Herringbone gears have the advantage of stronger helical gears and cancel thrust loads

@@GearBoxVideo wow would never have known, I’m amazed there isn’t a queue of cosworth T5 gearboxes at your feet when you come over. I got my T5 built 2 gears ago would of be an honour for you to do it

I had a bunch of seirra t5 parts and one time made replacement 5th gears, but there was not enough demand to continue

@@GearBoxVideo maybe to do with them not being tuned much anymore and people returning to stock. They were commonly tuned to over 500hp back in the 90’s which is impressive for a 4 cylinder.
