not Wide . Really i love you
Hi Alaa Al Ashkar,This video is to make a knit block pattern, and for knit, to eliminate all darts, and have a side seam that does not have too deep curve to fit the waist, we have to make the bust measurement minus the ease instead of plus the ease for woven. Now what you might need is the dart less blockruclips.net/video/LK6BkBRWOfoD/видео.htmliane

Hi Diane When you extend the front underarm you say extend by 3cm but measure 1.5cm. Can you explain please?
When using knit block to make a fitted pattern, Please can you explain how to calculate negative ease when using lycra with 100% stretch.
Hello Julia,
The négative ease is that you remove twice the ease that was added to you woven pattern.

Hello again,
I know you want to make them all, and this is GOOD, but if you can't get stretch (knit) fabric, you do not need this block.
