Then we are joined by Takumi himself with a first hand look at his many Japanese secrets. As if that’s not enough, finally we have an exclusive one-on-one sit down conversation with 19 year old fishing phenom Trey McKinney. The youngest Bassmaster Elite Series champion in history finally breaks his silence and shares his very raw and real thoughts on his Smith Lake disqualification.

    I watched the entire interview that Dave Mercer had with Trey Mc Kinney. I have been impressed with Trey McKinney but never more than I am now. What an inspiration he is to so many! I know this setback will not hold him back and pray he can get the much needed rest and that he can enjoy this next month of just fishing before his next big tournament! He always gives God all the glory and has never blamed anyone but himself for the short comings he has had this season which I admire even more and to be only 19 years old. Wishing you the very best, Trey!

I’ve been a fan of Taku since he won on the St. Lawrence . Gotta have more “Taku time” in the tournament world these days . His sense of humor is infectious !

    Another great show! Jake is awesome. The passion he has for being a cameraman and a father never gets old.

    Trey, I've a fan of him since the Lake Fork tournament. I was 19 once, and was irresponsible . No excuses but the mistakes he's made are learning moments. Young and dumb is what my dad always said. Don't misunderstand, I don't think Trey is dumb in any sense. He's got a shot at AOY. His English has come such a long way since he first showed up here on the Elites and the adversity he deals with being away from his home 8 months out of the year is crazy. I have a new found respect for Trey. His only excuse is that he just got confused and admitted it. Sounds pretty stand up to me. I love trey but I will say when you have your parents help you though life where you don’t have to deal with true issue on your own and stress because mom and dad are there to take over, those people seem to wanna give up a whole lot sooner, where as when your 19 or 17 and life slaps you in the face and you have to grow up earlier you deal with life a lot differently and have experienced a lot more and dealt with issues more differently. This has gotta drive you to prove people wrong even tho you shouldn’t have to it’s part of it, you can just give up when it gets hard. This is some of the biggest adversity he’s dealt with since he started I bet. This should do nothing but make trey stronger and I pray that it does.

    It might be a 3 episode show but it was great. Just going to talk about the Trey McKinney part though. People should have a different view of Trey if they had a dislike or jealous view of him before this interview. Should explain basically most everything about him, and I’m so glad you got him to agree to the interview. I think he needed it as much as anyone. Why do I think it explains most everything…dude, he spilled his guts to you. All you had to do was start the conversation and he unloaded all of the pent up emotions he had tearing his insides apart. I guess he’s having to learn some hard lessons early in life partly because he hasn’t experienced much outside of his core group of people. Sounds like his only focus was fishing and that was basically it besides his love for the Lord. He never had to worry about taking care of “the small things” because others did that for him. Now all of the sudden he’s leading the elite series and everyone is wanting him to do some sponsorship obligations, interviews, and other things besides fishing and he had too much going on and made mistakes. It’s a good and bad thing when you’re leading the points in the Elite series. With more success comes more commitments and I’m sure tough to deal with when all he wants to do is fish and probably had no clue how to manage the rest of the job. I think he’s a great kid who will have a lot of life lessons to learn, but that’s what molds us. You were the perfect guy for that interview. 👊

    To self-report knowing the astronomical implications on angler of the Year says a lot of someone's character.. I've gained a new amount of respect for trey, I've always appreciated his work ethic and how he approaches the sport and always being on the right side of anything and any drama.. I really hated that it had to happen this way and he lost his grip on angler of the year because that says more about an angler than a bassmaster classic win if you ask me... My own opinion I guess!! I couldn't wait to watch the little dude except that award and hold it high. And if I told you that I wasn't a little upset on the inside that he lost it over something so simple and small I would be lying.. but to take the initiative and self-report knowing the implications and knowing what's on the line, I don't think some people will be able to wrap their mind around with a big deal that is!!

    • @factsoffishing
      @factsoffishing  5 дней назад

      He dealt with it like a man. You have to self report if you respect the sport at all. It’s not over yet he is only 24 points back. It got a lot tougher but it’s far from over. Thanks for watching and commenting

      @@LaurenBaker-yh8dw he did self report, I checked with the tournament director. How it works is you sign the back of your weigh in slip and talk to the tournament director after weigh in.

      He lied on stage. All this is out there on video. And the guy who told him he better self report has already put it out there. Love the long episodes, Jake's Take and Taku were top notch as always. Trey kept saying over and over it was the 7 minutes. It wasn't him being late, he could've missed weigh in and it not been a big deal. It was him answering the call. And then him calling out people calling him out. He ran the bridge, admitted to not watching the videos, and then breaks a rule. Everyone makes mistakes, but it's how you handle them and react to them.

    • @factsoffishing

      @@factsoffishing"he's cheating, he's doing this, he's getting an edge... the imagination of some of these people... that's crazy" He was leading the AOY and got a penalty for running a no wake, a penalty for not watching the video, and DQ'd for breaking a rule, and fined and warned for cutting live trees at Wheeler. No imagination, just people critical of his action

  • @mattmcveigh2267
    @mattmcveigh2267 5 дней назад +1

    I was hoping Trey would explain when he realized he broke a rule and when he self reported. I believe when he weighed his fish on stage, he knew he broke a rule. On stage he said, "something don't feel right" when he realized he was late. Yeah, something didn't feel right...someone told you you're late.
    It seems the reality of the situation is that he had his check in time mixed up, that's an understandable (but stupid) mistake. When you have your check in time mixed up, usually you don't just show up only 6 minutes late.
    He may be a great kid, but he's got some growing up to do.

    • @factsoffishing
      @factsoffishing  5 дней назад +2

      I think he clearly explained that. He got a call from a family member asking if he was ok. Then realized he was late, so he got in 7 minutes late. When he weighed in he signed the back of his weight slip which means he has a rules infraction to talk to Lisa (the Tournament Director) about. Lisa called him after weigh in and him getting the call was revealed. Thats why he had a 7lb penalty originally then it was changed to him losing his full weight from day 2. Hope this helps ya

    • @mattmcveigh2267
      @mattmcveigh2267 4 дня назад

      @factsoffishing I understand that. In a case like this, is the DQ immediately known, or does it take a while for the TD to make sure the correct call is made?
      What I'm saying is I have my doubts that he'd self report something if he knew he wouldn't get caught. What he said on stage almost seemed like he wasn't revealing what actually happened. Go back and watch what he told you if you haven't yet.
      Could it be intentional, maybe? Is it immaturity, possibly? He's learning the hard way for sure.
