Hey, I just wanted to say I went through a few different teachers on youtube and some were very arrogant and dismissive and excessively promoting thier website while the instruction was just not meaty enough. You really covered everything carefully and in detail and in a clear and slow way so that I could understand without putting the video on a slower speed. Thanks so much. I really appreciate it.

I play electric guitar around 80% of the time and Im used to playing fast licks etc. and never really focussed on acoustic strumming patterns so this was a step back to what I'm used to and I really enjoyed it! Thanks for your help you're a great teacher!

Love the lesson, thanks man! I went to start to put the lyrics to the strumming pattern and I'm not quite getting it. Can you post the first verse, using your strumming pattern, so I can get a feel for it? That would be a great help, thanks man!

Great video.. Im an intermidiate player been playing for about a year. love how in depth your lessons are, eagles songs are usually pretty simple in my opinion with just a few basic chords but I've never played the Gmaj7! Ive always knew how to play a G7 but that E string on the second fret is a stretch lol! Im gonna check out your other videos! Keep up the good work man!!!

Very good tutorial! I saw one guy showing this lesson but you did it much better and I knew there was more! Thank you David! Also, dud G To G7, I knew there was an easier way to do that! I like the D7 progression also. You covered it so well! Good show man. Barre chords aren't too tough, my hangup is rhythm! lol Thanks for the strumming pattern!

Hi Dave, Steve here in Sydney Australia i am just learning lyin eyes (things are going well i have been playing now for about 15 months practising about 2 hours every day 1 in the morning 1 at night ,,, very relaxing lol ) anyway i was wondering with the G7 chord does it really matter if i mute the d string i am a builder for 30 years my fingers have taken a beating i jkust cant avoid muting that string ... any ideas ? take care we are in severe lockdown here from a new virus outbreak Thanks mate

Sounds like you are making great progress on the guitar and rocking out with it every day - that is awesome! Yeah, by not playing the D string on that G7 chord you should be fine - that D note is the 5th of D and not the most critical note in that chord - the critical note in that chord is the F note or b7th - that is what makes it a dominant 7th chord - so u should be fine. Thanks for your lesson. On more song I can add to my repertoire. BTW. What kind of Taylor is it that you use. I like the sound and was thinking getting a second guitar for backup. So far I have a Taylor 314ce with a 1 7/8 nut.

+U WE I suggest playing as many guitars as you can get your hands on - try them all - its a very personal decision and they all have their individual tone. Find what sounds best to your ears and what feels best in your hands. Get a solid top and solid sides acoustic if that fits in your budget as they have superior tone to the laminated tops and sides. I personally like Taylors and I like the GS5 as its a big body guitar - little smaller than a jumbo - Im a big guy so that model fits me well. And I like the cedar top as that has a warmer tone than the spruce top - doesn't project as much as spruce, but I like the warmer tone. Martin also makes some amazing acoustics - personally I prefer the brighter sounds of Taylors over the darker Martins - but again, its all about what you like best. Seagull makes some quality acoustic and more budget friendly prices, and Laravee makes some really nice acoustics also - as does breedlove and many other companies. Thanks for your input. I went to a guitar store that had over 50 Taylors in stock. I was interested in the new 524ce and 526ce and they weren't too happy me trying out too many guitars. At the end I bought a Taylor 616ce from a different store. It felt the best and the sound is amazing, it blew me away. Now I have to wait because I special ordered it with a 1 7/8 nut.

I'm trying to fine tune this song with correct chords and I have a question - in the chorus you use a D chord but in the outro you use D7. Can you explain why?
I broke my string trying to tune the 2nd note lol
+Dan I guess the D7 leads you back to the G.
+Dan H 7th chords are usually transition chords.

So just to be clear that's the whole song right in that order?
Is one measure equal 4 strums ? Eg. 4 strokes.
Hi Larry and thank u for checking out this lesson - most appreciated. One measure of 4/4 time can be four strums like you said if you use quarter notes - quarter notes are one note per beat and counted 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 so you can use all down strokes and strum d - d - d - d and count 1-2-3-4 2-2-3-4 3-2-3-4 for each measure, etc. But if you use 8th notes for instance, which are two notes per beat and counted 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & then you can strum like this for straight 8ths - d/u/d/u/d/u/d/u - I go over these rhythm concepts and much more in my free video lesson on strumming and rhythm - grab that lesson as it will help clear things up for you - just click on this link here and then enter your email and I will email you the free video lesson and eBook - www.david-lessons.com/egi/beginner_strumming.html - And be sure to take a good look around the channel as we have tons of killer content and song lessons that we teach in the same format - lots of fun stuff.
