Hey Pack Hacker Community! Tom - the founder here. Do you travel with Merino Wool? I personally can't live without it. It's basically all I wear now :)
When we became parents, we stayed at the hospital for a week, with me wearing the same pair of merino socks every day. After a week, there was not even the slightest hint of bad oder. Amazing.
Hi, thanks for this video. I've gotten more into hiking recently, because i stared doing a lot of landscape and astro photography, and then i started building my cold weather clothing system. What confused me the most, as i was new to all this, is that most online retailers list all kinds of garments under Merino Wool, where it could be anything from the actual 100% Merino wool, to all kinds of Polyamids, Polyesters, Lycras in different ratios, mixed with the Merino wool. Could you possibly do a video on that, and talk about some pros and cons maybe, or just point me in the right direction? Great channel, subscribed and following!

I wear a lot of wool both sheep and alpaca, year around. No sheep wool from any breeds needs to feel itchy. I have wool shirts that are 50 years old and going strong with no special care. Moreno is a little more problematic, Moths larva love the soft Moreno fibers. A minor problem with Moreno is layering. when you wear a mid-weight Moreno sweater over a base layer Moreno they cling together. The Moreno fibers have scales which cling to each other. The scales are why wool can be felted. Alpaca fibers have much smaller scales so an alpaca sweater glides over the base layer Moreno. The courser wool from other breads of sheep also glides over the base layer Moreno because they have larger scales on the fibers. No matter what type of sheep wool you are wearing there is a way to make it itchless and softer by adding lanolin to the garment. which was taken out during the making of the yarn. Check out how to add lanolin to wool garments on the Web. They will also stay cleaner longer and will expel water and sweat much better. After washing your Moreno in the hotel sink. Squeeze it dry. lay on a dry towel, roll up the towel tight and squeeze. the garment will feel slightly damp, Put the garment on and your body heat will dry it in minutes.
Depends. Beach, surf or hot vaca I prefer cotton or tencel blends as they wear and feel nicer. For example I'd much rather wear a Patagonia Pataloha or AC Steersman shirt than a Merino wool tshirt - much more versatile. I tried the hype, but came to the conclusion Merino is best for baselayers and zipups like a hoody. Just wearing a Merino tshirt to me is a bit sloppy, and polo versions are always a bit droopy as well. It's really nice as a blend though, which I hope to see more of in polos and short sleeve collar shirts. Still not many cost effective choices though.
Hey MrBojangles- thanks for the detailed opinion! We agree Merino can get a bit costly but in exchange for cost, it definitely has shown us some great durability.
There are some very comfortable summers weight loose weave wool slacks and button shirts. I wear Moreno T Necks, V necks and polo shirts all the time. No problem with them drooping. Moreno has a temperature range of about 15 F degrees to keep the sheep cool in summer and warm in winter.

If you can get a good deal. Kind of expensive. Look for end of season sales. I like a cashmere/silk blend. Feather light, naked comfort, and moths larva love them.,
@@tomsitzman3952 I bought a few cashmere clothes, including some pants from Davida Cashmere. All are ok, apart from the pants that broke after 100 wearings. The pants are not good for daily use, when you sit on a chair, they are good for outdoors use. But the pants as inside use are incredible confortable.
Unfortunately, i just found out that I cant wear wool.. 😔 my skin got red and itchy.. i wish you can find other fast-dry-fabric other than merino wool for travel.. Thank you..

What is the blend you are thinking of? Linen is a good blend, it is called linzy woolzy, cotton/wool blend, are good. Poly works well but long after the wool has decomposed the poly will remain forever. Poly/wool blends range from 90% wool to 10% wool.
@@tomsitzman3952 That was my question a year ago.. Since then, i bought and fell in love with 100% Merino Wool clothing.. Merino wool has anti-bacterial properties.. I can wear this for days, sweating while bike touring.. And is never smell odd. I am a fan of the brand Minus33, shirts, underwear, socks and gym shorts.. They wear well and stay fresh even under the worst conditions.. Wash cold and hang dry only.

Synthetic clothes will shed microplastic when washed. I avoid synthetic clothes for this reason.

Merino wool seems to allow you to layer which is way more fashionable and practical that a bulky sweater that will overheat.
I have recently purchased the Women's Merino Wool Capsile Wardrobe from the company Unbound Merino. So far I very happy with their clothes

What sweater are you wearing in the thumbnail? I'm looking for a good one to travel with, but all I keep seeing are T-shirts.

I make everything stink
Is it significant the dry time from polyester vs Merino wool ?
What about Merino wool pants or other accessories ?
