    Obviously you two guys did not simply mess around with this thing and make a video in a few minutes. You truly got to know the amp and learned what works for you on every front. Product knowledge is key, and you went above and beyond here...Excellent demo and review. Thank you

    Mitch Gallagher is the reason i subscribed to Sweetwater's channel... He reviews gear from the musician's stand point, not just a standard riff vid, to sell stuff... It's great that Nick is there as well. His humor, & great chops, make for an interesting flipside to Mitch's style of play... Another Great Sweetwateer demo !!!!

      Yeah I appreciate their humor too and actual musician so they know what we’re all looking for, Tone these have got some very nice options and when you compare the cost to some of the expensive tube amps and some are getting almost 10 times the cost the question is can my little pea brain tell the difference lol probably not unless I was in a huge concert hall with a fully cranked Marshall or something. The way they built for a transistor amp is really quite hard to believe especially the way they emulated the power switch 5 watt 50 watt like they try to do on the tube amps now tells me that is really impressive they put a lot of thought into this And Boss had the experience with them cube amps for decades of having good sound

    I have the Gen 1 Katana 100 1x12 and it's just unreal. What you get for the money is amazing, and it sounds good in every mode, clean, crunchy, high or low reverb, or just straight 80's hair metal.

I love how Nick is so humble, like he's "not a good player" : ) For those who don't know, as for someone who grew up on "Grim Reaper",...Nick can DEFINITELY play, and play WELL. : ) Absolutely fantastic video once again! Got the MK2 100 and my only complaint is that the basically must have foot switch is an "option" rather than being included with the amp. Sold as a "gigabel" amp but when playing live who can run to the amp to change channels in the middle of a tune? However, for tinkering in the living room it is great out of the box.

    Hey, that guy’s guitar is backwards.
    Trolling aside, where's the Mark II version of the Artist? Also, we're almost in 2020, and still no Bluetooth or mobile connectivity. Plugging in with a USB cable is okay with me, but Boss needs to be aware that many people don't even own a computer anymore, so iOS and Android support are important.

    • @TheSammyreynolds
      @TheSammyreynolds 5 лет назад +4

      The Artists will probably be out in a year or so. I agree with Bluetooth. If Yamaha can do it with the Thr's, Boss could do it with the Katana's.

    • @kevin285

      The air is the same spec as the katana version 3 with the cab resonance 4 effects at once etc etc .I wouldn't have bought a katana if they hadn't made the air it was the artist features with the stereo and Bluetooth and wireless that made the air something I would buy. I just add 2 x frfr speakers and use it as a gigging head when not at home.
      Without wireless and Bluetooth not moved forward enough.
      The air Just needs separated booster menu and able to move it to before or after mod and it would be perfect.
      Looking out for either update or mk2 air
      Don't use any other amp

  • @kevin285
    @kevin285 4 года назад +2

    Even though the new model has the ability to run booster and mod separately along with fx delay and reverb whilst in app old one can only do booster/mod fx delay and reverb the problem is that you can't move booster behind mod and that's important so boss need to add that and I'very lobbying boss to do this for the air via app
    And if they won't seperate out booster from mod on air and have a pre and post mod button then they need to add the booster menu as a secondary menu to fx control in app like delay2 is reachable via reverb menu as a secondary menu.
    Then you can put wah etc ahead of distortion fuzz etc

    TBH, I'd be perfectly fine with 'only' 50 watts, so I'm disappointed Boss opted to 'cheap out' by not having the same number of presets on the 50-watt as the 100-watters. IMO, only two presets available was never enough. [edit] I'd have also appreciated finally having a built-in tuner added somehow.
    Past that, great demo and explanation of the amp line as usual, and the sounds are great.

    • @blue-tb2fd

      "The panel real estate is the same size" not true, otherwise they'd be able to fit a presence knob as well.

      blue Oops. You’re right there. I stand corrected. That 50 watter’s shot went by pretty fast so I guess I must have been checking the wrong stills. (I’ll edit that error out so as to not confuse anyone.)
      But I’ll still say that two presets don’t seem enough for an improved model. IME and IMO, that is.

    Just sold my MkII 100 W 1x12 after 4 months. Not that it wasn't amazing, I just could never get a proper live room sound with it. Something was always missing. My sound needs tubes, I guess. And such modeling is wasted on my simple needs. Back to my Peavey Classic 50 4x10.

    Please do a review of the Katana Artist 100 MkII...the best just got better! And, BTW, here's a tip...turn the Master Volume all the way up...and use the volume control, next to the gain, to adjust your volume. It utilizes class A/B power, and it gets really dynamic and it makes a huge difference. Plus TONS of upgrades and features on the ARTIST MKII, and the WAZA speaker!

Very impressive package I feel this can work as a valuable tool in a home studio I have a Kerry King Marshal for that too But this is portable by myself And with a laptop or a phone man got some serious options. Generally I try to keep it simple I will probably pick anywhere from 5 to 15 favorites and that will be it for ease of use ability without a phone book to remember everything LOL

    Roland needs to address the connection failure on Mac OS. Amp will not connect and "switch from slave mode to normal" appears. There are thousands of unanswered posts out there and they offer no solution other than what's in the manual, which does no good. I got the MK2 100W head with a 2X12 cabinet and now cannot edit anything through Tone Studio on Mac.

    Great demo, gents. No doubt these amps offer amazing bang for the buck. Although, there's something about the overdriven tones that sounds harsh, or even brittle. I was *this* close to buying a Mk1 100-watt combo, but opted instead to get a used Tech 21 Trademark 60 and running pedals into the clean channel. After this demo, I'm kind of in the same boat. Hopefully I can get a chance to actually plug into one of these and make the call.

