I am a Chinese fan. I think Korean players play more traditionally. Basically, the offense is mainly based on three-point shooting and fast breaks. Personally, I think it was a bit boring to watch kbl before. The three-point shooting ability of each team determines the upper limit of the team. But Filipino players brought a new style of play to kbl. Filipino players play more American style. They are very capable of holding the ball in singles. Whether it is cutting to the basket to score or various tricks such as step-back shots and fade-away jumpers, they have brought a new style to kbl and made the game better.
In addition, the Filipino players have also demonstrated outstanding jumping ability at the guard position, which is often a physical talent that Korean guards do not often possess. Like in this video, the jumping ability allows them to have more high-profile performances such as blocking shots and dunks. Similarly, the arrival of Filipino players can also stimulate the improvement of Korean local guards player.
I like Ethan Alvano from Wonju DB Promy more. He may not have the jumping ability of Rhenz Abando or the passing vision of Rhon Jhay Abarrientos, but he is a more complete player with both offense and defense and excellent isolation ability with the ball. His style reminds me of Donovan Mitchell.

Abarrientos' no look passes are gold! He also knows how to look for available teammates to take the shot when he can't push one. He is really entertaining to watch. KBL is really lucky to have him.
When Filipinos goes to the hoop and dunk it has artistic and a slam dominance. They don't just dunk it but they dunk it with style and with an exclamation. When they operate inside or direct a play it looks like they have eyes behind their head and knows where to find their teammates for a perfect assist.
Difference is mostly on the style of play. Koreans tend to play around the teams system for example, meanwhile Ph players pattern their game towards the NBA which is mostly reliant on individual skill and isolation plays.

That's right. They were scouted from a collegiate basketball, UAAP and NCAA Phil. It is their rookie year being professional ballers in KBL. in Abando's case, he was once part of the Gilas, a team that represents the Phil internationally but the coach was being biased and has his own favorites unfortunately for abando wasn't one of them. Same goes to abarientos though at least he was given better chance than abando being left out. Even other members of the team know this fact. Reason why most basketball fans curse that coach for being so political.
but that's a fact... these players are not top notch players in PH... they really have potential, tho! and glad they play in KBl first because korean coaches unleash those potential could only become dormant if they play in PBA.. i'm more curious of how a terrence or a scottie fair to KBL if they play there..
Filipino children are allowed to play outside the house during the day. Sunlight also helps to make bones strong. They bring with them being active in the game so their skill seems to be easy for them. Look at they're skin dark. That's the mark of diligence in playing. Thanks to KBL.

To all my Korean friends, the reason why filipino guards tend to be individually talented compared to there Korean counterparts is solely based on the Basketball culture in the Philippines which was influenced by the Americans. While in South Korea, basketball is played in a system where its more team focused, in the Philippines its mostly on the players individual talents, but don’t get me wrong the Philippines system of basketball is severely outdated. Due to the modernization of basketball at the collegiate level in the Philippines, we see players rising up like Belangel, Abberientos and, Abando. The last reason why most of the Filipino players in the KBL are all guards is simply because the guard position is the most lucrative position in all of the Philippines, because of the country’s low average height at 5’4 most filipinos become guards.
I can't agreed more! even if the Koreans watched NBA games in the past, the style of kbl was forced and limited by the league style. they didn't believe in fancy plays, aka behind the back, no look, and so on. coaches block the players to play in such way. Now, perhaps, filipino players will change the kbl culture. it is a good sign for the KBL and rest of the basketball fans in South Korea. Soooo trucking fast and skilled is what I observed from Filipino players.
@@baseballman74 I do understand the reason why the Koreans implemented a team focused system was due to the influence of the Europeans, and how they’ve become successful in the Basketball scene relying on fundamentals compared to flashiness and athleticism. The problem with that sort of system is it doesn’t give freedom to the players individual talents. Thats why we see more and more European players branching out from the team player to the ball/isolation handler.

