How to Install ReShade + HD Project for Resident Evil 4

PLEASE READ: I forgot to mention this in the video but make sure you have ANTI-ALIASING OFF and COLOR FILTER OFF. It messes with ReShade. If anyone needs further help, I am more than welcome to help out! DM me on twitter @DatFunkyOlive

i have a problem with vulkan rendering i turn it off save and when enter game they are on again and i don't even know can i play with shaders i can play normaly with hd project i have 1060 6gb 16gb ram and i5 6400 what do you think if i make it all work to work will i have stable fps ?

Too bad I can only get 30fps with RT on. But even without it, it looks good.
The reason is, when you select "Directx 9" it runs reshade for a DX9 title, but Project HD changes the API from DX9 to Vulkan to improve FPS on modern systems, for stability, I'd recommend installing Project HD first, then reshade and select Vulkan instead of DirectX9, especially if you are CPU bottlenecked

@@joel3683 I got you, ran into the same problem too. You just need to find the folder where you downloaded all the RE4 HD project files. It should work just fine that way.

yes you can as they are the same, one is just in a zip file. I would just download bin 17 personally

Is it absolutely necessary to install ReShade BEFORE HD Project?
I installed HD Project first, and now it seems no version of ReShade will show up; everything installs correctly, but it never initializes and the menu can't be pulled up with the Home key.
Yeah unfortunately you have to install ReShade before HD project. I had to uninstall HD project and start from scratch.
@@DatFunkyOlive Apparently I had RE4's renderer set to Vulkan in game settings. I swapped to DX9 and now everything is functional!

The RTGI is gone and without it my game is now broken and wont even start up, it started once and i seen the reShade screen and then it crashed and wont even open now😅
UPDATE: Deleted reshade and its fine now, but RE4 without mods kinda defeats the purpose😆
Hello can u help me? The resident evil HD download takes for AGES !! I mean like 3% in 5 hours. Its painfully slow.
Downloading the entire game on steam takes me 30 minutes. The hd project would take a couple days...
How can i fix this? Im currently unable to download it. Can anyone help me? Or can anyone upload the files and send me the link?
The only thing I can think of is resetting your modem and your router. I did this and my speeds went up.

It will since it’s using ray tracing but you can adjust the settings to run smoothly

for anyone who opens the wizard, it needs to be extracted and moved into your downloads folder

Also, with these mods in the video, are they compatible with the other resident evil 4 mods from the community? Anime Waifu girl costume, nemesis replacing ashley, and turning the first aid sprays into hershey bars are the first few that come to my mind.
It should all work. The only thing is that if the custom models you use aren't HD they will not be converted to HD. It's mainly just for the game itself. ReShade should also work just fine.

Yeah I know it’s annoying af. It’s the only way the mod creators could upload it unfortunately. The way I did it was using media fire. I had to download each file one by one and it worked for me.

whenever i open the game to make sure the reshade 5.6.0 is working is says "compiling 47 effects application may be unresponsive for some time". idk if it'll work or not but im just waiting to see, and it just freezes, the bar is not going anywhere.

@@TrainerRad164 you both probably need REFramework. look up "re4 remake crashes in loading screen" and a ReShade website should be in the results. it works for the original 2005 game, not just the remake. follow the instructions and you should be good, it worked for me.

yo bro, thanks for the video but not working for me, I installed the HD project before the reshade, when I launch the game there is not the small gray menu at the top of the screen like you, it is necessary first the reshade then the HD project? The F1 menu works though
Yes you do need to have ReShade installed before HD Project. Watch the beginning of the video to see how to properly uninstall the game and start fresh.
@@DatFunkyOlive I did exactly as you did, step by step, but at 20:04 of the video, at home it's not so nice, there is a lot of syntilisation and the colors are less pretty...
I don't know why because I have a FULL HD Asus screen and an RTX 3060, I don't know why it's not pretty like yours.

@@DatFunkyOlive oh I found it in the game options, anti-aliasing X8 you have to put deactivate, and it works.
On the other hand, with the reshade color, the first one, my game runs in slow motion, Leon and the enemies are really too slow, is there a solution bro?
Yeah, I forgot to mention that in the video. Glad you fixed it! As for the slow motion, I do experience it a bit myself but what fixed it for me is that in the ReShade menu, some fx are duplicated. Turn off the duplicates and slightly mess with the rtgi.fx setting. That one fx only is what causes the lag.

So I'm having a problem with the Installer for 1.10 and it's asking for a path on disk 14 and I'm not sure where to apply it
I keep getting a "runtime error" and can't start RE4 after adding the HD mod.

I'm not aware of this issue but I did search it up. It says to "just install the steamworks redistributables from steam and the problem will be solved. This will install the c++ libraries necessary for the game to work."
Just so you know your RTGI link is no longer on internet archive. Apparently you have to pay for it now. Make a updated tutorial plz.

after installing reshaders correctly i get the text on top but game instantly crashes
Is it happening every time you launch the game? Because I get this but only when I tab out when I’m in the menu
i experienced the same issue, i'm certain you need REFramework. give "re4 remake crashes in loading screen" a search, and a website by "ReShade" should pop up, then you can follow the instructions there. I know it has remake in the title, but my problem was solved when i started up the 2005 game. good luck!

Hey I was able to delete the extra files with no problem. You should be able to as well. The files you put into the game should be in the game files👍

wtf?! why do tutorials never work for me:( I don't understand where I went wrong, I just used 7zip to extract the HD Project installer and I just put the password as normal. This It didn't bring me to the installer with the picture of Leon, it just brought me to that and idk what to do, I'm so beyond lost wtf. It's literally the last thing I need to do before I can use this and it makes no sense why I can't just go on with my life like how you did in the video. Please help:( I can't do this with out help.
I ran into the same problem as well. You just need to locate the Folder where you put all the RE4 HD project files and it should work just fine.

