You are the first to mention, or notice, the back and forward from bird to snake throughout the movie. Nice catch, thanks for pointing it out. A katniss plant is a swamp potato, and is recognized by its arrowhead leaves....as per google.
The substance Highbottom is drinking is called "morphling" in this universe. We'd call it morphine. He's a drug addict. (There are two victors called "the Morphlings" in Catching Fire. One of them dies to save Peeta. They are both also drug addicts.) Lamina (the girl with the axe) comes out of hiding to end Marcus' suffering. At one point he says, "Please" as in "please kill me" but it is hard to hear. Jessup got rabies on the train in the movie, I think. In the book he got it at the zoo. Dean Highbottom gave Lucy Gray some money, but she didn't receive a prize like the later victors do. Katniss is the next female victor from 12. Her games are 64 years later. Katniss (the character) is named after katniss the plant that Lucy is holding. Both she and her sister, Primrose, were named for plants. It's edible, which is why Lucy Gray says she's going to dig some up later. This whole movie takes place over the course of one Summer between what we would call high school and university. It's not made clear in the book if Lucy Gray is alive or dead. Snow can't find her. I do believe the final scenes in the forest are meant to mimic the traps and such we will later see in Katniss' arenas. As if they are the final two in their own personal games. He later claims to be the victor but I would like it if that were not entirely true. (Team Lucy Gray)
42:45 to answer your question about the cousin, tigris. Yes she’s the stylist that helps hides them in Mockingjay part 2. Clearly in this movie we see that her and Snow are very close. But by the end of the movie you can see their relationship start to get strained because tigris realizes how evil Snow is. She’s scared of him. Regardless, when Snow comes to power he makes her a stylist in the hunger games. Eventually snow turns on her and thats why he makes her get all kinds of plastic surgery to make her look like a tiger. Its a punishment. I don’t think they ever explain exactly what happened or why snow turns on her. We’re just supposed to know that he back stabs her the way he does to everyone. My theory is that she stands up to him or criticizes him at some point. Because she’s good and I’m guessing he eventually did something so evil that she says something to him that he doesn’t like.
@@davidfairweather3301 correct but from every single interaction they had and from the nature of their relationship, we can assume that she didnt do it voluntarily
What's interesting about this movie for me was that the weapons here were more like how I envisioned them when I read thr first book. Crude and makeshift. Not chrome and tactical. It'll never not be funny that Snow was screwed over by a girl from district 12 twice, lol
I think they did a good job of showing that the games were broadcasted in the original series. Katniss looks into the cameras multiple times. 1. Every time she kissed Peeta it’d switch to Gale (lol). Outside or in a cave they had her on all angles. 2. When Rue died she threw up the 3’s /gave her a memorial and Rue’s district rioted after seeing all that compassion & sadness. 3. After she’d been burned by the fire & was in need of balm, Haymitch saw her struggling w/her injury & immediately went to get her sponsors to send medicine. These are just a few examples. Maybe you’ll catch it the next time you watch the series….
Yeah obviously it would be way more advanced than this later on but it’s probably similar to what Haymitch and other victor mentors are seeing. We did get to see a bit in the movies of Haymitch watching Katniss struggling with the burn and trying to get sponsors
Sorry I keep commenting but you said you wanted your questions answered in the comments so here i am lmao. lucy didn’t get any reward. At this point the only reward for winning was your life. We don’t know exactly when they started giving the victors money as a reward. Ok now for the big question: did lucy gray die? We don’t know. What happened to her is supposed to be a mystery. The author wanted it that way. Maybe she did get shot and ran away and eventually died of her wounds. Maybe he actually missed and she just fell cuz she was diving for cover. Then she ran off. Maybe she got shot and it wasn’t a fatal wound so she ran off and lived a long happy life away from panem. We will never know what really happened. And it haunts Snow for the rest of his life. He tries to erase her memory by destroying all the footage of the 10th games. But despite all his efforts her memory lives on through her music (specifically the hanging tree) and other rebels like her. Eventually katniss comes around and even her name reminds him of lucy gray. So she literally haunts him until he dies.
Woooooooooooooowwwwww! Ok yes very clear! It’s crazy that they didn’t get money! And I love that her conviction and strength transcends all the way through her descendants/generations. That means Snow really got what he deserved. 😂
She didn’t get a proper reward but Casca Highbottom gave Lucy Gray money after she won, Snow finds this out and is confused. I think that’s where the reward thing started
See I thought they always had the reward, but that Lucy Gray didn't get it because she cheated (or rather Corio cheated for her). Maybe I'm misremembering? I only read the book through once.
Jessup gets bit by a bat on the train ride to the capital. Lucy said he was shielding her from the bats the entire way there. So he got rabies from the bat bite.
Info in case no one else said it yet: Katniss's hunger games were the 74th and 75th, so 64/65 years after this movie takes place. Also, re: is Katniss connected to Lucy Gray? It's not confirmed, but there are theories about this one. I can't remember all the details of the theory, but fans believe that Maude Ivory (the blonde girl who kicks off Lucy Gray's performance at the reaping) was eventually Katniss's grandmother (father's mother). This would explain the passing down of the hanging tree song, as well as the lullaby Katniss sings to Prim and Rue in the first movie. (Lucy Gray sings that one in the Songbirds and Snakes book, but I don't think they included it in the movie. What a shame!)

Hahaha! Thanks I try to pick up on those things even if it’s not necessarily a thing lol 😅

Oh ok that makes sense! Especially the morphling 🫢

That’s absolutely horrible and terrifying! Snow is truly a monster!!!!!!
in mockingjay part two when tigress opens the door she says “snow replaced me when i wasn’t pretty enough anymore”
There’s nothing in the source material that says snow made her get plastic surgery.
