Video of the 5 things I hate about the Lexus ISF. Check out the video of 5 things I love about the Lexus ISF. ruclips.net/user/edit?o=U&vide... IG: @isfaster
I just did a similar video a couple of weeks ago. Figs make an oil cooler kit for the F (you probably already knew that). But nice seeing others making ISF videos, were a rare breed.
Yup, this video has been on my to-do list for a while and finally got some time to making it. I mention the RR-Racing and Figs auxiliary oil coolers but I think it's a joke how quickly our cars oil temps get so hot on track in warmer weather. Lexus should have addressed this issue before the release since they had to have had this same issue during testing. It was only recently that the auxiliary oil coolers were released so for years ISF owners were SOL. Glad to see you are making videos too! We've gotta spread the word!
Great to hear! Always great to hear/see other F cars on track. It’s almost like seeing a unicorn! Try it without the oil cooler first and see how she does in your climate and tracks.
All valid points from your experience with the F. It’s like grasping at straws to come up with top five gripes for me, but her goes: 1) Brake dust from stock pads, breaks are awesome just more dusty . 2) Shifter doesn’t have a boot cover. Seeing the gate looks cheap. If it had a cover, I would say the interior is perfect. 3) Narrow tires from factory, easily fixed. I run 245 out front and 275 rears for the summer setup. Actually, can only come up with three items that are a little annoying, that’s it. The F is a great balance of power, handling, and reliability.
Nice. You're right, it's a good all around vehicle, jack of all trades and master of none. I remedied the stock pad brake dust with new Project Mu NS400 pads. They're great for street use and hardly any dust.
In the development of the ISF video you can see the oil at 5 bars running at Fuji. And in the summer Fuji gets way hotter than Cali. So the engineers did see the oil getting hotter but I guess they didn't think it was a concern.
2013 ISF here, all valid points, however the oil issue can be addressed with a quality synthetic oil like Redline 5W-30. The stock headers are known to crack, so yes, replacing them with PPE or Sikky works well and gets you a lot more power. The rear seat? well, unless you're 6'3, you'd be ok.
Have you personally ran your car on a road course for a full 20+ minute session at full throttle on an 80+ degree day and not had any oil overhead issues with that oil? If so that would be great to hear as I would love a fix that doesn’t include the known fix of having to buy and install an auxiliary oil cooler. Thanks.
Cool videos man. I have a 2012 ISF too. You mentioned you upgraded to wider tires...but also had new springs. You think there would be any fitment issues with out the new springs? I wouldn't think so... What's the aspect ratio of your front and backs? Thinking about upgrading my tires as well.
@@ISFASTER That's good to hear. Do you believe the IS350 has a restriction in the exhaust?? Do you have any drone?? I'm thinking about going with Xforce or Tannbe
Not too sure about the IS350. I will get a slight drone in 8th gear going up a gradual hill like on a freeway but can easily be fixed by shifting down and punching it. 😁😁😁
More than likely it’s the pad. I hate hearing that sound during normal street driving too. My track pads squeal but have a lot better bite and heat resistance so it’s a trade off.
Nice Video, My ISF has the intake and PPE headers full on exhaust system. The only thing I hate is when I come to a stop on traffic light, someone thinks I want to race. Most people here on Guam think my ISf is either a 250/350 moded with ISF body kit. But when they hear the motor rev they know it's not a Badged F car. It is a sleeper car, that would have gotten recognition if Lexus tuned it at least 500bhp N/A . Just the thought would have made a huge difference for the market, I am sure Lexus was still remaining to the Luxury heritage and had to detuned the output bhp to comply with US standards and be salable. That's where import tuner companies make their $$$ by providing the aftermarket upgrades. It will be nice to take on the shelby mustang, hellcats, track hawks, Corvette z06/Zr1 and BMW M5. But when their superchargers or turbo chargers kick in, on a freeway race the ISF can only keep up... I still believe it's more on the driver than the car itself.
Probably my biggest gripe with this car is it doesn't have a good sport automatic mode. It's pretty obvious the trans logic is to get in as high a gear as fast as possible. Even with sport mode engaged, it takes forever to downshift when you punch it because you're cruising around town in 8th gear! Oh, and a nice analog clock would've been nice.
I agree with how long it takes to downshift when punching it in 8th but during spirited driving it’ll hold gears in corners and deceleration fairly well. I usually move over to manual mode though.
@@ISFASTER Yeah, sport auto is pretty good when punching it from a stop. Agree about the stock tires, they often struggle for grip but getting wheelspin in 3rd gear on dry pavement sure is fun!
Lack of camber is the part that drives me nuts. My SC400 has adjustable camber. Not too crazy but enough. Crazy to see that they didn't give us the option with the ISF. Those are some really important mods!
do the tires stick out past the fenders? i watched another video about the rcf and how lexus had to add this weird little extra tab on the fender in the rear because supposedly its illegal for the tires to stick out past the fenders. no idea if thats true but just a thought
When and How much did you guys pay for your ISF? Also how many miles? Lastly What year do you guys have? I’m a 19 year old and I’m thinking of buying a isf by the time I’m 21
Yea japan gets hot as fuck. I’d say temp wise it’s close to southern ca/la in the summer but its considerably more humid. Close to Florida levels of humidity. So I’m sure they experienced the oil heat issue. There’s no way they are changing the oil every 8-10 laps
I think the main issue is Lexus really didn’t make these cars to be sports cars alone like a mustang are camaro they still tend to lean toward the luxury and reliability side of things, maybe the RCF are the GSF you get better performances but your now talking about $40,000 to 50,000 grand
No doubt Toyota/Lexus is conservative, especially with change. At the time of release of the ISF they had no performance vehicle classed above it in the Lexus lineup so it’s not as if they had to cap the power to not step into the next territory, kind of like how Porsche has to do that with the Cayman -> 911. Tire size could have easily been increased at a very small cost if any and greatly helped grip/performance out of the box.
The tires are small on purpose for safety reasons. All manufacturers purposely make sports car under steer for this reason. They don't want the amateur spinning the car into a tree. It's easily remedied.
Mobile 1 Full Synthetic 5W30. Doesn’t matter what brand or weight you use, same result. Only true fix is the auxiliary oil cooler or run when the temps are cooler.

I think the ticking from the fuel pump is normal. If you hear the ticking upon cold start and it goes away as the car warms up then I think that would be a cracked header.
Worried about your car’s oil going too Hot. Move out of that shithole state. Dude Lexus sold it as a daily car NOT a track car daily driven. LOL. Lexus have to comply with EPA that’s why the exhaust are the way this.
Have you ever looked at the stock system vs an aftermarket system? If so then you would see all the crimps and terrible angles the exhaust gases have to pass through. Lexus could have still passed EPA standards with catalytic converters in place and extracted more power.

I agree with you on the tires. IS350 gets 225/45, I hated it so I put 235 instead. I can't see IS-F with 225 upfront. Idk what they were thinking.
Yup, I would love to speak with whoever was in charge of tires selection to try and figure out their rational for the tires that were chosen.

Not one a stock setup suspension with a 2012 stock wheel and 285 wide tires.
If an ISF owner does not take the vehicle to the track will there still be potential issues with the overheating of the oil?
Probably not unless you’re driving somewhere extremely hot doing track like driving.

So to sum up as I see it: not the ideal car for track in stock form but a hell of a nice car to drive and enjoy on day to day basis.
It’s a great daily driver. As long as it’s a cooler track day and you’ve put some better/wider rubber on then you’ll have a good time on track.