Major Audio Desync issue across the board on opening cutscenes and radio transmission any fix for this ???
I do experience it a bit myself but what fixed it for me is that in the ReShade menu, some fx are duplicated. Turn off the duplicates and slightly mess with the RTGlobalIllumination.fx setting. That one fx only is what causes the lag.
My pc is not high end so can u make a tutorial how to configure for low end 60 fps
If you don’t have a pc that supports ray traycing ReShade will not work unfortunately
@@DatFunkyOlive What? That's the weirdest shit I've heard. ReShade does work with normal GPUs.
Mine keeps crasing when the game boots up? Did anyone run into this too? I've tried this 3 times doing everything in the video as well as using a different reshade version. If i change the api to dx11, then it works fine as the regular game would with no reshade
It all depends if you have a graphics card that can handle ray traycing

@@JesusF7 don't give up! i believe you encountered the same issue when it came to reshade. you may need REFramework as well. search up "re4 remake crashes in loading screen", bear with me as it does say remake, but there should be a website in "ReShade" detailing the problem as well as a solution. it still worked all the same when i booted up the 2005 game. good luck!

Hey man, it's been 1 year. I cannot for the life of me make Reshade work with HD project. Installing Reshade completely corrupted the game files and it stopped opening.
I first installed HD project, configured it, set the Vulkan API and then installed Reshade 5.6.0 (Vulkan too). After doing that the game was broken. Also I want to use Vulkan instead of DX9 because it performs better on newer hardware, my laptop is from 2023.
I'm doing a clean reinstall of everything right now. This is VERY frustrating. Please help. Can you make an updated version using Reshade 6.0+ and the HD project current version? Thanks.

I couldn't access the home key after I installed hd project, but before I could do it?
Don’t panic and uninstall anything. Open the re_tweaks menu in game by pressing F1. Then there should be a box that says Vulken Render. Uncheck that box. Also in the video settings of re4 turn off anti-aliasing and color filter. After you did that restart your game and the ReShade menu should work again in game
@@DatFunkyOlive Hi! I have this same issue and for some reason I'm not able to save the changes I'm doing in the hd project menu (F1). The vulkan render box will always be checked when rebooting the game even if I make sure to save all the changes before rebooting.

Damn... I was told I had to get the HD project cuz I bought RE4 on steam last night and the damn thing won't even launch on my laptop. I'm on the 1st .bin file right now and it's estimating 23 mins to download the file. Ouch. A whole day of screwing with mods just to play the game I purchased and it's not even functional. Is there any other way to do this?
So you can’t play the base version of resident evil 4 correct? As for the HD Project download, yeah it sucks downloading it. Try restarting your modem to see if the speeds change. Mine at first was 2+ hours then after I reset my modem it went down to 1 minute and 30 seconds.
@DatFunkyOlive Nope, base version won't even launch. Just changes the resolution of my screen several times before closing. I was told it's an issue with porting and the refresh rate having to be 60 hertz, but my laptop already runs at 60 so I guess I'm SOL until the downloads finish. Thanks for the video though, very helpful!

@@becketteryan is your laptop meant for gaming and/or have you recently bought the laptop, or is it an older model? If it keeps crashing, it could be that you don't have enough vram, but idk tbh, might just be because your laptop isn't optimized for gaming
everything works fine for me BUT game runs in like slow motion. disabling some re shade settings makes it run normal but takes all the good visuals away :/

@@DatFunkyOlive so disabling the Cache works for me, I played around with Reshaders and it looks pretty good, That hd mod really makes it look so crisp. I can't wait to see the full remake

I get this issue as well. In the ReShade menu, there will be some fx that are duplicated. Turn those off as it will greatly improve the games fps. For me they are MXAO, DELC_Sharpen and ADOF.
I followed this step by step and when I got to turning the reshader on in game it does NOT look the same for me

Are you trying to launch the HD Project in the same download folder or did you move all files into one new folder?

You'll have to manually browse and look for the game folder on your PC. If you know where your steam games are saved, then it should be an easy find.

Try to verify the integrity of the game on steam and see if it'll fix that issue

On steam, go to your library and find your resident evil 4 game. Right click it, then click properties. A window should pop up, on it click, "Local Files" after that click "Verify integrity of game files" that's going to essentially fix your game folder.

You need to extract the file called HDProject1.1-Installer with a zip extractor such as Winrar or 7zip to where you have the other files downloaded. I recommend creating a folder and moving everything you downloaded into it furst though.

Man, I'm really confused here. So am I downloading 34 GB worth of files from Mediafire and then downloading another 34 GB worth of files with the RE4 Setup? Do you really need to have like 70 GB worth of free space just to install this mod?
I don't know how it works but my RE4 game file size is 37gb not 70gb
@@DatFunkyOlive I only ask cause I downloaded the Mediafire files with not a lot of disk space and then when I went to use the RE4 HD setup file, I couldn't download it cause I needed 34 GB more of free space even though I already downloaded all those BIN filed. It's just really confusing when I've already downloaded all those files off Mediafire and then I'm being told I need another 34 GB free to setup the mod...

@@DatFunkyOlive it was vulkan renderer. This time I installed the project first, disabled vulkan through the renderer then installed reshade.
Just to find out I like the look of the game without the reshade better lol just looks more natural for me but it was fun to mess with reshade for a while