I need to know if the Mk2 (particularly the 2X12 Combo) is better than the Artist Mk1?? No-one seems to be talking about how it compares to the Artist. It's cheaper than what I paid and I'm thinking I should have got that instead - If I'd known about the Mk2 coming out, I would have waited and got the Mk2. Someone said the speakers haven't been upgraded on the Mk2, so does that mean my Artist mk1 is still better? Which one would you choose? Would you still choose the Artist Mk1 over the Mk2?

      No, you're fine. There's nothing inherently better about the 1st gen compared to the 2nd gen. Same technology (for the most part), more features.

      Artist is supposed to have the better speaker. Mk2 has some great features but yours should still be the better amp.

    Hey Folks at Sweetwater really liked your video on the katana, thinking about getting one but a couple questions though , how does this amplifier work in an R&B Neo-Soul , Blues / Gospel kind of feel.

      Hi, Carlton. The nice thing about the Katana amps is they have a wide range of tones and gain levels. For what you're describing, it would be able to handle that well.

      Hello, great question! You do not need an audio interface to use the Katana with the studio software - you can just connect it to your computer via USB.

    I'm curious about the stereo input. Surely, you can use it with any amp, right? Not just another Katana? I have the Kt50, but I may have to sell it to get one of these. The info is not clear, on that.

    • @GabrielGAS1201
      @GabrielGAS1201 4 года назад

      you mean the stereo "output" thing, I think that, from what Ryan from 60 cycle hum read in the manual, when you plug the line out and toggle the stereo option it turns the line into the "left signal" and you can plug it on another katana/powered speaker/power amp+cab.
      so when you toggle the stereo on you have
      Katana 1 pre amp> stereo divider:
      R(mono) signal> katana 1 power section > Katana 1 Speaker
      L(Stereo) signal> Katana 1 lineout jack > cable > chosen power amp>speaker
      with the mkII having a power amp in and being cheap and having a power amp in it would be an obvious choice of being your stereo power amp/speaker combo.

      @@GabrielGAS1201 Yeah, I'll watch that. From the Boss manual, it implies that you need another K2. But that doesn't seem right, to me. I have a kt50, which I might be able to keep, if it works. That is really the best new feature, to me, other than the dual knobs. Thanks, for the info.

    Someone please help! So, modeling the tube and power amps makes the 50 watt Katana as loud as a 50 watt tube amp or as loud as a 50 watt solid state???

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  3 года назад

      Hi, Josue! Thanks for your message, hope you're well and safe.
      The short answer is yes. The 1x12 is loud, the 2x12 is louder. Depending on which amp (tube or solid state) you compare the Katana to, it compares favorable to either. Not knowing your particular scenario, I can't advise further. You're welcome to contact us direct for more.

    I have a question for whoever can answer.. I live in an apartment and the trouble I have is my Marshall DSL 40c is too loud. If I push the tubes enough to get that good Marshall tube tone it is way too loud and if I turn it down to a bedroom volume I don’t get that awesome tube tone.
    I have considered getting the Katana MK2 and selling the Marshall or putting a good attenuator on the Marshall tube amp. I am unsure which would be a better option. I personally never heard a solid state amp that ever sounded as good as a tube amp so I am concerned about that. As for effects I do have a Line 6 Helix and Joe Satriani Vox pedals. I also have 2 Presonus Studio Monitors.
    In my current setup am I better off getting the new Katana or putting an attenuator on my Marshall DSL 40c?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  4 года назад +1

      Hi, Leviathon. There isn't a right or wrong there. The Katana sounds great and can get great sounds at pretty much any volume level. That being said, since you already have the Marshall, an attenuator would make a lot of sense. That way you get to keep using your tube amp, and can get it at the volume levels you need.

    quick question please. thinking of changing from my dsl40 to the mk2. not sure if i need the the 50watt 1×12 or the 100watt 1×12. my main concern is that i was using a be-od pedal on my clean channel of dsl and it barely keeps up for stage volume. playing std coverband stuff 80s thrown in at local bars. any feedback is appreciated on size amp needed. Thank you

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  4 года назад +1

      Great question! Even the 100W Boss Katana will not be as loud as your DSL40. Wattage in solid state/digital amps does not convert proportionally to wattage in tube amps in terms of loudness. If you would like some recommendations on what amp to get, please give us a call and we can go into more detail on what will be best for your specific needs. Thanks!

    what the difference between a katana mk2 vs katana ARTIST mk2?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  4 года назад

      Hi, MNZ-79. Simply from a tone perspective, the Artist will have a bigger and clearer sound. This is because it has a larger cabinet enclosure and an upgraded speaker. On top of that, you can save an additional bank of presets, you get additional cab emulations, and a global EQ control. Overall, the standard Katana is a great amp for the money, but if your budget allows for the Artist, it is definitely a very nice upgrade. Thanks for your interest!

      Hey, Murph! Thanks for reaching out. Several Boss foot switches could work with the Katana MKII, but the GA-FC gives you the most control and it's what is recommended. The GA-FC also allows you to connect additional expression pedals.

    How well does this take a pedal board?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  3 года назад

      Hi, Mike. The Katana does pretty well with pedals, especially for a solid state amp at that price point. That being said, it is mostly designed to use the built in sounds and effects. If you're wanting something that will act as a pedal platform, I would probably check out some of the smaller tube amp offerings. The Fender Blues Jr, Bugera V22, or Vox AC4 would all be good options to check out.
