Rob Rides EMTB blasphemy but I wouldn’t mind a hand throttle but they are probably illegal in Europe like everything else lol weak European motor too 😂
Hi Rob, Can you do a comparison on some of the bikes with smaller watt hours. You did a small review on a Lapierre with a 250w/hr battery, maybe something like that against the focus sam2. I'd like to gauge you thoughts on quality vs time on the bike. Also can you see how many runs you can squeeze out of them (as a decent orientated person may do). Cheers
I own a Thok MiG but I’m very hesitant going over jumps. I’m 130kg and I am not sure how much punishment it can take. My local track has some jumps that would get a bit over 2 metres air that I want to try but at the same time I don’t want the bike in 2 halves after trying it. Did you manage to get it over some decent jumps? Any tips would help. Thanks.
I agree about the quality of rear mechs these days. I feel like sometimes people need to put ego aside and look at the overall product. The best thing about a drive train is its the most affordable product to upgrade and can do it increments. Get the contact points and suspension dialled and your good to go!
Hi Rob, I love your reviews as I'm hoping to buy later this year. How about a leader board like Top Gear used to do. A lot of your tests include Swinley so it would give us an idea of what they are like going up and down the trails. 👍
Great review vid Rob, having ridden that bike a little bit i'd agree with your thoughts on it - still think its great fro the money and with a few tweaks (like the dropper and tyres) could be a fantastic package.
The new version is out, and I really would like to see a review of yours; I am sure that one of the thok creatures will be, one day, mine: beautiful, capable, relatively cheap, an absolute bargain!
Ahh yeah I missed that! Yes, it’s a very simple lock, battery removed with a key. Would prefer Allen Bolt personally, but not too bad (just don’t lose the key!)
That big weld at the base of the seat is not on the bike on the website pictures. maybe its been added for extra strength..... i love the look of this bike.........
Depends on the frame size. On websites, you will mostly see the pictures of size M bikes as usually they look the best and XL-XXL look the ugliest... :)
Call me old fashioned , I actually like seeing extra reinforcement in frames . A lot of bikes on the market these days , to me the frames construction look flawed . Maybe I'm wrong but , some just look like they are built for some other reason than optimal strength.
Rob, here's another business opportunity for you: I think it would be cool if the e-bike industry established a standardized test for range! Tire manufacturers do this for tires that are DOT rated in the USA. There's no reason this couldn't be done for ebike. This would end all the discussions about whether the comparisons are proper or not. If a test was created that used a machine/method for this purpose consumers could compare the different bike manufacturers systems together. All they would need to do is put them on a dynamometer and get the results. Nice trails.
..thanks Rob,great review...to be honest,i personally don't like that battery ,on the under-side of the down tube, probably great in dryer climates, like Italy, but here would be like a Crud-Catcher,which puts me off it a bit..but thats just me,nice bike otherwize..
I wonder what was going on Rob the quality was poo, then checked and YT stuck me on 480p lol @4k at looked a tad crisper :) .Bike wise nice price for that kit level, my issue would be style I just wouldn't have what I consider an older style frame where the battery is exposed. I want it streamlined and as sleek as possible. What can I say I'm a bike snob.
Good review. It looked a little sharper through the turns berm to berm. I think their website had a 150 or 160 travel bike as well. Looked the same, maybe just a different shock to give it more travel. I wonder if they setting up any North American distribution?
As for minimal mode display I think you can get a new inline tiny dongle that's got a single LED and colour coded to battery level (Think its Shimano but cant remember). Still got all the functionality via the mobile app though. Don't recall where I see it? Not too keen on an underslung battery, yeah they have done it to fit a bottle mount I get that but i'd rather protect the battery behind the downtube and lose the bottle cage personally.
Great work Rob, i enjoy the video's and technical reviews....how do you rate this motor it seems very noisy when loading up during climb. It is also noticeable when you cruising on the flat.....When are you going to test the E-zesty? I'm currently riding a Trek Fuel EX 9.7 but planning upgrading or adding a e-bike for the longer rides. Cheers From Downunder - Brisbane. Regards Bisek
I just purchased the 2018 Haibike 10.0 LT here in the US. Do you have any thoughts on this bike or have you done a test ride? BTW-So the companies send you the bikes, you then have to box 'em up and return all of them after a full review? Great bike though for the Italian design. Steps E-8000 is really getting popular as stated!
@@RobRidesEMTB Wow -Trek Hdqtrs is a stone throw from where I live (Waterloo, Wisconsin-USA). Perhaps they may feel they can do their own testing. Hope you get one though.
Are You checking out Ghost hybride Slamr x? 😁 Disko my Lbs sells this, think I'll go for that bike. The new Levo is expensive and have some issues, scares me a little😁
I can see why this would be on anyone’s shortlist, especially at that price, but my concern is around dealer support and after sales care. Personally, the Merida eOne Sixty is on my shortlist. Any chance of a review?
Russ Mead, I have the eONE-SIXTY 900e. I intended to get a Spectral:ON 9.0 but they were sold out, so went for the Merida instead. More expensive but a little more suspension travel and Di2. I don’t regret it; it’s awesome.
Adrian Walley nice one. I’ve watched a few reviews on RUclips and it always gets good marks, and to be honest, I’m sure it’s more than enough bike for me!
Power question: do You think that eco mode can balance the weight penalty, of up to 10kg over non e-bike, up a fairly steep hill? Or is it maybe less powerfull or significantly more powerfull mode, than that 10kg difference would require from a person to pull uphill? Are there any power numbers between modes shared for the consumers to find out?
Nice for the money I’ve have 11s NX on my push bike Work well I run 27.5x2.8 nobby nic on my ebike and run 17psi on the front 21psi on rear wouldn’t get away with as low as that on ie 2.4
Adrian Walley sorry Adrian got to disagree. Unless you’re riding on the flat. Elevation is a huge factor in mileage. Also weight, tyres, riding style. So many variables. But 40-60 miles, for trail riding in the U.K. is pretty ambitions for many riders.
Rob, I did a 44 mile Ridgeway ride with 1,965 feet elevation gain recently and was in the 20-40% battery band when I finished. Last July did a very technical 20 mile loop around the Ladybower Reservoir with 2,465 feet elevation gain and was in the 40-60% band when I finished. I think that fits pretty well with my estimate.
No, the power difference is not huge it is actually nothing because the continuous power of the pedelecs is 250W max (in the EU at least) and it will not change. Manufacturers are now just giving pretty much unverifiable torque numbers and I don't think the 120Nm (which equals the torque of a 1.2L petrol engine) is realistic...

Thanks David. I try and just give a real world perspective and talk through what I like / don’t like etc!
It’s great to get a proper review on a bike for once good job rob keep them coming 👍

If you had read the owners manual it says to turn battery on before putting any weight on the bike.

I agree, there needs to be something. Same with power too. I have a turbo trainer that can measure power / watts, might be able to work something out!
Have you seen the Mig-RR? it's been designed in collaboration with Ducati, looks awesome.
Very nice drivin’ 👍
I think the battery is mounted in the wrong place, like the weather conditons standards in the Uk. ;)

Good to know, thought that NX was a step below GX (which many eeb’s seem to use now) 👍👊