It's cool to see Filipinos in the KBL, we always had more talent but unlike Korea, we seldom play basketball the way it's supposed to be played. Koreans have always played basketball the right way and that's why they're always the better team when faced against our national team. I am really hoping that this keeps up and we can learn a lot from them.
I disagree. Ph always lost to the Korea because the national team lineup are ALWAYS players older. The experiment of GIlas with fielding younger national players resulted in 2 wins in FIBA. It's not a fluke. It's just the previous Ph national teams are always old veterans. Basketball is sport of the young after all. In the NBA if you hit 30 you are considering retirement while in the Ph national league it's the average playing age.
@@davefamular5305 The veterans should fare better since they're more experienced, plus, during those games, they're not that old against Korea, their playstyle is antiquated that's why they're at a disadvantage. The younger team is even more talented, that roster's average height is 6'7, far taller than our usual 6'3-6'4 average roster height, that's about as tall as the top FIBA teams, to top it off, they're also playing under a better and more efficient system in contrast to Chot's dribble drive that has been proven to be quite ineffective.
It's so great to see the creativity, expressiveness and freedom on display by these amazing Filipino players. Best thing I've seen a professional league do to change the dynamic of their league completely. They are far better than the American Imports in terms of value for money and entertainment value. And they seem to care more about playing than their more expensive counterparts. True Hoopers are what they are. I hope both Korean and Filipino players improve tremendously from competing day in day out, and one day it'll be the Americans doing the importing. Oh wait, the NBA is already doing that ...
I'm really happy for these Filipino imports in Korea, their talents and skills became more outstanding it shows how good Korea training their players and how bad Philippines' coaching system is. These Filipino imports even surprised and defeated their own national team (SMB) from the Philippines when they got face to face. I'm happy to see their achievements. Hope Korea will still keep them and develop more their talents.
finally, the kbl got some fun players to change the league style. KBL was soooooo boring for a looooooong time. the last time I was watching KBL was when Hur, Jae and other older players... now KBL could catchup to the rest of the world! Fun to watch for sure!!!!

They have their own strengths Abando and Gutang are the most athletic Albano is the most shifty guard RJ is the most skillful, playmaker, dimer and shooter and SJ is clutch and shot creator, he just didn't get much minutes he deserves.
I've been a fan of Belangel since his buzzer beater shot in the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifying game against Korea. It's good to see him do well and thrive in the KBL along with RJ Abbarientos who played as point guard during his stay in the Far Eastern University basketball team. I am also amazed with Abando's skills and talent and here's to hoping that they continue to excel and improve as they play for the KBL. Thanks to KBL and to the Korean players and coaches for welcoming the Filipino players :)
most koreans and filipino fans doesn't realize is that these filipino players excel in Korea because of Korean coaches... korean coaches know what filipino players can do. Filipino players specially filipino guards fit the system of Korean style of basketball.. this is the difference between japan and Korean basketball japanese coaches is trying to make filipino guards to play like Japanese guards dribbling around running around in circles... as to Korean coaches pass the ball move the ball around til someone gets a good look and Korean coaches lets their filipino guards do iso plays... i honestly believe that philippine national team needs a Korean coach
@@enerji4330 They are good players but if the coaches don't know how to use them, they can not do what they do best. Just look at Lauri Markkanen at utah jazz, how he became all-star type of player after getting trade to Utah. He was spot up shooter at other teams but utah coach let him do what he is good at by changing team strategy.
What the hell are you talking about? It means given the opportunity these players have the skills to excel in kbl. The only contribution of the coach in that is the confidence and minutes. Those highlights shows individual greatness. Stop overthinking haha

Abarientos gutang alabano that's how they played not only in kbl. I give credit to coaches in set plays and using the right people. Skills will show win or lose as long as a skilled player will be given enough minutes to play.
I would love to see RJ, Alvano and Abando in one team, it would be a great trio.. With Alvano's basketball IQ and RJ's 3 point shooting and a good passer as well and high jumper player like Abando

The reason why some Filo Guards are good at this sport, is because at such a Young age They're already playing Basketball with the Adults like Rhenz Abando. Because in this way, Younger player Will improve some Skills they learned from the adults in another level. That's why someday when this kids is already at the right age to Compete at higher level, They never get left behind but rather they're Imposing New skills or System that the Old gen has to adopt on their own... Every Filo ballers know this saying, " The Harder It was the better it will be. "
Tall Filipino players already tried in the NBA but failed. The super Athletic 6'9" Japeth Aguilar, the 6'4" Shooting guard/point guard Bobby Ray Parks, the highlight kid 6'6" Small Forward/Shooting Guard Kobe Paras and the 7'3" Athletic kid Kai Sotto all failed to be drafted in the NBA.
Filipinos can execute plays with american imports because we play the same style and phase. Great to see these filipinos stepping up in KBL! hope this helps all players and teams in the league

It's cool to see Filipinos in the KBL, we always had more talent but unlike Korea, we seldom play basketball the way it's supposed to be played. Koreans have always played basketball the right way and that's why they're always the better team when faced against our national team. I am really hoping that this keeps up and we can learn a lot from them.
I disagree. Ph always lost to the Korea because the national team lineup are ALWAYS players older. The experiment of GIlas with fielding younger national players resulted in 2 wins in FIBA. It's not a fluke. It's just the previous Ph national teams are always old veterans.
Basketball is sport of the young after all. In the NBA if you hit 30 you are considering retirement while in the Ph national league it's the average playing age.
@@davefamular5305 The veterans should fare better since they're more experienced, plus, during those games, they're not that old against Korea, their playstyle is antiquated that's why they're at a disadvantage. The younger team is even more talented, that roster's average height is 6'7, far taller than our usual 6'3-6'4 average roster height, that's about as tall as the top FIBA teams, to top it off, they're also playing under a better and more efficient system in contrast to Chot's dribble drive that has been proven to be quite ineffective.

It's so great to see the creativity, expressiveness and freedom on display by these amazing Filipino players. Best thing I've seen a professional league do to change the dynamic of their league completely. They are far better than the American Imports in terms of value for money and entertainment value. And they seem to care more about playing than their more expensive counterparts. True Hoopers are what they are.
I hope both Korean and Filipino players improve tremendously from competing day in day out, and one day it'll be the Americans doing the importing. Oh wait, the NBA is already doing that ...

I'm really happy for these Filipino imports in Korea, their talents and skills became more outstanding it shows how good Korea training their players and how bad Philippines' coaching system is. These Filipino imports even surprised and defeated their own national team (SMB) from the Philippines when they got face to face. I'm happy to see their achievements. Hope Korea will still keep them and develop more their talents.
finally, the kbl got some fun players to change the league style. KBL was soooooo boring for a looooooong time. the last time I was watching KBL was when Hur, Jae and other older players... now KBL could catchup to the rest of the world! Fun to watch for sure!!!!

I've been a fan of Belangel since his buzzer beater shot in the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifying game against Korea. It's good to see him do well and thrive in the KBL along with RJ Abbarientos who played as point guard during his stay in the Far Eastern University basketball team. I am also amazed with Abando's skills and talent and here's to hoping that they continue to excel and improve as they play for the KBL. Thanks to KBL and to the Korean players and coaches for welcoming the Filipino players :)

most koreans and filipino fans doesn't realize is that these filipino players excel in Korea because of Korean coaches... korean coaches know what filipino players can do. Filipino players specially filipino guards fit the system of Korean style of basketball.. this is the difference between japan and Korean basketball japanese coaches is trying to make filipino guards to play like Japanese guards dribbling around running around in circles... as to Korean coaches pass the ball move the ball around til someone gets a good look and Korean coaches lets their filipino guards do iso plays... i honestly believe that philippine national team needs a Korean coach

Just look at Lauri Markkanen at utah jazz, how he became all-star type of player after getting trade to Utah.
He was spot up shooter at other teams but utah coach let him do what he is good at by changing team strategy.
What the hell are you talking about? It means given the opportunity these players have the skills to excel in kbl. The only contribution of the coach in that is the confidence and minutes. Those highlights shows individual greatness. Stop overthinking haha

Abarientos gutang alabano that's how they played not only in kbl. I give credit to coaches in set plays and using the right people. Skills will show win or lose as long as a skilled player will be given enough minutes to play.

The reason why some Filo Guards are good at this sport, is because at such a Young age They're already playing Basketball with the Adults like Rhenz Abando. Because in this way, Younger player Will improve some Skills they learned from the adults in another level. That's why someday when this kids is already at the right age to Compete at higher level, They never get left behind but rather they're Imposing New skills or System that the Old gen has to adopt on their own...
